Rating: Summary: Very Adequate burner but bundled software sucks Review: After many hours of help from the HP support people, I finally was able to get the burner up and running. The HP people were very helpful and they couldn't say their burning software was bad, but if you read between the lines, they as much as said to dump the "Veritas My CD" software that comes with it. I agree. I got buffer underruns whenever I tried to burn an audio or data cd. I bought Click 'n burn pro and have been burning without a problem ever since. Instead of cutting corners, HP should bundle software worthy of their fine products. Other than that, it is a great burner.
Rating: Summary: Drive went bad one month after waranty expired, seldom used. Review: Bought this product. Had problems with compatible media. At first, HP support said I had to buy HP media (how convenient, and expensive). I finally found a media that worked (Dysan, if you have ever heard of them). The drive just went out on me. I have the original 50cd spindle of media here. I have burned less than 50 cd's in the drive. I wasted 4 hours trying to figure it out. It spins fine, it opens/closes fine, but windows just says 'insert disk'. I contacted HP support, after wasting my time with newbie tasks, they had me unplug the ide cable...1. Turn off the computer. 2. Open the case and disconnect the data cable from the back of the HP CD-Writer Plus drive. 3. Power on the computer. 4. Insert one of the discs that you have been unable to read. * If the media indicator light flashes and then is on solid, there appears to be an issue with the data cable, IDE Controller, drivers, or Windows configuration. * If the media indicator light flashes and then goes out, please get back to me with the results. The light stayed off... so the drive is bad. Too bad for me, out of waranty. I am suspicious, I but it is 'timed' to go bad. This will be my last HP product, since I am also having HP scanner problems, not having Windows XP support. OH, and you cannot get Win 2000 server drivers for this burner either. I am going to buy the Sony 48/12/40. Hey Compaq, ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: Ehh Review: For some reason this burner takes about seven minutes when writing off the hard drive, and 20 minutes when copying from the CDROM drive. I have new Pentium 4 with a 50X cdrom drive, so I can't figure out why it is so slow. Tried 4 different software programs (the bundled burning software from HP is terrible by the way), different IDE chain combinations, and even different OSs to try to speed it up, but with no luck. Hmm. On the plus side though, its had a lot of use (about three hundred discs) with no problems or coaster-producing tendencies.

Rating: Summary: new user Review: This like all of hp's products is very solid, stable and quick to boot ..burned a lot of cd's with this product and all i can say is that hp's has done a wonderful job.had it installed in no time at all and it works wonderfully under windows 98,me and 2000. Had the unenviable task of installing with for 3 os's in a matter of weeks and the cdrw was te one thing that worked consistently. Definitely worth the price. GO get it

Rating: Summary: Hewlett Packard CD-Writer 9340i 10 X 4 X 32 IDE Internal Review: When My Dad got his second CD-Burner (this One) I thought it was going to be better than the previous HP Burner we had. When my dad got his pentium two upgraded, he got this burner installed. This writer is good for eveything, burning audio CD's, Data Cd's, and everything but Direct CD. I put a disk on Direct CD format the day I got the burner. It worked fine and everything, but when I took my disc out and closed the door, and then reopened it and put another Direct CD in it, the drive would hum and hum but not read the disc. After rebooting my computer and then inserting the disc when is started up, it read the disc. And thats the only way it worked, if you need to change Direct CD's dont' close the door, leave it open. Trust me about this, I know because several times my computer would lock up because I downloaded the songs to a Direct CD. If you are willing to spend a little bit More money, get a HP CD Writer from 9500 series, or a TDK CD-Burner (24x Audio rip!). I got one when I got my Dell, and it works beautifly. If you want to go ahead and get this drive, you'll get a lot of hassle from the Direct CD system up the road.
