Summary: Dell Laptop User with Windows 2000
Review: Ok. I read all these reviews twice and I still took the risk of getting a refurbished unit because it was cheap and I thought after all this time iomega might have learned from their past mistakes... well, I went through everything detailed here with regards to phone support and software problems.

The unit per se is fine and does not overheat.

Installation was faultless but the software didn't communicate with the thing even though it found it. Techies @ iomega told me:

1. I can't help you if you are not the w2k admin (they helped me anyway)

2. Dockingstation is not supported! (I got it working regardless, see below)

3. The media is not supported! (the cd-r you sent me? you are kidding right??)

4. Update the software (did it nothing happened)

I was wasting my time with this guys so I decided to uninstall the sw (not the drivers) and use the unit with nero... voila! flawless performance! With w2k, with docking station, with same cd-r.

Hope this helps you.

Summary: I hink the Iomega Predator 4x4x6 Sucks
Review: Last year I bought from dabs.com the said ext CDRW, initially I've had no probs & thought it great.Once one learns to burn music at the slowest speed.
Now though I'm going through backup of backups of CDR discs as well the drive's conflicting with the PC ie causing it to freeze.
Iomega support are no help, to them their drives are perfect, it's the PC's fault.
I think not.
The moral is DON'T BUY IOMEGA....

Summary: Stay away from Iomega
Review: Firstly, a pain to install. I thought maybe my fault and let go. Then some CDs burn fine, some CDs end up in trash. On calling their support, they said to shut down everything else(luckily I was allowed to breathe) while the burning is happening. That did not help and I had to buy certain CDs from certain manufacturers. But no, that does not help buffer overrun issues. Still I could backup the lovely photos of my first baby sometimes. And then one fine day the damn thing stopped working. Support said buy another device. And here I am shopping again.

Summary: Glad I bought it!
Review: I was hesitant to buy this burner after some of the horror-story reviews I read at this site and others. But now I'm really glad I did. I had it out of the box and burning disks in less than ten minutes. I've used it with an iBook running OS 9.1 and burning with iTunes, and I've used it with a G3 266DT (upgraded with a USB PCI card) running OS 8.6 and burning with Toast. Not one error message, not one bad disk. It's not a speed demon (80-minute CD in 20 minutes), but for the price and solid performance I really couldn't care less. So if you have a Mac and you're considering buying this burner, take all the negative reviews with a grain of salt. I'm sure glad I did!

Summary: Awesome!
Review: This burner rocks. Very simple to set up and use, works perfectly with my Macintosh. I had the whole thing installed and was burning my first cd within 30 minutes. Yes, you will receive buffer underruns if you try to burn an audio cd at 4x - but I challenge you to find a USB burner where you don't - it's the nature of USB.

The USB interface is modular, so if you upgrade to a new computer with Firewire, or the forthcoming USB 2.0, simply buy a new module and the burner is ready to go with the new interface.

I highly recommend this burner, set-up was a snap, the included Toast software is very intuitive - and it looks FIERCE sitting on the desktop.

Summary: Iomega 31119 Predator External USB CD-RW Drive
Review: Very compact and fast CD Drive. The only setback that I have noticed is at times the computer needs to be re-started in order to retrieve the CD from the drive. It doesn't happen often. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants a reasonably priced, compact, easy to use, fast CD Drive performer!

Summary: It might work for a while but I'd watch out with Iomega
Review: Ok, I don't have this exact model. But I had a discontinued Iomega 4x4x6 external CD-RW and it broke after about six months and was generally not good quality. I do give it 2 stars because it was decent when it was working and did set up okay. Problems seem really common with Iomega; I would not buy another Iomega item unless there was a very compelling reason. I had an internal Iomega Zip drive and that broke too. Iomega has real quality control problems and appears to be willing to release products before they are proven to be reliable. Because of Iomega's particularly bad record with external CD-RW's, I would be HIGHLY hesitant to get this specific device.

Summary: Excellent with one problem
Review: This burner works very well. I have been using it for over a year. It burns perfect. I have never had any problems with it as far as burning, and data transfer. The one problem is every once in a while the eject button with not work. All you have to do is restart your computer, and it will work great.

Summary: Stay away from Iomega...
Review: I've owned 4 of these predator drives. They are poor quality. I've had nothing but problems with them. Replaced 3 times by Iomega under warranty, and the 3rd replacement (4th drive total) broke. I finally wrote off my losses and bought a Creative SB1394, and it's a flawless piece of equipment.
