Summary: Works fine, but a little too big
Review: The device does what it is supposed to do, but the size should be smaller to make it easy to take on trips. I had some (easily solvable, but still..) problems with the USB connection of another device when I installed the CD-RW on my laptop.

Summary: It actually works well
Review: Iomega products aren't known for their reliability, so I was skeptical, but I decided to buy one because the price was right (and because it looks good). I happy to say that I haven't had any problems so far. I've burned a dozen CD-Rs in the past few weeks, both data and audio. What's more, it works perfectly with Mac OS X v10.1. I just plugged it in, put in a blank CD-R, and, to my amazement, it prepared the disc and was ready to burn! I didn't have to install any drivers or special software first. iTunes fully supports this drive, too, which makes burning audio CDs a breeze. Overall, my experience using this Iomega CD-RW drive with Mac OS X has been excellent.

Summary: Easy-to-use, reliable, but not a speed demon
Review: I use this external USB 4x4x6 usb drive to backup data from my Toshiba notebook (using the Backup program that comes with Windows 98) and to make copies of cd-rw disks.

I found this drive to be easy to use and quite reliable, but it is slow. It takes 20-25 minutes to backup, compress and verify 390MB of data, so it is no speed demon. I use Sony CD-RW disks and had no problems with storing data on them.

If you have problems with using this USB cd-rw drive with your computer, you probably want to make sure you are using the Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) or higher on your computer. The older version of Windows 98 had some bugs and problems; Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) contains updates and bug fixes to provide better support for USB and FireWire devices.

Summary: Works great ... when it works
Review: I wish I'd seen the reviews written by Toshiba Satellite owners before I purchased the CDRW. I have a Toshiba laptop, and burning CDs can be a nightmare. First, the adaptec software does not work fully on my laptop. Tech support told me to upgrade the software. That didn't help. So I use MusicMatch instead; however, I receive repeated messages that there is no CD in the machine, even though there is. (Support told me to reduce the speed.)After repeated attempts, the process sometimes "takes" and creates a great CD. More often, I receive error messages. It's not worth the trouble.

Summary: A good CD-RW Drive
Review: This is a very good CD-RW drive. I've used it for a while now and it works flawlessly on EVERY CD. The software included is a bit clumsy, but this can simply be fixed by getting good software. (Free off of the Internet.) When I hooked it up to an old 300Mhz K6 it had a bit of trouble burning at 4x but worked great at 2x. It burns at full speed on my 1.3 gig Athlon. In spite of the other reviews, it works fine on my friends 800Mhz laptop. This drive is worth every dollar and more.

Summary: Hit or Miss
Review: I'm using it with an early iMac (Mac O.S. 8.6). I've made more "coasters" than CDs. Called Mac. I have the extended warranty on the iMac. They said that they get calls all the time about using Toast, the software included with this product. They said Toast has a problem with alot of Mac extensions.

For every CD i've "burned", i've ruined at least 1 blank CD. And i do it the same way everytime. One time it gives me some sort of error message. I do the exact same thing again, and it works fine. Yes, i am using the brand of blank CDs that Iomega recommended.

Had a little bit better luck storing data on a CD, but i've ruined a few blank CDs doing that also.

The guy at Mac said if i had at least O.S. 9 (or better) and got iToons it should work better. Maybe. Maybe not.

If you're using a slightly older Mac and want to "burn" music CDs, this will work. And when it works, it works great. But, you may need 50 blank CDs to actually "burn" 20. As far as data storage, 50 blanks will probably get you about 40-45 good discs. Well, at least that's been my experience.

Summary: It just does the job.
Review: This unit works fine with my Dell system, occasional glitches aside. The adaptec software is good enough, though the labling programs need work. They frequently re-arrange text after you get it the way you want it. Very frustrating. Aside from that the CDs have come out flawless every time. Note, I have only used it for music.

Summary: Seems like a nice drive, but experienced problems
Review: I liked the clean and professional appearance of the drive, and have been fairly pleased with my Zip250, but I experienced problems with the ZipCD Writer almost from the beginning. Tech support was courteous and quick to answer the phone every time I called. However, after what seemed like several hours of troubleshooting, I needed something that would work with my system and decided to go with another brand.

I own a laptop connected to a docking station. The two problems that most concerned me with the ZipCD were 1. It destroyed my first 3 CD-R's, and 2. I couldn't eject a CD-RW that I had successfully formatted.

The technicians advised me to do many things. They told me the drive must not be connected to a USB hub (something I didn't see mentioned anywhere in the instructions). We also tried replacing drivers. After much troubleshooting, there seemed to be a compatibility issue with other Iomega software.

I didn't own this drive long enough to say that it's a poor product. I know many people are using theirs successfully. However, the drive I exchanged this for (the HP 8230e) has worked flawlessly so far. I like the software better that came with the Zip, but the HP burns the CD's, and that's my primary need.

Summary: What's works with Mac doesn't work with Toshiba
Review: Since the day I've bought this device I was not able to make a single CD. I've been in contact with Iomega technical support first via email (took weeks) and then on the phone (available weekdays only from 9 to 5!). I've received numerous (sometimes conflicting) advises from Iomega technical support personal. None of the solutions led to a satisfactory outcome. The device ruined dozens of blank CDs.
If you have a Toshiba laptop DO NOT buy this device. It took 6 months to find out that this device is not compatible with Toshiba laptops (the problem is the USB driver made by NEC used on some Toshiba computers).
However, Iomega CD-RWs work well with Mac computers.

Summary: ... if only you could install it
Review: I bought a Iomega Predator but had to return it. Neither me nor a friend could get it working properly. We tried it on two different laptops and usind Win Me and Win 2000. Iomega has a very good customer service website but their people couldn't help.
