Summary: Very satisfactory hardware and software package
Review: I bought a CenDyne 16X10X40 CD-RW drive. The package I got was in "Accesstek"/"CD-Maker" combination. This dirve sometimes develops "drop out" for VCD copying at full speed, and OK with lower speed VCD copying. I consider "CD-Maker" (supporting software) a not acceptable product.

Therefore, I exchanged to pay more for the CenDyne 32X10X40. What I got is now in "Lit-On"/"Nero" package. There is no "Drop-out" for both CD and VCD copying. I burnt more than 60 CD's. No problem (A few non-perfect audio copying was due to "Audio read in" problem from my old CD-ROM. Problem went away when I used this CenDyne Drive to do the "Audio Read In".).

"Nero" is an excellent product (by "ahead software gmbh").

I would advice to pay attention to both "Hardware" and "Software" in buying CD-RW Drive.

I am totally satisfied with this CenDyne 32X10X40 product package.

Summary: CenDyne (Lite-On) 32x12x40
Review: I bought this product around Easter and love it. It is so fast!
Installation is a breeze and if you've ever worked with Nero, you know it's a great software product for burning or copying CD's. This CD-RW also works great with WinXP's built in software for copying files to CDRW discs. I've use 2X CDRWs and 10X CDRWs and WinXP recognizes the different speeds and writes VERY fast to the 10X (I have yet to find 12X CDRW at my local stores). I also have used 32X CD-Rs and they work great (and fast) too. This is a great product for the money.

Summary: Poor Tech Support
Review: I purchased a drive from Cendyne in March. It quit on me in July. I have yet to be able to obtain technical support or replacement. You sit on hold for 10 to 20 minutes, then their voicemail asks you to leave a message. When they do call back it is usually the next day when you're not there. They don't respond very well to their internal user support system, either. I don't recommend anyone purchase a drive from Cendyne.
By the way, their CD-RW is very fussy about what disks it will use, and none of the name brands is on their acceptable list.

Summary: Not what you expected!
Review: The speed is ok, it dosen't really burn all 74 mins in 2.5 mins. That was one disapointment. Then to find out that the CD Burning softwear does not allowed you to have the title of the song and the artist on the CD. After that i tried playing it on my CD player it does not work, it says "Please Incert CD" then i tries it on my friend CD player and it works. I don't seem to like it since it's limited to what i can do, or want to do.

Review: This Cd-rw is a 5 star product because of its great performance. Writing at speeds of 32x is unbelivevable. I can burn cds anytime without the rush. Haven't had any trouble with it since I got it...Buy it now!

Summary: Good value for the money
Review: This is a very good CD-RW drive for the price. I installed mine as a slave on the secondary IDE channel where my old Pioneer DVD-ROM drive remains the master. The motherboard failed to automatically enable DMA on the new drive, so burning the first CD using PIO for data transfer I got to verify that the buffer underrun prevention does indeed work as advertised.

After manually setting the DMA mode to 2 (the highest the drive can handle) burning has been nice and smooth. I can even use the DVD-ROM drive without significant slowdown while burning a CD, even though the two are on the same channel.

Unfortunately, the drive seems rather sensitive when it comes to reading poor-quality media. It drops down to 10x or below on some pressed CD-ROMs as well as some CD-Rs it has just written, even though my DVD-ROM drive is able to breeze through the same media at full speed. On a fresh, clean, good quality pressed CD the drive does manage an average read speed of 38x and a peak of 49x. The digital audio extraction rate off a good clean CD is also excellent: 20X for the first track and 48X for the last track on a 70-minute CD. That'll make MP3 ripping a CPU-bound task on just about any current CPU, and the audio data is glitch free.

The included software (Nero Burning Rom and InCD) is suitable for most CD burning and packet writing needs, although I miss the on-the-fly CD-R writing capability that Adaptec's DirectCD provides. Benchmarking software, a CD cover designer, and a simple audio editor are also included. Be sure to download free updates from Ahead's website.

The bottom line: I wouldn't recommend this as the sole CD drive for your system, as it won't read DVDs and seems to have speed issues reading some poor-quality media. If, however, you're looking for a drive to burn lots of CDs, this is a good choice: fast, reliable, and excellent value for your money.
