Summary: Very cool product and a hidden surprise!
Review: I bought this drive here at amazon a couple of weeks ago and since the day i got it i've been happy! It writes great and has good speed. Audio and data ar secured on my CD's and i can free space on my PC. I can trade information with all of my friends, listen to recorded music and backup everything i have! Plus a hidden bonus that they don't mention here was that i got a CD-R and CD-RW disc in it hehehe, i know it's not much but you can burn something right out of the box and use the CD-Rw or CD-R disc included for lot's of stuff! Great price and durability make it a great buy. Only downside i got was with the software, sometimes in the middle of the burn it would spit the CD out and mess it up, it's no big deal since i think i should have put less speed when i was writing it. If you're short on cash (and who isn't hehe) go for this baby, you won't be dissapointed and a new world will open up to you when you have a CD-RW drive :-)!

Summary: Arrived broken with documentation errors
Review: I cannot rave about this product enough. I had an older model CDRW drive, and it drove me crazy because it couldn't handle big WAV files--I got maybe 3 good CDs out of the stupid thing. This drive is great! The 4 MB buffer is great, and it takes less than 10 minutes to make a 74 minutes music CD. The software, CD Creator, is also great--it's painless, intuitive, and easy. I use this software and drive to put all of my vinyl LPs on CD, and it works like a charm.

Summary: Arrived broken with documentation errors
Review: I never had a chance to get it working since the power and EIDE connections were loose. Adding to my frustration was the inclusion of instructions that showed opposing jumper pin configurations.

Perhaps I'll revisit this review when I actually receive one that works (and hopefully with accurate instructions.)

Summary: Excellent product that works well with Linux
Review: I recently received this CD burner as a gift and I've been very happy with it so far. I've had no trouble with any burns I've made and the drive is _very_ fast and consistent both for burning and reading. Best of all (for me), it works very well under Linux (in fact, I haven't even used the software that came with it). I'm doubly happy with Ricoh because they also support the development of Linux drivers for their products. This is a fast, solid, reliable product.

Summary: This baby's on fire!
Review: Ricoh's newest addition to the MediaMaster family is atop-of-the-line performer, exhibiting excellent read, write, andrewrite speeds. In CNET Labs' tests, the MP7080 was the speed demon of a group of 5. With an amazing average throughput score, the MP7080 more than doubled the speed of the nearest competitor, the Acer CRW8432A. Its read and write scores were equally impressive, securing the MediaMaster a place as one of the fastest drives on the market. The Ricoh's 4MB buffer size helps prevent underrun errors, which can interrupt or even abort the recording process. And with a price tag of only ( ), this Ricoh is a bargain! The MP7080 makes no excuses. Ricoh promises a fast and affordable CD-RW, and it delivers. The MP7080 is a great performer, like the MP9060 and the MP7040 before it. Ricoh skimped a little on the included software, but the sizzling speed far outweighs that shortcoming. This is a no-frills drive that will blow through almost any task you throw at it. END

Summary: I will reject cheap media... in all it's forms.
Review: This drive works really well under the right conditions. It doesn't have anything near Plextor's "burn-proof" technology, though. A buffer underrun will yield you a coaster (although it's internal buffer is pretty impressive, it still goes down in flames if your system has too many programs open).

The other thing is that this drive tends to vibrate more than a Shiatsu massage chair if you try to use cheap CD-Rs. I almost returned the thing because I though something was wrong internally... until I switched media brands! It will burn ultra-cheap discs at about 4X, if you buy a half-way decent brand, it will burn flawlessly at 8X...

This isn't a bad drive, but next time... I'm going Plextor.
