Rating: Summary: Very easy to install and use Review: A very good basic CD-RW drive that was terribly easy to install. Included software allows easy file transfer to CD-R or CD-RW. Backup is a snap when using CD-RW as a drive. Good documentation included with unit and good online help from Iomega. Only complaint is that the Quicksync automatic backup runs too often, but you CAN continue working while it performs the backup, so it's not a real problem on any newer (PII or PIII) computer.
Rating: Summary: Works Like a Dream Review: I have an HP CD burner and I got this to do CDRW disks because I heard that they are reusable after you no longer need the data on them. To my surprise, I initially had a problem with the drive but after a phone call to Iomega and a couple simple setting changes, the drive has exceeded my expectations. My used CDRW's erase fine in minutes and allow me to reuse them. The packet writing feature with the application Direct CD that came with the drive allows flawless packet writing that I was never able to achieve with my HP 6020. I have both CD's on my network but hardly use my HP any more. Thanks for a good product.
Rating: Summary: Crap Review: The software is terrible, and the hardware is not good either.Hardware: -- two other run-of-the-mill 50x cd drives I've installed on the same computer play music CDs just fine; ZipCD erratically suddenly stops playing and jumps to the beginning track. Software: -- You use it to make a CD mountable, so it appears like a hard drive; takes over an hour, but it says you'll only have to do it once. Then you follow the instructions to do a quick format just to clean off the stuff you've accumulated. Surprise! The quick format has to be followed by another 1 hour format. Un-f**g-believable. -- Comes with this nifty program that will periodically synchronize designated files/folders on your hard drive with a writable cd: dynamic backup, as it were. Problem: no matter what you set the synchronization interval to, even at 1 hour, it kicks in every few minutes -- and you can't do anything on your computer while it synchronizes. I've got a 333MHz with 128M Ram, so my hardware is fine. This product is crap, stay away from it: buy one of the top-rated CD-RW drives instead. I sure wish I had, instead of going for the brand name. I'm back to backing up with my Zip drive again; this thing is useless for backups.
Rating: Summary: Nice CD burner Review: This product is 100% improvement over my old unit, which was a HP 7200E.I use this item with Adaptec Easy CD Deluxe 4.0.I have found that the software bundled with an item is not always the best,so to achieve better results, consider upgrading the software. This item works well when copying audio CD's and also works well when making data CD's,although recording at a lower speed yields better results.(There is less margin for error with data than there is with audio.)My last unit(HP 7200E)was totally unreliable burning data CD's,while this unit has performed with greatly appreciated reliability. If you have ever spent considerable time and effort amassing data and program files, only to find that they are not there when you want them because your CD-R drive burns coasters, you know what I mean.
