Summary: Another winner from HP
Review: I've always been partial to HP products (except for their consumer PCs) and this drive just confirms my opinion of them. Easy to install, with very clear directions, and a good software package. Specific directions are provided for installing alongside an existing cd-rom drive, which I did. It was up and running in no time, and with none of the horror stories I hear from friends who have purchased cheaper brands. I've been using it for several months now with no problems. Copying cd's is a breeze, backing up data files is no problem. There may be some people out there who need more sophisticated software, but must should do just fine with what is provided.

Review: It is an excellent product, easy to install, really powerful, the only minus is the burner software, if you have or you can purchase Nero or CDRWin then you can obtain the maximum performance from this unit.

Summary: Don't buy it, unless you can return it easily
Review: sorry, but this drive just didn't work for me. I blame the software. I burned one cd successfully, but no more. I upgraded the software (which was easy with my internet connection) but then it would blue screen whenever I tried to burn a cd.I returned mine and bought an Acer USB 4x4x6... The Acer I bought came with the latest version of Adaptec software and works like a champ. I've also heard that the Yamaha's are the best.. but I really wanted USB and got a great deal on the Acer one... I had an older 2x HP and it stopped working too, which prompted this purchase in the first place.. seems HP hardware is outsourced now... Remember, whenever you buy something like this, esp with moving parts, make sure you can return it before you give your CC #.

Summary: Good burner, terrible software
Review: The burner installed easily and works just fine - just not with the misearable MYCd software that came with it. All I got with that were buffer underruns and blue screens. The brains at HP suggested disabling all of my virtual device drivers, something that makes Windows very angry. I bought Click'n Burn, which works perfectly. With that I've never had a failed burn. It just seems that when you buy a CD writer, the first thing you do shouldn't have to be shop for new software.

Summary: Excellent drive for the price
Review: The software bundle is poor, that's right, but also that's the reason why this drive has a low price. Also I bought EZCD Creator 5 and I had some problems with this drive (usually I got the "Buffer Underrun" error), but then I replaced the software with version 4.03 and now I burn my CDs without any problem and the whole process takes about 7 minutes. Then I think those compatibility issues concern to software, not to drive itself. Conclusion: If you already have a good software and you wanna upgrade your slow drive, then this is the best choice for price and quality.

Summary: HP BURNER -- JUST PERFECT
Review: This burner is amazing! It came with pretty good instructions and had great software. It could have used a little bit more instructions on using the software, but still great! It burns as fast as 12x on regular cd-r's which is awesome! But you must have a Cd-r of all speeds or up to 12x speed or else you can only burn on 8x! But anyways! I give this thing 5 stars because it performs to my needs and is fast!
