Summary: A first class winner
Review: Compatibility

The 9150i is compatible with Windows 2000, 95, 98, and NT, which is great. A lot of my colleagues who own lower spec HP writers can only burn CDs when using Windows 95 or 98 which is a pain.

What's inside the box?

The 9150i comes bundled with the Adaptec Suite which contains all the features that come with most off-the-shelf writing software. For all you lovers of good things, I confidently suggest acquiring a copy of Nero Burning ROM. I have never produced a 'bad' CD when using Nero. Adaptec users cannot swear by their software, well at least they posses fancy beer mats

To summarise

The construction is neat sturdy and rigid. If you're like me and like your equipment to 'look' good, then the 9150i is a trendsetter. 1 Year returns guarantee and clear instructions on how to install and set up for all non-technical persons.

The speed of the device is impressive, I can burn approximately 600MBs of data writing at 12X within 7 minutes, my showers take longer.

Bottom line:- a good-looking winner.

Summary: Great piece of user friendly hardware!!!!!!!
Review: Easy to install, easy to use with the software included. I am a beginner when it comes to computer's and the operation of same. I usually have to call on my computer guru to help (actually do any installations etc.) But with the HP 9510i, I was able to complete the task alone. The software is great because it is easy to follow and easy to understand, not to mention the fact that it prompts you as to which type of CD you need for the application you are performing. I give this piece of equipment 5 Stars and a well done to HP...

Summary: Without good software, what good is it
Review: I bought the drive and it had nice install instructions (though installing is not rocket science).

I downloaded a couple of ISO images to burn, and spent the next 2 hours makeing coasters as I tried to get them to burn. Finally, out of frustration I emailed HP support staff. They responded within 10 MINUTES. - unbelieveable

The response was "I understand you are inquiring about how to burn ISO images with your 9510i drive. The software that came with your drive was designed for the basic home user and does not have advanced options such as the ones you have stated. However there is third party software available for purchase/download that does have this functionality. " (for those looking into your first burner, let me assure you that burning an ISO image is NOT advanced)

Now, to purchase Nero or CD Creator would put my total purchase price above the Plextor/TDK/Yamaha models.

Another review indicates that this drive is packaged with the Adaptec suite, it is not. The only Adaptec/Roxio product is Direct CD.

Needless to say, this unit is going back tommorow. Bottom line - The software was made for technically unsophisticated users who only want to copy music CD's or archive files. If you don't fall into this catagory, buy another product!

Summary: SOLID
Review: I bought this about 7 months ago and never had a problem with it. It take 7 minutes to burn an 80 minute cd. The program reminds you to close any other open programs before burning a disc, very easy to use. I brun cd's every single day. It is my baby!!!

Summary: Software Issues
Review: I bought this cd-rw because it was less than $100 and I was hoping to be able to plug it in and start burning cds with no problems. It installed very easily, but the software wouldn't even work on my computer, which I found strange becuase my computer is HP all the way. The box says that it is Windows ME compatible, but whenever I even tried to install the software on the disks, I got a big blue DOS error screen. Now my problem is finding software that will work without having to pay a lot for it. If you are interested in this cd drive, I recommend buying software for it right away.

Summary: Flawless
Review: I have used the 9510i for about 2 years and have found it to be flawless in performance. The Disaster Recovery software provided with this drive is it's biggest star. You can format your hard drive, put in the restore disk that you create for your system, and in about 15 minutes your system is put back to EXACTLY the way it was when you created the disk. Or you can simply replace selected files if you want. It does not miss a single thing. Fanstastic. The software is extremely user friendly and guides you through the process easier than an "ABC" book. I would highly recommend this drive for performance and ease of use.

Summary: Good CD-Writer Software is ok
Review: I owned a 2X & 4X HP CD Writer and had nothing but problems with them, the power on each of them would fry after about 6 months of use. I went through about 3 each in the two years or so that I owned them.

With that aside I am a bit leary of HP CD Writer products. This 12X drive at least looks nice. I have owned it for little over a month now and it hasnt given me any problems as of yet, but only time will tell.

The Drive is easy to install, the instructions are easy to follow, and the software is easy to use. The only problems that I do have are not with the drive, but with the Software. The software is almost too easy to use. Basically, if you like functionality and options you may want to consider buying a different software package. I ran into problems with the software in getting it to burn faster than 2X in certain scenarios. Also, at times the program would only allow copying to an image file, than copying to the blank disc, which doubles recording time. I ended up installing DiskJuggler 3, which allows for advanced mastering options. I wouldnt recommend Adaptec with this drive, but NTI CD Maker Pro is a safe bet. Also, make sure you have a top of the line system, especially a fast harddrive. I am limited to 6X write speeds or else I run into buffer under-run errors. I'd recommend a SCSI harddrive or a Ultra DMA IDE drive for use with this CD-RW.

All in all this seems like a better product than what HP released a few years ago. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars based on issues with the software. However, you can always buy additional software packages. With that in mind the drive has been running perfect.

Summary: Reevaluation after longer use
Review: I wrote a good review of this product after I received it. However, I now can not copy another disk. I get error messages, when I try. This has been tried on several computers. I bought another of the same model and it seems fine so far. Due to my keeping on trying, I passed the return date, and lost my money. HP support is not at all good to me in my dealings.
