Rating: Summary: CenDyne CDI CD00085 - Surprising Value Review: I picked this DVD-ROM drive up locally because it was marked down by more than 30%. This was lower than anything I've seen on-line. I was apprehensive - How could anything so inexpensive be any good? It turns out that this CenDyne CDI CD00085 DVD-ROM drive is solidly built, relatively quiet, works flawlessly and is worth more than I paid. (I have a HP CD-RW that seems pretty flimsy and cheap by comparison.) The software (WIN DVD) that came with the unit is pretty good too. The one hang up- the documentation is POOR at best. The quality of the graphics in the installation guide was so bad, I could barely make out any detail. The software came with NO documentation. In spite of this, the installation on my old Dimension XPST700r went pretty well with out any problems. (Fortunately, Dell has pretty good hardware and documentation.) I've also had the benefit of installing hardware before. I wouldn't recommend this "kit" as your first attempt to upgrade your hardware. It'll be pretty nerve wracking. But if you know what you're doing and you're looking for a decent DVD-ROM drive to upgrade that old computer, this is definitely worth the look.
