Summary: Very good drive for the price
Review: Just installed this drive this afternoon. Install went perfect with no problems whatsoever. I am running Windows XP Professional and the OS detected the drive immediatly upon rebooting. So far after burning three CD's I can say I am very impressed. I went from a Iomega 4x external USB drive to this 24x and it is a night and day difference. This drive works very well so far with Adaptec CD Creator Platinum 5 with the required updates for Windows XP.

The only minor problem I had was the CD tray would not open after burning an ISO file. I think what may have caused it was when the burning was complete the CD started to spin and the OS menu from the CD I just burned came onscreen along with the XP dialog box asking what I wanted to do with the CD reference open it in Media Player, etc. Nothing major though. I rebooted the PC and it was fine. I burned two other CD's after that and everything went perfect.

I don't really see why all the mixed reviews. It seems apparent from most of the negetive reviews that the people installing the drive was inexperienced and didn't know exactly what they were doing. I agree that the documentation that comes with the drive isn't to well written for beginners but an IDE device is an IDE device. They all install the same except for their positon of master or slave on primary or secondary IDE controller.

If you are looking for a fast, quality cheap drive then this would be a good choice. I believe the drive is made by mitsumi since that is the name on the back of the drive and Mitsumi has a drive identical to this one on their website.

Hope this helps.

Summary: No support if something goes wrong
Review: The installation guidelines were very poorly written and I had to purchase a longer internal IDE connection to connect to the motherboard. Even though I have a good knowledge of computers I found the installation to be quite difficult. Since then, I have been able to copy disks but not get the CDRW function to work (the drive/software will not format the CDRW disks).
The drive contains no phone numbers (not even one for paid support) or email address for any hardware support (and after much websearching I have not found any offered by the manufacturer... The bundled NERO software offers basic online support, but this has not resolved the problem (there are also no software manuals at all). Hence, after two days of searching for help, I still do not know if this problem is a hardware or software error. So, based on my experience I think that you will be better off spending more on a player from a reputable manufacturer that offers tech support.

Summary: A great no-coaster drive
Review: This drive has been very solid. I have never made a coaster in hundreds of burns. The only bad thing about this drive is a really high noise level while spinning. Other than that, this drive has been 100%!

Summary: Total[ly bad]
Review: This drive is total junk. I got it, and then put it into my computer. I had to re-install windows 2000 to get it to work. Then It was not compatible with Easy CD creator..and then to top it off, when I actualy went to burn cds, it burned the cd, but the CD did not work in any cd drive...not even the burner. I would suggest that you look somewhere else for a CD burner.

Summary: AWESOME DRIVE AND CHEAP PRICE TOO!
Review: This drive was absolutely fantasic. I installed it in under 4 minutes and it was all ready to go. All I had to do was download the CD Creator 5 updated to 5.01b and now it works with CD Creator! IT IS FAST AND THE PRICE MAKES IT EVEN BETTER! If you want a quality drive for a cheap price, go for this drive. Even comes with NERO for free if you want to use it.

Summary: Very good - includes CD Text
Review: This is very good drive in vanilla packaging. Some people had trouble installing it, so here is the simple method: If you are connecting it as the only drive on your IDE cable, set the jumper on the back to "Master", if there is another drive on the same cable, set it to "Slave". After the system boots up, I recommend to upgrade firmware. This drive is actually manufactured by Aopen. Go to their web site and download the firmware upgrade. The next time your system boots, it will recognize it as Aopen drive. Then install Nero software that is on CD and also any available upgrade on Nero web site. IMPORTANT: This drive *does* support CD Text and it is very simple to use this feature in Nero. Otherwise, it is quiet and fast, has "burn proof" technology called "Justlink". It means that you can do other things on your PC while burning CD without worry that process fails. If it comes with better support and packaging, it would be 5-star. Also, rebate form had to be sent to Canada...

Summary: Don't buy this
Review: This manufacturer cares nothing about support or a quality product - only your money. I received the 24x10x40x for Christmas. It is 3 full days now that their support number has been constantly busy and E-mails are ignored. The "installation manual" seems to be written for Electrical Engineers and is in poor english as well. Expect to spend half a day just putting it in your computer, and an unknown number of days trying to get it to work. "Masters", "Slaves", and "Jumpers" are words I don't like anyway but you'll see them in the manual. At one point my computer wouldn't even boot! I would have taken it back already but don't feel like spending another half day just to remove it. Maybe that's what they want?

Summary: Great Drive ----> Aopen CDRW 2440 oem
Review: When I first got this drive, I just feel that is really similar with my Aopen 20X CDRW, And then I go to Aopen homepage, and found that the item # is almost identical with this Drive. So, I download a Aopen 2440 Firmware and update that Drive, Now it can show up Aopen 2440 Drive successfully (even updated to ver.2.0 firmware) and working with all the software: CloneCD, Nero, Adaptec, everything, and the Qualiry is excellent. This Drive actually is same as the Aopen's Manufactory.
