Summary: You get what you pay for
Review: Great product. Although this drive does not like Ultra-DMA, it does write and re-write with excellent quality. A must have.

Summary: HP Quality Wins Again
Review: I have not had a problem with this drive since I took it out of the box. Previously, I had bought another company's cheaper drive. After ten days of frustration, I exchanged it for the HP 8100. From opening the box to installation and use, this drive lives up to HP's reputation for quality. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Solid and dependable, as expected
Review: There used to be an old saying that "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM." I've been applying this philosophy to HP peripherals for the last five or so years, and I've yet to be sorry for spending the extra dollars for a dependable, high-quality product.

The 8200i is exactly that. Nothing really super-fancy or sexy; everything just works, exactly as advertised. The drive runs smooth and solid in all modes -- no vibration, imbalance or undue noise. The bundled software and documentation are both first-rate, easy to understand and use.

Recording on both CD-R and CD-RW media, I found the stated speed (4X) was achieved on each. Both audio and digital material was recorded on various media without incident using the bundled software.

One nice bonus was discovering that CD digital audio extraction (needed for efficient creation of MP3 files) is very fast -- at least 4X to 6X, according to my timing, as compared to barely 1X on my cheapo generic CD-ROM drive. Creating MP3 tracks from CDs is a snap now.

I highly recommend this product.

Summary: Great product with one downfall
Review: This is a VERY good product and works well, however watchout because if you hook it up to the same ide cable that contains another cd-rom it may give you problems and refuse to write or read data. That is what mine did. Despite the trouble it was still worth the investment though.

Summary: Good writer, but...
Review: This is a very good writer, fast and efficient. I believe it iswell worth the money. There is only one draw-back though, the Adapteccdr software absolutely s**ks. It takes off a second from the beginning and end of every song when recording audio. That means a second generation cdr looses 4 seconds per track. You can record disc-at-once, no gaps, but it still removes part of the song. It also doesn't have the option to record the 80min/700M cdr's. I am currently looking into new software, but it's one helluva writer.

Summary: Fantastic CDRw drive!
Review: What a great drive! I still can't believe how fast I can create my own music CD's. Right out of the box it performed without any glitches. I have read alot of opinions/comments from alot of people, so I knew that HP was the way to go. Don't waste time with so called bargain drives. Get this one it's the best!
