Rating: Summary: Good, roomy backup drives Review: I bought this drive and it has not failed on me so far (knock on wood). It is spacious, with 250 gigabytes of space.
I had a Maxtor drive which broken down one day.
I guess that a small percentage of all drives - regardless of manufacturer - have a high chance of failing.
So far mine has not been one of them.
I might just buy one more, so I have two copies of my data.
(The firewire adapter cable did not work on my PC-compatible (i.e. non-Mac / differently shaped) firewire port. I suppose the included firewire cable is only meant for Macs. The USB cable worked fine for me.)
Rating: Summary: Not a drive you can count on Review: I bought this drive, took it home and moved a bunch of my data on to it. Then about 20 minutes later while copying some additional data, I received an error saying that the move had failed. When I check the drive my entire partition had disappeared and the system was telling me that the drive was not even formatted.
To make a long story short, my data was gone, Western Digital support was no help and the drive has been returned to the store.
I would not recommend this hard drive. I have another Maxtor USB drive and it is working fine.
