Rating: Summary: Invest in better software! Review: CD burner works fine, and ease of installation makes it worth 4 stars ... but HotBurn software is terrible ... I'm looking for compatible software that will work better with the drive.
Rating: Summary: Invest in better software! Review: I agree with the other negative reviews concerning Mac's and this CD burner. I burned 'part' of a successful CD with HotBurn, but still encountered many problems. HotBurn seemed so limited, I decided to invest in Toast software. Gee, whaddya know...Toast does not support this Iomega drive. So now I have spent [the money]. Roxio (Toast) support told me that Iomega USB 2 will not work with Toast. Iomega says that it will, but will just burn at slower speeds using a USB 1.1 NOT SO!!! Have no complaints against Iomega in general...just their claims..leading to uninformed purchasing. Now I have to either keep Toast or keep Iomega with Hotburn. Crummy decision to have to make. Either way, it's cost me extra money.

Rating: Summary: Stingy consumer delighted *not* to be disappointed. Review: I am always sticking it to myself by going cheap. This time, I'm ok! My imation 4x4x6 external USB CD-RW died (after more than two years of faithful service, long out of warranty) and I spent a chunk of time shopping for an external USB DVD-RW, but they are still too expensive for a cheap guy like me. Plus, I want standards and security to settle a little more. (Another six to twelve months ought to do it for both categories, right?)To fill the gap, in which I still need to back up my data and burn audio for the car, I bought a refurbished Iomega 48x24x48 External USB 2.0 CD-RW through Amazon, and I'm happy to say that it came right away quick and I installed it and ran it without any hitch. And that almost never happens. (For comparison, I am running WinME on a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop.) The included HotBurn Pro (ver 2.2.1) software doesn't seem to me so far to be as sophisticated as Adaptec's Easy CD Creator (v4) or Nero (v5), two other burning managers I've used, but it does its job and is easy and obvious to use. Love the modularity and portability (even though it's not compact at 6 1/2" wide, 2 1/4" tall, and 9 1/4" front-to-back), and it seems solidly built. Long may it burn.
Rating: Summary: Mac compatible? Yeah, right! Review: I bought this Iomega CD-RW drive last week because I was still using MAc OS 8.6 (the OS my iMac came with), and the Iomega web site states very clearly that this particular CD-R drive is supported Mac OS 8.6. So... Upon installing the included Hotburn software, and making all the proper connections, etc., I found that this drive was not working. After three or four technical support sessions with Iomega, it was concluded that 8.6 was not a supported system for this drive. So... I figured I'd keep the drive and simply upgrade to Mac OS 9 - since THIS was an operating system supported by this drive. Well, I just upgraded to OS 9.0.4 today, and figured all would be right in the world. WRONG! After all my contortions and added expense, CD's loaded into this drive will not load onto my desktop - that is, this drive still will not get recognized on my system. I'm not sure what the problem is... is it the Hotburn software? Is this particular drive a dud? I don't know, and I don't care anymore. I am off to the store tomorrow to get my money back and to find a good CD-R drive that will work on a Mac without any hassles.
Rating: Summary: Great Product for my Laptop Review: I have never written a review before, but this product deserves it. I bought this product a few months ago. Is excellent it burns cds in 3 min. I do not care about the software because who uses that software anyways!!! No problem with any software. Excellent buy no regrets I love it.
Rating: Summary: It says Mac compatible, but is it? Review: The short answer - if you have a Mac, don't buy it. I bought mine and sent in the rebate - which required the UPC seal. I found out later that I couldn't take it back to trade on a different machine. The problem is that the "Hotburn" software will not accept long file names as are common in Mac files. I found this out after an extensive session with Iomega technical staff. If you have all short file names apparently it will work. It will copy CD's without difficulty.
Rating: Summary: Works great so far... Review: Works great so far... plug and play using Win XP and USB 1.1. I've burned a few data discs and several music CDs with no complications and no "coasters". Construction is better than usual Iomega (zip drives have always been a little on the junky side). Hot burn software is a little sparse-- which is why it gets 4 stars instead of 5-- but still usable until I invest in more extensive software. Overall-- a keeper, highly recommended for Win XP.
Rating: Summary: Very very pleased... Review: Works great. Plug and play using WinXP and USB 1.1. I've burned a few data discs and a few music CDs with no coasters. The Construction is better than most Iomega drives. Hot Burn software is a joke - which is why it gets 4 stars instead of 5- I invested in Nero 5.5 which is much much better. I highly recommended it for WinXP users.
