Summary: Every CD I Own Is at My Fingertips
Review: Much of the criticism is true: the documentation is disgraceful and the website is only marginally useful. That said, I have stored over 450 CD's on this thing. CD's that I haven't listened to in years are now at my fingertips. We plug this into a Nakamichi desktop stereo in our kitchen and enjoy different music every night. Sometimes it's 80's rock, sometimes it's piano or broadway, and somtimes it's Disney. No matter the mood, I now get much more out of my CD collection than I ever did with them sitting in a binder on the shelf. This thing is amazing. It works. The battery life is good. The display is fine but not great. The practicality is unbelievable.

Summary: All that memory
Review: This is simply the best MP3 player you could possibly buy. I trailed round many shops in many places to find the best model, and this was it. Surely thats saying something. i do recommend using better software than was supplied with the player as twice the quality is available with the free windows media player from the microsoft website (320 kbs instead of 160).

Summary: Good So far- Studio 20 gig
Review: I have used my player for three months and have had no problem
with it.
It takes a while to charge and it does get warm ... I let it just do it and it has suffered no damage. I haven't been changing battries, just topping off every day (don't believe that battery memory ... .. does not or ever did exist, except in very precicely timed discharge/charge cycles.)
I don't expect a hard disk spinning at 3000 rpm + with a read head riding just microns above it to be happy being jolted about by a runner or such.
I use a solid state (NO MOVING PARTS) rio mp3 for those activities. A 128 meg of storage works out just fine for that.
I have some concern about ARCHOS as a company mainly because I know nothing about them or if they will last. Having said that I have a ton of stuff no longer supported by well known companies still in business. My stuff may as well been made on mars for all the support i get.
I see a lot of ID ten tee complaints in these reviews.

Summary: Making up my mind
Review: I want to buy an external drive that will double as a music player that can connect to my stereo system and my car radio. Archos (Jukebox Studio 20) & Creative (Nomad Jukebox 20GB) seem to have the appropriate products but (and I hope Archos takes note) there is no way on Earth I will buy an Archos after reading the reviews. No support and so many failures. The Nomad gets better reviews BUT it is out of stock everywhere. The Creative site dead ends when I try to buy it direct. Any suggestions?

Summary: Nice gadget, while it is still working
Review: Finally a mp3 player to my liking. With 20gb hard disk I was able to store all my music and take it with me and enjoy my music all the time. However this lasted only for 3 or 4 months. After that time the machine stopped playing numbers. It would start a song and after 10 or 30 seconds it would just stop responding. Reformatted the hard drive, and put all my music back on the jukebox with the faint hope that this would solve the issue (mwuhaha). 5 hours later I still didnt have my music playing again. 3 weeks and 3 emails to archos later (still waiting for any reply) I ordered the creative jukebox. Hopefully that will continue to play....

Summary: This thing dose not work.
Review: Not long after I bought this product, it broke... The product is horrible for walking, or running. The hard drive became "bad" only three weeks after buying it, and I didn't do anything to cause it to malfunction. All in all I wouldn't buy this product again if I had to...

Review: This player is amazing, people like Daniel R. Einbund (in an earlier review) who say they are unhappy with the player because they dont like the headphones, should realize that they are buying and MP3 player, not headphones, of coarse the sound is going to be bad on factory headphones, thats not what they are selling. Dont go out and buy an amp for the headphones, just buy new ones. The Koss SportaPro are excellent quality headphones and are pretty cheap too! This MP3 player is amazing, 20GB capacity, really good sound quality (unless your using audiograbber to rip CD's!...go to http://encoding.n3.net for the highest quality MP3's possible), and those who say..."Without the amp, I wouldnt go for this unit as is." obviously dont understand they are buying an MP3 player...I think no audio player should ever come with headphones so that people will stop complaining about them and write stupid reviews.....ahem...Daniel R. Einbund.

Summary: This thing is way cool...
Review: This is my first MP3 player. I researched the hard drive players pretty thoroughly and had almost decided on the NOMAD or Roq-it. Then I got a chance to try out the Archos in person. It's surprising how small it is... a little bigger than a deck of cards... much smaller than the NOMAD or Roq-it (both of which I though were a little bulky after checking them out in person). I was a little skeptical of what the sound quality would be like on an MP3 player, especially since I'm a musician & music fanatic, as well as owning my own recording studio. But I purchased the Sony fontopia EX70LP earphones at the same time as the Archos 20 Gig. The sound is great. Surprisingly good low end, clear highs, and enough volume to permanently damage your hearing if your not careful. I'd like to check out the sound quality with a set of the Etymotic ER-4P earphones at some point (but they're rather expensive). I transferred much of my CD collection, all at 192 kbps, to the Archos. I have around 2000 songs on it and have only used up half the drive space! The only minor quibble is that the battery compartments are a little tough to deal with, especially the first time you attempt to figure out how to open them. It seems almost impossible to do the first time without causing a little cosmetic damage to the unit (or possibly a lot of cosmetic damage if your not careful). But once you figure it out, it's not that difficult. Get the Rayovac 1 hour charger for the NiMh batteries, and you can be good to go for around 8 to 10 hours on 1 set of batteries. Also, the Archos website seems to be pretty good about providing downloadable firmware updates when needed. I've had the Archos unit for a couple of months now, and so far have had no problems with it.If you're looking for an MP3 player, get the 20 Gig version of the Archos, the Sony fontopia phones, and carry around your entire CD collection in the palm of your hand, with some pretty decent sound to boot!

Summary: Be careful to buy a Archos who disregards a customer!
Review: I purchased a Jukebox Recorder 20 at the online shop of Archos Europe, but the product didn't work well. Problem is that batteries discharge spontaneously even though the switch is off.Therefore every time I turn on the switch, batterie level is empty state. The product seems to have an internal short-cicuit.
I had been complainting this problem to the Archos service center by e-mail several times, but they had been ignoring me. I had no reply from Archos at all. So I recomend the one, who is going to buy a product of Archos by online, not to choose a Archos. You better choose a Nomad or a Rio that has same 20GB hard disk MP3 player.

Summary: A Marvelous Device
Review: I've had the 20Gb version for a couple of weeks and I'm delighted. Every evening I transfer a few more CDs onto the Archos and then I have my entire collection available whereever I go. I use mine at work (though my PC speakers), in my car, at the gym and through my stereo.
The software installed out of the box for me. The ability to access the device as though it were just another hard-drive on the computer makes for great versatility. I use MusicMatch to rip the CDs directly to the Archos with no need for intermediate storage on the computer. Downloaded files can be copied very quickly. Rearranging the contents into folders and playlists is simple and can be done with any software you like.
