Summary: Archos 6000 - Good Product - Poor Tech Support
Review: I got an Archos 6000 in July 2001 - love the unit. However, it shipped with a bad battery or two and I ended up using the "extra" batteries within two weeks. The USB cable is a non-standard A-to-A cable so if you have a lap-top you'll end up carrying the *only* USB cable around with you - don't lose it, you can't replace it. After three nice queries to "tech support" on purchasing batteries(1500Ma 1.2v AA), an extra USB and an extra wall wart I've gotten no response. It is a real shame such a good product is hobbled with such poor support. A simple e-mail reply and I'd be a more satisfied customer instead of one who is beginning to feel he could have spent [PRICE] a little better on another MP3 product. Check out Creative Labs Nomad before you deal with Archos.

Summary: Best MP3 player around
Review: I've owned my "Jukey" for a bit over a year now. I did my research and compared all the MP3 players on the market back then. The Jukebox 6000 was AND still IS the winner! Matter of fact, I'm considering getting another one.I've not had any real problems with mine. Great sound. Awesome storage capacity. I even use it to store files that I use for work. I only give it 4 out of five stars for the following reasons: 1. Not exactly a rugged device - even though I would never drop test it to find out for certain. 2. The music control button (play, pause/stop, fwd, rev) does not give a solid response when pressed. It feels a bit mushy and sometimes you have to press slightly harder than normal to get the 'play' to make contact. 3. It sucks to see it for $219 now since I paid over $330 when I bought it :( Recommendations: I replaced the included rechargeable batteries with ones of higher capacity. Be careful when doing so, it is very easy to slip and scratch the face of the player. Update the driver by visiting WWW.ARCHOS.COM and dowloading the latest driver. It is very easy to update the driver once dowloaded - just follow the simply instructions.

Review: I just received my new Archos 6GB. It is awesome. I charged the batteries for a couple of hours. Transferred about 40 songs to it. Went out side. Put it in my pocket and cut the grass. It worked great. Did not skip one time. I did however download the firmware update before doing anything. This is a somewhat of a new product that needs constant updating. From the reviews I read some where not pleased with the Archos. I think they didn't take the time to update there player or at the time the updates where not available. I wouldn't say it is the easiest thing to use at first. It just takes some time and patients. I think it is great. Buy one...you will too.

Summary: Great product... bad support
Review: Ok, I think this thing is awsome! The only problem I have had is when I tried installing the driver software. Everything went fine when it said that it couldn't find the 'USBNTMAP.SYS'. I think this only happens with Windows ME. If you can't find 'USBNTMAP.SYS' in the in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\, then try C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS2\. Technical support didn't help me at all finding this location... they just told me to contact my computer manufacturer. The Product is awsome, but the tech support could use a little work!

Summary: Not perfect, but unbeatable (so far) at this price
Review: I have been using the Archos Jukebox for about two weeks now. The sound is great and the headsets are acceptable. The only problems I have noticed are very occasional "static" when playing a song (resolved by pausing and pressing "play" again), and the also very occasional gap during playback. Other than that, it works great and it's really unbeatable at that price. The documentation is totally worthless, so here are some tips: 1) update to the latest firmware ASAP, before you move any MP3s to the box. 2) Just in case, have a backup of your music. 3) Get a second set of NiMH batteries (there are larger capacity ones) and a suitable recharger. Amazon has both. There is a little pocket in the carrying pouch that is perfect for the extra set. 4) Read the release notes for the latest firmware. It explains some great new features to edit playlists on the box and to queue songs. 5) Undocumented feature: press and hold the "on" button during playback, use the +/- keys to increase/decrease volume without going to the menu. Press &hold On and then the Stop key: disables keys so they don't get pressed accidentally. 6) Don't bother with the MusicMatch software. I use CD-DA extractor to rip and Winamp to build lists. It works fine. I have seen no reason to install yet another software package on my PC. My wishlist for the next firmware: get rid of the gap and the static, and do seamless track-to-track transitions with no gaps (right now there is 1/8 second pause between tracks)

