Summary: A Great CD-RW!!!!
Review: I just recieved my new Cd-RW today, and it was easily installed in 20 minutes with clear and precise instructions. Then I burned mp3's to two CD-R media discs and they were perfect!! It may take 30 minutes or more, but people forget that the size of the files may be large so it takes a lot longer to burn. Overall, I am so pleased that I finally got a CD-RW drive and it works great!!!!! Highly Recommend It.

Summary: Really Easy to Install and Get Running
Review: I opened the box, followed the instructions, got it installed, and then backed up over 300 meg in My Documents and over 400 meg in my Outlook.PST. No gliches. Everything worked fine the first try. I love it. It is sooooo... much easier to get files backed up this way -- rather than using the 100 meg Zip disks. Only drawbacks are it's big, ugly, and slow (compared to the internal drives) -- but it is easy to install. And I needed something simple and reliable.

Summary: Touchy & tempermental
Review: I have yet to be able to span several CD's to backup my drive, which was the reason for buying it. After the second CD I get an error where the software says it can't find the next CD, when I put it in, it blows out the program completely...coasters everywhere and time down the tubes. I even bought QuickSync 3.0. That is no big help.

Makes exact copies fine. Copies data files fine.

Setup an HP 8220 or 8230, that one didn't work until I downloaded upgraded software. Then it seemed fine. Haven't tried a multi-CD backup with it.

HP 9500 internal is the best I've worked with so far. Runs pretty fast and does pop up errors often. Haven't tried a multi-CD backup with it.

Summary: VERY IMPORTANT, Please read, TELL YOU HOW IT WORKS
Review: First of all i want to tell everybody who bought this CD-rw drive that this is a really good Cd-rw Drive. don't worry if yours are not working right now, i can help you with it, cause I know what is going on with this. this is my story. I deceided to buy a cd-bunertoday, cause I know is very usefull.... I bought this one, and than I bought a 50 packs of TDK 1x-16x Blank Cd-R Cds and Imation 4x-16x Cd-Rw CDs. I came back home but none of those CDs works, I wasted 50 Blank CDS and my CD-rw Drive didn't even read the Imation blank CD-r CDs. Than I figured because of the Blank Cds, cause on the Box, it said PLEASE USE 1x-4x BLANK CDS, than I think becasue of the CD I BOUHGHT,also my friends told me that VERBATIM are very good Blank CDS,so I bought 30 packs of that, than I went to home tired, it works, perfectly, it works, it works, and till today, I made about 40 copies, it works on every singer Cds, and all kinds of CDs, DATA cd, audio CD... I feel so good about this, and is pretty fast, I have a lap top comptuer with 64 Mb mem, and make a 700 mb cd only take me about 15 mins. My friend, this is a very good CD-RW drive, I love it, please use VERBATIM 1x-16X blank CDS only....

Summary: My First Amazon Return
Review: I bought this thing because speed was not an issue and it is featured in the Apple Store as an appropriate device for use with Macs. I needed it for file backups and to create the occasional compilation CD. The thing did not work. It also had the following annoying traits: 1) The installation CD automatically starts up and may crash your system after you re-start the machine because the device crashed the system (not mission-critical - - but it felt like salt in the wounds); 2) the CD-eject button on the device may or may not work - - it's unpredictable; 3) attaching the USB plug - anywhere - usually rendered all other USB devices inoperable (including keyboard and mouse); 4) if you DO "successfully" create a CD, inserting it in your internal CD-drive may crash your system; 5) 6 of the 7 CD's I allowed it to "burn" were throwaways.

I was surprised ..., since my Zip 100 drive has always been reliable and easy-to-use. The problems listed above were on a 333mhz iMac using System 8.6 - -hardly the hottest machine around, but a fairly robust computer.

Iomega should be ashamed to market this....

Summary: An extremely disgruntled Macintosh user
Review: If you are a Mac user and considerring the purchase of this product, save yourself the trouble and DON'T. I am a web / graphic designer and had a project that involved my needing to burn an interactive Flash project to CD. I didn't want to spend a tremendous amount of money on a CD burner, so purchased this one with intentions of burning my project to CD, and then using the burner to create personalized audio CDs out of my growing mp3 collection. It wasn't that easy...

Upon first installing the burner, I found I was required to upgrade my entire operating system to 9.1 in order to run the burner... no big deal, I needed to do that anyway. So I did. After that I installed the burner and proceeded to burn my CD projects as needed. However once I began trying to burn my AIFF / WAV files to make audio CDs... all hell broke loose.

The first three CDs burned fine. From that point I have ruined 11 CDs. I have been on the phone with IOMega tech support as many times. I have done everything they say from reinstalling the burner and software to upgrading the Toast software from "4.1" to "4.1.2" to "5.0 Titanium" to "5.1 Titanium". I even received tech support as ... as "I should try a different brand of rewritable CDs". I keep having the same problems along with new ones that continue to pop up. Today I finally gave up and am returning the burner under warranty first thing in the morning. I'm going to get a FireWire drive this time.

There is no reason that anyone should buy a product this expensive and have to do so much extra in order to make it operate properly. To make my long story short, DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!! (atleast if you are a Mac user like me...)

Summary: Very Good Product and Easy to Install
Review: I found the CDRW drive very easy to install and use. I had no problems getting it to work and was actually surprised at how fast I was able to create a CD full of photos. I just ordered a second one for my Dad.

Summary: Time to go to bed . . .
Review: I still have a CD stuck in the thing, but I have to get some sleep. This thing has disabled my computer five times in the last two hours. Which is to say, each time I have tried to use it. I have no idea if this product works for some people, but for this computer savvy boy it is one amazing headache. The fact that Iomega includes a postcard exhorting you to not return the product to the store without first consulting Iomega "customer support" is a very, very good indication that they have very little faith in the likelihood of this product working. Maybe tomorrow I can get that CD out . . .

Summary: be careful, know your computer before you buy this hardware!
Review: I did purchase this rewritable, and have now gone through 2 one sent by Iomega. I have been given 2 new pieces of software and nothing will make it work. Yes it is a good price, but if you have a Gateway computer with an Open Host Controller it will NOT work. I didn't even know what this was until I purchased this rewritable and went through at least 48 hours of excrutiating conversations of how to get it to work. I finally had to ask for a refund 2 months later after being told by Iomega that I was an idiot for buying something that wasn't compatable with an Open Host Controller. This hardware will only work with a Universal Host Controller. And make sure that you have the correct version of Windows to work with it. My experience has cost me time and money and truthfully technical support from Iomega was embarassing and demeaning. In this ever growing world of computers and accessories most companies forget that the general public doesn't have all the information that they think we have when we go out to buy their product. A little courtesy and understanding can go a long way in situations like this. Iomega has neither. Go to Hewlett Packard.

Summary: Pretty good
Review: A little slow, but worth it with all the good software including Easy CD Creator and MusicMatch Jukebox. Great for making audio cds of many varieties. Just buy this one if you haven't a load of money and you need a good one.
