Summary: Worked Flawlessly
Review: I am running XP Pro and the installation went smoothly without any problems. I dropped in "The Matrix" to test the DVD playing capabilities and I was pleasantly surpised. The movie ran as smooth as my standalone DVD player. I can now play a DVD using my computer without a decoder card.

Summary: The way it oughtta be!
Review: Plugged it in, screwed it down, and it worked perfectly. No hitches, problems, or aggravation. Great little unit that does everything but burn DVDs and works fast too (48x24x48). By the way, I looked around extensively and Amazaon has the best deal on this...

Summary: No support provided from Samsung
Review: The drive worked sporatically under WinMe (sometimes it read DVD's and sometime it just hangs). When I upgraded to XP it stopped reading DVDs and DVD-ROMs but it did stop hanging so the rebooting went away. Samsung does not support the drive and has removed any support information from thier web site regarding it. Even thier more current drives have very little support information. I would strongly recommend against purchasing any Samsung optical drive because of the lack of support.

Summary: Great drive, however...
Review: This drive turned out to be great, however i did have some installation problems. This is the first hardware I have ever installed and it probably would have gone flawlessly however, there was a conflict with some old software on my computer that caused the drive not to function properly. The samsung website was not very helpful and after some trial and error I found the software that it was conflicting with and deleted it. The drive has worked perfectly ever since. If you have upgraded to XP from an earlier version of the os you might encounter this same problem. Other that that I am very happy with the drive.

Summary: pretty good !!
Review: well the drive works fine, but you might face some problems installing it on windows ME (or 98 may be). its not because of the device drivers but because of ME itself... ME is a little buggy in this regard.. i had to upgrade on XP.. and on XP its like plug n play. the drive is pretty fast and burns a 80 min disc in 2 - 2.5 mins... i think it gives a satisfactory performance for the price u pay and its a good deal.