Summary: Review, and Hack
Review: Aaah, the French. So much expertise, so strangely applied. The Jukebox6K is a marvel marred by two bizarre, unnecessary, and serious flaws: volume is a pain-in-the-butt to adjust (indeed, cannot be done without looking, and takes at least 3 keypresses), and the battery replacement process seems to have been engineered by the same team that brought you the Maginot Line; it's a five-minute process during which you are *guaranteed* to crack the plastic retaining clips. Clearly, too much damned wine and brie at the CAD table. However, I also note that -- believe-it-or-not -- the internal hard drive can actually be replaced with a larger unit. Righto. I swapped out the original 6Gb drive for an 8Gb model, and am therefore relatively certain a 30Gb drive ... would also work. How about 500 hours of music...? Obviously, kiss your warrantee goodbye, but if you want lots of tunes-to-go, well, there's your ticket. Rock on.

Summary: What problem??
Review: I bought this product A little while ago, and I say it kicks ... ! I was a little nervous about getting mine after I read all the bad reviews about it, but I decided to give it a try. Ok, people complain about this thing freezing up and what not... just update your firmware and it fixes almost all those problems (ofcourse, there is always the chance you get a defective unit). People also complain about the tech support... I e-mailed them before I bought this to see how fast they would reply and if they'd help me at all. You know what... there is no problem in the tech support area. They said they have been working on their tech support since they got so many complaints... but now its fine. I have had no problems at all! THIS MP3 PLAYER ROCKS!!!

Summary: Great product, poor support
Review: This is in my opinion the best all-around MP3 player out there. I've had it for a month now and my only complaint is the support from Archos ... Their web site is confusing and don't even bother trying to call. Their technical support team is about as helpful as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. The product itself: 1. Can hold lots of MP3s (can be upgraded to 20GB if 6 GB isn't enough) 2. Small and lightweight - for a jukebox style player it's very small 3. Great sound - Just like other products, it sounds as good as the system you play it through. The headphones they give you are terrible, but good headphones or plugging it into your home stereo make it sound great. It sounds good enough for me to use as my wedding DJ. I set up 5 hours of songs, hit play, and danced the night away. It worked better than I had ever hoped 4. Excellent data transfer capabilities - This is what seperates it from other Jukeboxes. I transfer files, pictures, jokes, etc. from home to work to friend's homes. It's like having a scaled down portable computer to move files on. Overall, this is a fine product that I would recommend to anyone. Just pray you don't have to deal with Archos directly. Unless your cousin works there, it would surprise me if you found someone that has the smallest clue as to what they are talking about.

Summary: Could be a fantastic product
Review: I own two of these wonderful little toys. One for me, and one for my spouse. I use mine extensively at work to make the day go by, and love the portability, the huge amount of music it stores, and the very good sound quality (if you buy good headphones) However, my unit has only worked for two or three weeks at a time, and then locks up. Only solution I have found is to reformat the hard drive and start over. It is easy to do, but a pain to have to copy my 3 gigs of music back to the unit. I don't store 3 gigs of music on my little PC hard drive, so I have to re rip all the music off my CDs. A major, major pain. Archos seems to realize that this is a problem, as their new version of the BIOS says it is supposed to stop hard drive crashes from occuring. I hope that they are right or my favorite little toy is just about useless. In two months of ownership I have had to reformat the hard drive 4 times on my unit. My spouse's does not get used as much and has not crashed yet. If they work out the bugs, this is a wonderful product. Small, inexpensive, great sound, and easy to use.

Summary: Will it Record From External Sources like Walkman, TV, mic
Review: I am planing to buy a MP3 Recorder. My Purpose is not to listen to the 100's of songs. My Purpose is to record the Songs From Audio tapes to the JukeBox (By Taking the Walkman's Headphones Out and connecting to the line in of the Juke Box). Is it having the line-in facility so that i can record music from external sources like Walkman, TV, Musical Keyboards. Will it record with high quality when we use Line In ? All the walk mans will not have line out. Only will have sound out put. I want to connect sound output to the line-in. Will it record with high quality even the sound volume varies from the external sources. If this is going to be intelligent enough to record with high quality at all the input levels I Purchase this. But no review says about the external Recording. Please Prvide information on External Recording.(Analog(Walkman) to MP3 Digital(Juke Box)) Thanks.
