Summary: It works good for me.
Review: I see a few complaints about the sony drive but i don't have any problems with my drive.As a used computer rebuilder/seller i understand the complications of some software. I make data and music cd's with no proplem at all. If a computer is too darn slow then i can see why it might lock up or it is not compatible with other software on the system. Or if one doesn't have good understand of software that may cause conflicts or not fully understanding the whole IDE/SCSI thing may have problems setting up not only drives but any other hardware and
software.

Summary: Exellent drive with EVEN better SOFTWARE
Review: I think this drive is really good. I have burnt about 100 cdr's and have not had a single coaster because of buffer underrun. Anyway the most harsh criticism against Sony CDRW's is that the software is bad. I would like to rephrase it as " The online help of the software is TERRIBLE" it seems sony(actually it is made by PRASSI) prepared it's help in a lot of hurry !!! Anyway sony does provide an exhaustive online manual on the web which is EXCELLENT. Once you get used to this software you simply can't use anything else !!! It is that Simple !!! The Anti-wizard strategy of Sony really works. I have used Nero 5 as well as WinOnCD 3.6 but nothing even comes near Sony CDXtreme software. You can actually burn a cd in just 2 CLICKS. Also it supports upto 220 LENGTH FILENAMES and 110 JOLIET FILENAME LENGTH which no other software supports (all others support only 64). I think this is one of the best features of this SOFTWARE + it can also burn 700MB cd's which adaptec easy cd creator can't. So i highly recommend this drive and especially the software (though it may take a little time to get used to if you are new to CDRW's). P.S. Though i must mention one flip side of this software is that it not as feature rich as Nero or WinonCD....but trust me u won't need those extra features ever!!!

Review: if you are in the market for a burner faster than 4x. save up more money and buy another unit. buy something with some form of burn-proof technology. This burner is 8x max, but i've never successfually make any cd at that speed... the buffer craps out i.e. buffer underrun. i would look into Lite-On or Plextor.

Summary: Great product at a Great price
Review: No complaints at all. Can't ask for anything better. I would have burnt around 15 CDs so far and havent had a problem at all. The software CD Extreme is so easy to use. Dont know why ppl make a big deal out of the CD Extreme software. If you dont know how to use it, download the manual from SONY's website. Overall, I am very very happy with the hardware and the software. Bottom line - If you know how to use the software, u can burn CDs with just 2-3 clicks.

Summary: Worth to buy!!
Review: Sony CDRW only takes 5 mins to burn a CDR and 10 mins to finish up the CDRW burning. You can test before burning in order to make sure that you won't waste your CDR disc. You also do not need drivers for Win 98, ME, and 2000 because Microsoft has already included the drivers. Large CDR buffers make the CD burning more stabilize. There is a headphone jack in the front faceplate that you can plug-in your headphone and listen your CD. So convenience!

Summary: Not WINDOWS Me compatible
Review: This item is Not repeat NOT WINDOWS Me compatible. Even though on the box it came in it says FOR WINDOWS 95/98/Me/2000 NT 4.0 it's not Me frendly user. Calling SONY Tech support will conferm this. I even had to take a digital picuure of the box with my SONY camera and send it to Tech support because one of their technicians called me every thing but a liar.

Summary: Good CD Burner for the price.
Review: This product does a good job copying both music and data CD's. If you have a text enabled music CD player, you can even add the song titles. Installation is easy, took me about 20 minutes. The only downside is the software that comes with the CD burner. It works well, but there is no paper documentation and the on-line documentation is not very good. You will have to figure out how to use the software by trial and error.
