Summary: outstanding product for Macs
Review: i have 2 Imacs and 1 iBook. all operating systems are
9.0 to 9.1. All are usb 1.1. It took about 5 minutes to load the software and i was doing back-ups in 6 minutes. tremendously easy to use. as reviewed elsewhere, it's true that on the mac it doesn't do RW and it only tells you this in the install manual but at the price of CDs, I soon realized that i didn't care. after reading all of the negative reviews of iomega products, i can only think that those users are mired in the mess of PC world and are blaming the iomega for the [things] that microsoft has foisted on them. great product!!!

Review: I hooked up the drive to my lap top and it installed but my usb controller would not read it. I tried every single thing I even tried hooking it up to my freinds computer and the same thing occured I contacted iomega support and their information that they told me did not work. I thought this drive was plug and play but in fact its plug and struggle. I gave it 2 stars because it looks nice.

Summary: Hears My Thoughts
Review: I installed this device on my system after installing the software and had no problems since. This burner works great which is all I care about. I checked out thier website for support after I found out my burner didn't come with Iomega Quick Sync Software as Amazon[.com] advertised. As soon as I told the Iomega support representative via internet they quickly responded giving me a link to download the software and the registration code to get it free. The burner is great and support is too. That is all I can ask of a product and its company.

Review: I read the existing reviews before I made my purchase and I must tell you I was almost intimidated into not buying this device. I followed the advise of the person who suggest not using the enclosed software so I downloaded an evaluation copy of Nero 5.5. The device installation instructions say to load the software first before cabling up the device. Not being one to follow instructions I did the opposite. I found out why the instructions said to load the software first. Windows detects the new hardware and looks for the driver which it cannot find. I even tried searching the CD disk for the driver but it must be compressed and I could not load it that way. So I disconnected the device and then loaded the included software and then cabled up the drive. Next I uninstalled the software that came with the device and downloaded an evaluation copy of Nero 5.5.... I had to locate the Nero executable file and drag it to my desktop to create a shortcut. I had no trouble in burning data CDs (have not tried music yet). I do have one bothersome message that pops up everytime I double click on the Nero Icon on my desktop but I have emailed the Nero folks and hope to have that cleared up before too long. As far as the device itself, I saw nothing flimsy about its construction nor any connector problems that someone else found. Sometimes when things don't go right we tend to lose objectivity; so take what is said in the negative reviews with a grain of salt.
One week later. I did not get a response from Nero yet which is a bad sign. But I did find the reason for the message box that I was getting from their help file--a driver was not bundled with the download. I found the driver on their web site, downloaded it and put it in the right Windows (W98) folder and the message went away. I've burned both data and music format discs with the Nero software and have had no problems.

Summary: Glad I bought it
Review: I recently purchased the cd-rw drive and couldn't be happier with it. I had no trouble installing it, after reading the directions. I have not created a music CD, but for backing up files their software couldn't have been easier. I was impressed with the speed, since my main concern with an external drive was that it would be terribly slow.
No, it doesn't simply plug 'n play, which would make switching between usb devices simpler, but otherwise I have no complaints.

Summary: bad piece of hardware
Review: I thought this was going to be a good product but it does nothing but eat cds and spit them out. I had the product for a year and only made 1 cd of proably about 25 before I gave up. It would never work with my new thinkpad and xp and technical support was horrible. Tech support kept telling me to turn off things in the background that typically are running in any windows operating system etc. I got an old fart who kept explaining to me that he had been ding this for 30 years instead of getting the product to work. I sent product back and got rembursed. I won't buy any of this company's products again because this was such a headache.

Summary: STAY AWAY FROM THIS HEADACHE
Review: I was so excited when I bought this product but the excitement sure didn't last long. The drive worked a total of one time! After that I was on the phone with Iomega customer support for five days in a row. Although they were friendly, they were of absolutely no help and they told me my Windows 98 laptop was the reason the drive didn't work. After trying the drive on another laptop, it was clear that the drive itself was the problem. Save your money and stay away from this product. It is nothing but a headache!

Summary: LOVE IT LOVE IT
Review: It's perfect for my needs from laptop to desktop it's just a USB port away. It doesn't PLUG AND PLAY that well. You have to reboot if you do that so the computer can read it most of the time but for the most part it's a trooper. Saved the hassled (for me anyways) of installing an internal one. The speed is not a problem. I've even burned a CD in 4 minutes. I hear that's good for an external burner. Regardless if it is or not, for a 'want it now' kinda computer person, I'm pleased (smile)
