Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I like the TDK burner, but it's the software that counts, and Nero gets a big fat ZERO in my book. I had an HP previously but it didn't last 2 years before the motor quit. I couldn't burn video CD's with the Adaptec software and that's why I was driven to the TDK. The Nero Express software that comes with this unit does do that, but it's been a nightmare. For one, processing and reformating mpeg and avi files takes literaly hours. Sometimes during the converting process and occasionally during the burning process it fails, causing you to start over. Many wasted hours! Even when making an mp3 CD the processing time is slow. There is no drag-n-drop feature for files. Granted I'm working with an older PII 450 w/256 ram, but the Adaptec was more user friendly and faster to add files. Even when recalling saved projects, the Nero took too much time. I would continue to use my Adaptec for mp3's, but since I took out my HP, it doesn't recognize the new burner. I also don't like the fact that you can't organize mp3 songs in your own order without changing the file name by adding a number to it. The Adaptec didn't do it either, though. As for the cover design section, there are only 6 designs to choose from. Far less than Easy CD Creator's "Jewel Case Creator". And there is no option for changing the paper for CD labels. At first I thought it was in the printer option's, but I opened up "Jewel Case Creator" and the first window that opens on page set-up, prompts you to choose the label paper. I guess I'll be looking for some better software to purchase, but the reviews here aren't too encouraging for that idea.
Rating: Summary: Amazing CD Burner! Review: I like this CD Burner a lot. Its fast, its easy to use and it is easy to install. The 52x Write speed is the fastest write speed on the market, which allows you to burn CDs in less than 3 minutes. The blue tray is very cool. The Nero and TDK burning software is incredibly easy to use with its drag-and-drop interface. It is also at a very reasonable price for a CD Burner such as this, with the fast speeds and included software. I fully reccomend this CD Burner and the TDK brand. Sony may have a great reputation for electronics, but this TDK burner is clearly the best one out there.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Recorder! Review: My Compaq Presario that I bought some 3+ years ago came with a CD-RW drive that was an 8X (speed). It (such as it was) had performed very well reading and burning disks for a long time and then it up and died on me unexpectedly. I bought this TDK drive as a replacement and have not been disappointed in the least. TDK is a brand name that I had always associated with video and audio cassette tapes and 'not' with any kind of electronics equipment per se; and that made me a little nervous/wary about ordering it. It 'is' fast and at first I kind of thought that the blue plastic interface of the tray was cheap-looking and unattractive but actually it isn't unattractive at all. Also, I think that the Nero Express that came with the software is excellent. I have used it successfully to make data disks. Anyone who buys this won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Fast and reliable! Review: Okay, first off I had an old old old cd burner in which it took hours to complete one cd. After hours and hours of research in finding the best new cd burner out there, I came across this fast and reliable device. When I finally received my TDK CD-RW drive and I was amazed at how easy and fast this thing burned my cds. There were no errors, considering the fact that it was writing at an amazing 52X. I burned 4 cds within 5 mins!! Not only that, it comes with a software that you can add crossfading option. In case you dont know what that is, it is a program where it will burn individual tracks and fade it too the next track to make it more of a continuous mix. Simply a great buy. I totally recommend this product.
Rating: Summary: It dont get any better than this!! Review: TDK VELOCD 52x24x48 (5200B) I have been looking at reviews on the Internet about CD-RW drives and it seemed the Plextor, Yamaha, and the TDK were the best drives out there. So I decided to go with the TDK 52x24x48 because the reviews I read seemed to favor the TDK. I made the right choice. This drive is amazing. I can burn a full CD in 3 minutes. I can play a game while burning and get no errors. install was a breeze and the blue CD tray looks sweet. I cant say enough about this drive, TDK out did themselves. I only use the Digital Mix Master software that came with it for ripping audio because the nero that comes with it is great for burning. you can make a VCD or a SVCD in no time with the built in MPEG 1 and 2 codec's (although the MPEG codec is a trial and you have to purchase it on the nero website). If your trying to decide on a burner, go with this drive, you wont be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Practical, useful and nice looking Review: The transparent blue CD tray is cool. The unit installs very easily and works flawlessly. Burning at 52X means you'll be done in 2 and a half minutes. It works perfectly even when burning cheap Walmart CDRs that are only rated at 24X, I burn them at 52X and I have yet to screw one up. A great CDR.
