Summary: Cheap in price and quality
Review: This external USB burner never worked properly for me. Sometimes it would never be recognized as a drive, and it would take multiple uninstalls/reinstalls just to get it recognized. Then trying to burn a CD?! Forget about it, the software was not very good and it would stop half way through and ruin the CD. Not a good product and the tech support for this product is almost non-existent. They would continually blame my USB controller, which by the way has no issues with other USB devices, including other brand USB burners.

Summary: Easy to use
Review: I wasn't sure if I should buy it based on some mixed reviews, however, I took the chance and found it super easy to load, and very easy to use.

I have been making music CDs with it using the software that came with the burner - the same software acts as a DJ, etc. What I do though is I copy the songs onto my hard drive, then burn them onto the CD with the sofware (I was not successful attempting to just go right from the CD to the CD burner).

Anyway - it's a GREAT buy, I just would advise you to copy the songs onto your hard drive, then just click and drag them to the playist, and hit "make cd" and next thing ya know you have a music CD.

I love it!

Summary: Do Not Buy!
Review: I should have realized that inexpensive = cheap. From the moment I began to set it up there were problems. The menus aren't intuitive, the hardware doesn't work properly and is not solidly built, the software doesn't work properly... even the 'uninstaller' didn't work. And that was all on a brand-new Dell computer which had ZERO problems before I added this item. Pay more and be happy. I'll be returning mine tomorrow.

Summary: If the CD-RW has the wrong S/N, Win98 won't recognize it
Review: I purchased this CD-RW and went home to install. After hours of installing and reinstalling, looking at troubleshooting pages, and finally finding an obsure page with the answer, I found out that any of these particular CD-RWs that start with serial number 5TD will not be recognized by Win98. Guess what the serial number on my CD-RW started with? Iomega admits it was a problem they just discovered. Had I been warned in the beginning I would not have bought this particular unit. I packed the unit up and returned it the next day. Think I will shop for another brand that works.

Summary: Spend a little more, get a better product
Review: Since I purchased this product I burned 2 cds. I have also spent at least 20 hours troubleshooting the multiple errors, re-installing the software, consulting on-line help, all to no avail. The program crashed as I burned the 3rd cd and it has never worked since. I consider myself fairly tech savvy and have a fast modern computer to run the burner. Obviously I cannot recommend this product. It shipped with two versions of the software creating confusion from the moment I opened the box. As I work through the troubleshooting guides, they are equally terrible and confusing with either no reference available to the many different errors that are reported, or the wonderfully insightful tip to re-install the software and if the problem persists contact the manufacturer. Were I to review the product properly functioning I could only add another star, because the software causes the system to crash far more often than before installation. It also takes longer to boot up, and when a cd is finally burned, it takes a very long time.
Conclusion: Spend a little more, get a better product, save the headaches that I am experiencing.

Summary: Sooner or later it will break your heart
Review: I wish I had looked at the reviews before I bought this drive. I actually do not have my original drive, I am on my third replacement provided by Iomega. While I cannot fault customer service, I can't believe the company is still in business selling such poor equipment. And forget about the adaptec software.....the worst! I will be buying another company's product after my refund.

Summary: great once you can install it.
Review: I love this burner! It took awhile to install but after a few times un-installing and re-installing everything was fine. I've burned 3 CDs on 2x and they're in perfect condition. No coasters! I'm not sure if the problems were from the software, the burner, or Windows ME, but it works great now.
The software could be better, but the music match that came with it makes up for it. I would suggest using that to burn music CDs instead of the other.

Summary: Not for use with Mac
Review: Customer service by e-mail was unable to provide useful information on how to use this product with a G3 Powerbook running OS 8.6. I was told that a required extension is "Toast USB Iomega Bridge," which doesn't come with the software supplied. The online person at Iomega sent me to Adaptec for an upgrade (Toast 413 OEM) which I installed but which didn't enable me to copy anything. He then brushed me off with the suggestion that I check whether my media (which I had told him had been supplied by Iomega) was compatible with the product. When I asked whether we shouldn't be tracking down a source for the missing extension, I was told to refer further inquires to the phone line--which is so backed up as to be virtually useless.

Summary: Great Drive, REALLY BAD US customer service.
Review: To make a long story short, I'm a Canadian living in Japan and I wanted a USB CDRW drive for my USB port-abundant Compaq computer (that was short on every other kind of expansion). (...) Finally, it arrives, and before I even get the drive out of the wrapping, the software screws up. It was the wrong driver software! So began a nightmare of e-mails and long distance calls to Iomega US customer service, where one hand didn't know what the other hand was doing. The online support was horrid, while the people on the phone were kind and courteous, but forgetful. Twice I was promised that a replacement disc would be sent to me in Japan, only for me to find myself waiting over a month to then be told that Iomega couldn't send a measly CD to Japan. Fortunately, Iomega of Japan went beyond the call of duty and procured a CD for me on their own. They were kind, couretous, fast, and they kept their promises. If only America and Canada would take a hint from the Japanese. Anyway, the drive is excellent and works without a hitch, but I suggest downloading a demo of Nero Burning ROM to use in the meantime (it works just as relialbly if not more than the Adaptec software) if you encounter a similar problem. The Music Match software is great and works with no problems. For CDRW I only tried using the Verbatim CDRW discs, and they work beautifully. But any decent CDRs will work on this thing. I'd mark the system lower for the lousy US service, but the Adaptec software does work when it's the right software (the disc is (...) red and white, not black and white, which is for USB/Firewire. Easy to get mixed up, I guess), and there are other software alternatives, such as Nero. So I still give this baby a 4 out of 5. Just be prepared for customer service hassles.
