Summary: Fine Product, but not portable like Imiations new product
Review: I agree with the other reviewers who aplauded this product. But there is a Rip-go player from Imation that will do the same things at a slower speed, 4X4X6. It plugs into your PC's USB, burn, and off you go, taking this small unit with you. With the TDK you have to have a seperate player to take to work or play. The Imation Rip-Go is portable, looking like an MP3 player.

Summary: Fine Product, but not portable like Imiations new product
Review: This product is good for burning music CDs or burning MP3s onto CD-R/CD-RW. And it's relatively fast. With its 20X digital audio extraction speed, you can rip a 3-minute CD track in 10 seconds flat. Plus, there is a buffer that allows the user to run other applications while burning the CD. The drive itself is an internal and therefore, needs to be installed using an IDE cable that is connected to the motherboard. The installation process could've been difficult but TDK does provide a good flowchart on how to properly install the drive. Some PC installation expertise would be a benefit. The minimum requirements for the drive are a 200 MHz Pentium processor running a Windows operating system (95/98/2000/me) with 64 MB RAM.

But enough with the technical stuff, the drive and some of the software works very well. The installation was rather quick. The first CD I burned (a 70-minute CD) took me about 6 minutes. The recording software (TDK MixMaster) has an elementary interface and is not confusing. The directions provided for this application fully support the multiple functions that can be used.

However, there are a few drawbacks. One is that TDK has come out with a faster drive (12x/10x/32x) that burns a CD-R/CD-RW a whole lot quicker. That drive is on the market now and is a little more expensive that this drive. Another problem is that the additional software that is provided does not come with any manuals and is somewhat limited (most notably with the CD cover/jacket writer). This omission of application specs was frustrating when trying to determine what was needed and what could be left out. The CD cover editor is practically worthless, as it does not allow the user to enter any text at all. Packaging software just for show is quite unnecessary.

Overall, if you do not care about writing speeds and money may be a problem, this is a good burner. But you may want to consider the faster drive. The time you save may allow you to do other stuff.
