Summary: Great item!
Review: Although the sound is a little bit loud, the CD-RW burns CD really fast. The software is quite easy to use too.

Summary: Thank you to all reviewer!!
Review: I have to say I was agreeing with the bad reviews of this product initially. I was getting really ticked off while installing this baby in a new 1ghz AMD tbird, 256 meg SDRAM, and 30gb 5400 RPM. I was making a lot of coasters when I first put it in. Then I went back to the reviews and saw that thing about check boxing the DMA for CDRW's hardware setting and confirmed it in the little instruction book that came with it. I did that and I was still getting coasters. Now I was getting frustrated. I looked at the hardware requirements for the drive and noticed that my hard drive maybe too slow for the drive. Now my head exploded. I have to buy a new hard drive! Then I decided to read all of the reviews and read the review that the DMA for the hard drive needed to be checked too. This was a new computer so I was kinda excited about it and did not optimize the settings. NOW the drive works great not one coaster in 20 burns. Tech support probably could have figured this out for me, but I think I am like most people and I hate calling and waiting for support. I have the Plextor 16X CDRW EIDE too in another computer. It was much easier to install. Never had to change any settings (I probably should have though). The Plextor can really take up resources though. I would like to thanks all the reviewers for their help. They probably saved 30 minutes of my life. Anyways, this is a good drive and after rebate close to $100 cheaper than the plextor. Just make sure your DMA box is checked for both your hard drive and yamaha drive.

Summary: Yamaha and Amazon beat Sony and Dell
Review: Having just purchased a Sony CD-RW from DELL (CRX140), I had become totally frustrated with Dell...and (later discovered) poor installation documentation in the bundle. The Yamaha is fast, well documented and supported in the bundle, and you do not have to deal with DELL... The noise complaints on this Yamaha are unwarranted. It is not excessively noisy. And what a value with the rebate! I recommend this unit unreservedly at this price level.

Summary: I haven't had any problems with this burner...
Review: I purchased this burner to replace my old external Yamaha SCSI. The reason I chose this drive was the price (including rebate - I spent $... for this drive) and I didn't have any bad experiences with my old 4x write SCSI Yamaha drive.

Surprisingly, i didn't have a hard time installing this unit into my PC (PIII 500, 192mb with Windows 2000). It took me around 10 minutes. Prior to installing this burner, I already had three IDE devices connected to this computer (2 hard drives and a dvd/cdrom drive). I connected this drive to my secondary master. (don't forget about the jumper on the burner!). I turned on my computer and all four devices were recognized with no problems.

I have burned about 15 CD's so far with this drive, ALL at 16x. Believe it or not, I haven't received any buffer underuns or errors. I haven't started a 'coaster' collection with this drive (yet). I am using Memorex 80min CDR's. I have created audio CD's, data cd's, and several CD to CD copies.

All the reviewers of this burner are correct when saying it is loud. Nevertheless, the noise doesn't bother me at all. (My DVD/CDROM drive is just as loud).

I am happy with Yamaha and I will probably stick with them for my CD Burning needs.

Take advantage of the $50.00 rebate before it expires!

Summary: Stable and Fast drive
Review: We've been using two of these drives here at RTKL Digital Solutions for about 6 months ..., with nothing but GREAT results. We have never had a bad write yet, and we write a whole lot of CD-R's. When I saw ... unbeatable price, I jumped on it to replace my ageing 4x Yamaha drive at home. Great drive at the BEST price I've found. I have to say, "buy it!"

Summary: Yamaha burner a piece of ...
Review: I bought one and then returned it 2 days later. I am very experienced burning CDs - I have 3 burners (2 EIDE and 1 SCSI) and have and use both Nero and Adaptec software. I was unable to make a copy, or create a music CD compilation from .wav files. I tried everything. A dozen coasters later I returned it. Get a drive with Burn Proof. My 12x Lite-on CD-R with Burn Proof is blazingly fast and very reliable. I own other Yamaha equip. and like it but was very disappointed with their CD-R.

Summary: It doesn't work
Review: You may have better luck than I did, but I tried for several days and I couldn't get it to work. Tech support was prompt and very nice, but they couldn't get it to work either. I have twin 733 P3 Coppermines, 2 ata 100 channels, a 7200 rpm hard drive with a seek time well within their parameters, and 512 mb of ram so I wouldn't expect that the problem would be on my end. The Roxio website states that there are "known issues" with this drive. Good Luck. Sometimes things are [inexpensive] for a reason.
