Summary: Wish I knew
Review: I give this 3 stars because I've had this unit for almost 2 weeks now and still don't know if I can make a movie on it that is readable on a regular DVD player. I made an entire movie using Intervideo only to learn that it doesn't support this or any other Alera units. (I always thought drivers prevented this?) Anyway, the only software that seems to work with it is Ulead, the software bundled with it and the version sent won't do much. (For example, play background music across videos and stills) So I tried to buy the Ulead upgrade only to find that their web site ordering system is pretty useless. After speaking with VISA I found out that my order had been approved only to be sent back by Ulead as rejected???? So I still don't know if I can make the movie I want to make. If I were to do it again, I'd by something compatible with Intervideo.

Review: It would be nice if the manufacturer reserved the reviews of their product for actual consumers. They should stick to using the "manufacturer's description" section, and stop giving their own product 5-star reviews.

Review: This DVD Quad Cruiser is the answer. Not only does it record to DVD-R and DVD-RW but also to DVD+R and DVD+RW. It supports all the popular DVD formats. The Alera DVD Quad Cruiser is an external drive which can easily be connected to any computer without the need for complex installations or opening the computer's housing. Like its predecessor, the drive is equiped with Alera's versatile A-Connect technology. This means that you can choose from a variety of connection options to fit your system's needs. The drive comes with a High Speed USB (USB 2.0) connection kit by default. Optionally, you may connect the PCMCIA, Firewire or Firewire for Macintosh (comes with Charismac Discribe software) cable kits. I'm very impressed to see that Alera - again - has put many efforts in offering a DVD Recorder drive/software combination that really stands-out of the crowd. When you buy this drive, you not only get top-notch technology (the fastest DVD recording solution around, packed in a slick-looking, easy to connect external casing), but also a perfectly integrated, best-of-class software suite.