Rating: Summary: NIce package, no problems. Review: This burner replaces an old HP Easywriter 7200 with a max write speed of *gasp* 2x. Honestly, anything would have been better. However, I was pleased with the packaging, including mounting hardware and little visual-aid instructions. This would have challenged my mom, but anyone who has ever opened their computer should have no problem installing this. Windows 2000 pro recognized it and I was running in 10 minutes total install time.I don't know what the complaint about the burning software is about, I don't think it's any better or worse than anything else I've used. I don't do a ton of burning or ripping, so maybe I can't appreciate the subtle differences between Nero 5 and the TDK; they both offer more than I really need and I find them both to be pretty complicated, but I can use either one. I'm happy with it and can recommend it to anyone with no problems.
Rating: Summary: Noisy but competent Review: This drive is beautiful on the outside, but a bit noisy while reading or writing at any speed. The TDK software is unusable, but the Nero Express bundled is very usable and saves the day. The software package that came with my old HP was much better in every aspect. Nevertheless, the drive itself works flawlessly and burns at top speed without errors reading from my 5400 rpm hard disk, even with files scatered all over the disk. It adjust to lower speeds automaticaly while burning to avoid buffer underruns and I've never lost a CDR with this drive. All in all a good purchase, but the TDK software that comes with it needs a serious makeover. It is sluggish, confusing and not user friendly at all.
Rating: Summary: TDK VELOCD 52x ....The ULTIMATE CD Burner Review: You know, I read one review on here that gave this drive (1)-star. That review was completely inaccurate, and from what I can tell simply someone frustrated with not knowing more about there hardware and software capabilities. I have been burning CD's since the mid 90's when the first Philips External SCSI 2x burners were released to the public for $1,299.00. The first software was Corel's Easy CD v.92, which Adapatec later bought and turned into the notorious Easy CD Creator, which was then relabled as Roxio, a sub-company of Adaptec. I am a veteran of nearly ALL burning software that exists for both CD's and DVD's. My preference is of course NERO. Originally, I used Corel v.92, and continued to use it for years until it matured into Roxio's Easy CD Creator v5. At this point, they sided with the RIAA and future versions no longer copied copy protected cd's. In any regard, this (1)-star individual states you can't re-arrange songs without adding numbers to them. This is false. Both Roxio and Nero do this by simply dragging and dropping the selected songs into the order you would like them. As for the poor video perfomance, it was not the software but the system. Although this individuals system met the minimum hardware requirements, most likely other software was running in the background via processes and the system tray. Items that are started as services and started in the registry, not the windows startup folder. In any regard, this drive supports full CAV(Constant Angular Velocity) which is phenomenal!!! But, you must have ultra dma enabled via the hard drive controller in device manager for full CAV to work. If your controller supports ultra dma, and your hard drives are ultra dma drives, then stand by for the best CD burner that exists!!! I also use TDK's Indi DVD 8x8 and my latest drive is LG's 12x multiformat that supports DVD-RAM and Dual Layer. The TDK drives are by far, OUTSTANDING!!! I continue to use the VELOCD 52x for my CD's as the Indi DVD does not burn cd's using full CAV. And I only bought the LG 12x because of all the formats it supports and TDK hasn't released a drive as such just yet. Bottom line, if you are looking for the best, most reliable cd burner drive on the market, then look no further than the VELOCD 52x by TDK. Sure you can buy a Mitsumi or Samsung drive for half the price, but they all fall short in comparison to the VELOCD 52x and FULL CAV. Thank you all for your time.
