Summary: A GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE ON GO PERSON
Review: I bought this to use to help me burn important data off my laptop when I am on the go. This was the cheapest and easy. The other reason that I bought it was the fact that I have bought IOMEGA products in the past an was impressed with thier service and lifespan. The device is real easy to setup and break down and doesn't really take up that much space when you are sitting in a hotel room or in a conference center. The only down side is all the wires involved.

Summary: Works less than 1/2 the time
Review: I'm somewhat of a beginner to all of this, but when I drop a couple hundred bucks on something I expect it to work more often than not. I have no problem copying CDs but when I try to burn MP3's all I ever get is error messages. The Iomega website tells me to download the new version of Toast for my iMac and the problem will be solved...yeah, right. The technical support is practically non-existent. Overall, I'd have to say I'm disappointed.

Summary: Works Great with a few design flaws
Review: I have had this burner for 4 months or so. Mine works great also, but I find the modular plug flimsey, and I don't understand why it sits there and pulses the cd motor when closed and empty. I have to unplug the thing when it is not in use so that I don't have to listen to it whirring every 5 seconds. Also the electronic eject button is kind of bogus. You can't open the disk door when it is not plugged in, and I think that it is a weak link. Over all I am happy though. I anticipate that Iomega will correct these things with the next model. Wait if you can. Also, firewire would be nice, the burning process isn't slow, but it could always be faster!!

Summary: Great when working
Review: I purchased this drive and had great success the first time I used it. The next time I used the drive my troubles started. The Iomega product support is the worst I ever encountered. The tech lines disconnect you when they are busy and the email response is a joke. They do not respond.

Summary: Great item & great price
Review: I just got this item yesterday and, I've already burned several CDs. It was easy to set up, included softwares are intuitive & easy to use. In addition, the writer looks awesome. I was even hynotized by that thing on top of the writer for a few seconds. :) However, I do have one question though. Does anyone know what this file "PowerReg SchedulerV2" do in my startup folder? It was there after I installed the writer. I emailed Iomega & heard back from them within 24 but the tech support said he had no idea. spacemonkey148@netscape.net

Summary: Hey Brent from Denver
Review: Your review was very helpful. I am in the market for a CD-RW and have been looking at the options for use with my new iMac. You said that the USB interface is modular with the Predator, and that if you upgrade to a machine with firewire, you could upgrade the interface. I have firewire now, does this mean that I could choose to use a firewire interface with this drive? Also I think that Toast will allow you to set your cache buffer up to 4 times the write speed, to avoid the underruns. You can also get a little help by increasing the RAM allotment to Toast.

Summary: Easy to install
Review: I read several horror stories about USB CD-RW devices, but decided to take the plunge anyway. The installation instructions were very easy to follow, and the device installed without any problems. The "how to use" instructions could use a little improvement: more scenarios for how to do common tasks for example. Overall I am very happy with the Predator.

Summary: Sleek, Sexy, and SIMPLE
Review: Aesthetics aside, Iomega seems to have gotten it right with this USB CD-RW. A novice to external burning, I was able to have the Predator up and running within minutes and my first direct CD to CD-RW burned within the half-hour. I would rate the burner five stars had I not run into problems burning audio at 4x (I tend to lose the last thirty seconds of an album... not a major problem, and probably a software one at that, but nonetheless annoying). While I have had success at this speed, a few missing favorite last tracks were enough for me to learn my lesson. Of course, data back up has been just as easy, if not more so. While I cannot verify the validity of such claims, I have installed the "cacheman" cache optimization program after reading many reviews that underruns can be minimized with such.

Summary: A pretty good burner
Review: I bought this burner for my new HP notebook, primarily for burning audio CDs. I found that using the "CD Copier" option was a better choice for that because using the burner to scan/read the orignal and then to burn the blank overheated it, causing more disc errors. The "CD Copier" uses the CD-ROM in your pc to read the orignal CD you're burning, and then uses the burner to burn the blank.

I tried upgrading the software that it came with (Easy CD Creator), but I found that it was more trouble than it was worth. It requires that you remove all previous editions of CD creator, which sometimes takes the Iomega's drivers with it. And when you try to re-install the drivers, it also re-installs the previous version of the software, which then requires you to remove the upgraded version that you just installed. grrr.

All in all, it's a pretty good burner. Just make sure that it's on a flat hard surface that's stable (a slight knock on it and it reports a disc error) and if you intend to use it heavily, give it breaks every so often to cool down (or else you get disc errors).

Summary: Highly Unreliable
Review: As with other reviewers, I have experienced numerous problems with this drive. At least 1/3 of all attempts result in ruined disks. I cannot use any other program while burning (and must kill all background processes). I can only use blanks made by certain manufacturers (expensive 'name-brand' only) and frequently the disks cannot be read by friends' CD players.
As reported by others, Iomega support were of no help whatsovever.
