Summary: Great, have never had problem with it.
Review: I bought this CD-RW for my son. I spent hours trying to get the software to work, but it ALWAYS locked up the computer when trying to do a disk copy. I configured it several different ways; as master on the secondary EIDE buss with a CDROM as slave, as slave with the CDROM as master, as the only device on the EIDE secondary buss, and as a slave on the master EIDE buss. Even if the software hadn't locked up the computer it wouldn't allow you to mix songs from different CD's unless they were in MP3 or WAV format. I finally installed a copy of Adaptec's E-Z CD Creator software from my system, but it wouldn't recognize the Sony drive. A quick visit to Adaptec's web site for a free download fixed that problem. The SOFTWARE is the key to CD burning, and Sony's CD Extreme is the worst software I have ever seen for this purpose. I read a magazine review that loved this software, the only reason I could imagine for liking the Sony CD Extreme software is if you were burning CD's with a cigarette lighter before. Don't, repeat DON'T buy a CD-RW unless it comes with Adaptec's E-Z CD Creator software, or you have a copy you're sure will work with the CD-RW you're buying. I've had great success burning CD's with my 8x4x32 Phillips CD-RW that came bundled with Adaptec's E-Z CD Creator software, and it was $10.00 less than the Sony. After this experience I will never buy another Sony computer product. By-the-way, contrary to another review, the Adaptec software does support 74 or 80 minute CD recording.

Summary: Mixed up
Review: I don't actually have this player, but I think "An Electronics Fan in LA" doesn't either. Doesn't it actually READ 32x, WRITE 8x, and ReWrite 4x?

Summary: Its OK....
Review: I had this cd-rom driver for 4 months now and it has been working fine. This device has not cause any problem it has been working the same ever since i bought it. The only problem is that it takes 10 min to burn a full CD but for some people that is ok. If you are looking for a normal speed cd-rw burner and dont always burn cds this would be a good one.

Summary: Total Blessing
Review: I have had my Sony Spressa CD-RW for about 6 months now, and it is one of the best investments I have ever made. I build computers, but this is one of the easiest installs I have ever experienced. You are literally up and running 10 minutes after you rip open the box! (depending on the make of your computer of course.) It runs quietly, and is accompanied by a very user-friendly software package for all your cd burning needs. I have had absolutely no errors, and all my CDs end up with a professional-like result. I wish that I had the chance to purchase it at the price it is at now, but I feel it was worth every penny! I love this drive so much, I pushed my brother and co-worker to buy one as well, and I installed it for them, (in minutes!) and they love theirs as well. Especially at the price it is being offered at now, I emplore you to buy this drive if you are in the market for one. It is worth it, and I am confident that you won't regret it. I have owned Adaptec and HP CD-RW drives that can't touch this one in reliability and quality! YOU WILL LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!

Summary: Win 2000 = problems with this thing
Review: I have spent the night trying to get this thing to do a disk copy at first I thought I could do a disk copy with only one cd drive....copy to hd disk then to blank...Then I tried to find a way to create an image with which I could then create a copy from no luck...I finally ripped out another CD drive from another machine. Plugged it in put cd's in each drive to check they both worked no problem...run cd extreme, select each drive crash...and hard, everytime I try it kills win 2000. Tried downloading all the latest software from the web site no luck...Software has its quirks to...The drive was cheap but now I gotta buy adaptec so I can do CD copy

Review: I have this CDR-W and I have burned hundreds of CD's with it and I have never had a single problem with it. Yes, the software isn't that good compared to Easy CD Creator, but I've noticed that Easy CD creator has problems with my OS, which is Windows 2000. The first time I installed Win2k on my system I used Easy CD and got the patch from their site so this CDR-W could work with win2k and Easy CD. I would soon discover that it would hang every time I tried to reboot or shut it down. I had to reinstall Win 2k to fix the problem. Soon I discovered the Easy CD Creator has problems from time to time with Win 2k and that it causes it to hang. So the second time around I didn't install it and the computer hasn't had a single issue yet. So software does matter when purchasing CDR-W drives. If you get this drive the software may not be as user friendly as Eazy CD, but it sure won't hang your system.

Summary: Excellent CD-R for the money.!
Review: I just purchased this Sony CD-R for my Dell system. Easy Installation, Fast and easy to use for burning. I have copied and burned many MP3's, music CD's and software with no problems. Software is stripped down, but does the job. I'm not sure how much more software you would need to burn CD's. Just a note..... 95% of the problems are caused from the person behind the keyboard.
