Summary: Never ever will I buy a plextor product again!
Review: I was impressed at firstt with its attractive price and the positive reviews that I had read online. First off, this drive is LOUD. Secondly, it broke just as its 1 year warranty expired. A service rep told me as it was outside the warranty period, they would charge me [a] flat rate + [extra] S&H to have it fixed. Thats it, I have nothing more to say, next time I will stick with a name brand like Yamaha or Sony.

Review: This Burner ROCKS! Previous purchased the Yamaha2100ez lightspeed and quickly had to return it. I should have taken heed to others comments on that drive.This drive has gotten amazing reviews everywhere, and it fails too disappoint. With BurnProof I am burning while surfing the web, printing and downloading all at once. This is a great, fast, drive.

Review: This cd-rw is absolutly the best! Plaextor makes the ultimate cd burners. This drive is plently fast enough. The instalation instructions are very robust and simple to understand with pictures and detalied information. The burner has burn-proof technology that prevents all of those coasters that you get with other burners. Makes a great add-on to your computer and with a 40x read speed makes a great replacement to that slow cd-rom that may be in your pc now! 10x re-write is great and hard to find that kind of speed on a lot of cd burners. It is quick and very quite if you are burning cds or when you are just using it as a cd-rom it doesn't sound like a jet taking off like many cd-roms that run at this speed Never gave me any prolems and it at a great price! If you want a cd-burner, or just another cd-rom, Plextor is the way to go!

Review: This dirve is one of the best drives out there, it can burn every format of cd's imaginable (CD, audio CD, vcd, ....etc) FAST >>>>>>> A full 700mb in under 6 minutes! This drive can rip audios at an average of 32x (40+x peak), It can read sub channel datas, write in raw mode, cd text, ...etc Highly recommended!!!! ...

Summary: No more skeet shooting targets!
Review: This item is so good, that I'm reviewing it twice. (The first time I submitted it, it timed out, and when I hit back page, my review was gone.) I think that says a lot about how much I like it. I bought this drive a couple of months before I bought my new computer, and since it's been installed, I've gone through nearly 100 CD-R discs, and not one of them have been duds. From the music cds for my sister, to the back ups of important files, to simply using it for my own music cds, the drive has been everything I hoped for. Unbelievably fast burn times, all the while knowing that no matter what I do, it will finish the burn without failing. I've opened 1/2 GB compressed files, and converted them to different files while burning discs without the worry of the burn going bad. Buy it now, and pat yourself on the back for doing so later...

Summary: Bad, get a YAMAHA 16/10/40
Review: This product is not exactly how it is advertised. I've purchased this cd writer during January 2001. I did not want to write any type of review on it till I made the necessary tests. Honestly, you can burn data in about 7.5 minutes or less. I use the Fuji 16X compatible cd's and about 1/3 didn't work. Audio CD's are ripped extremely slow, so you need to download their software online. So far when backing up any data files including mp3 files, you can do it within the 7.5 minutes. The drive isn't perfect because of the framware problems. The 4 megabyte buffer was not so great in minimizing or eliminating most cases of buffer underruns. I had many buffer underruns. I have made over 200 cd's with 80 cd becoming coasters. The coaster was done by burning MP3 into audio format at 16X. It works fine at 4X but fails at 8x. I tested it at 12X and it wasn't successful so I did not attempt to burn the cd. Wave files into audio files was not succesful even at 12-16X. The other coaster was created when I tried to do a cd to cd copy. It failed at 16X,12x and 8x. 4X works fine. This probably happen because my cdrom drive reading speed is 40x or 48x. I don't know exactly why, but it does work but at lower speed for this type of burning. You'll probably be better off with a Yamaha 16/10/40 drive if you intend to do cd to cd copying as it isn't as CPU intensive, otherwise you can save some money and get this one... Installation was very hard. I would suggest you also download the latest firmware if your drive doesn't have it already. I have a Pentium 3/850 with 512meg ram. I have owned and tried a few other cd writers and by far this is the worst and slowest one I've seen to date. (HP, Ricoh, Plextor (without the burn proof ones), etc.) I have to give it 1 stars because of the long time it takes me in burning CD's and with lots of coasters created.

Summary: Plextor 16X write... THE WAY TO GO!
Review: This writer is the best one I have purchased so far. The Burn-Proof virtually stops ALL buffer under-runs. I have yet to make a coaster (bad cd) with the burner!! MAJOR KUDOS TO PLEXTOR! Can't wait for the 24X burner to come out!!!! ...
