Summary: GREAT PRODUCT, SO-SO DOCS AND SUPPORT
Review: This product is worthy of 5 stars, but doesn't receive it because of the documentation and support.

The specifications say this drive is Windows 2000 compatible, but to get it to work with Windows 2000 you have to pry the information out of Plextor--it's not in the documentation or on the website.

Otherwise, this is a very good drive and is very reliable.

Summary: Honest Opinion
Review: A friend bought this for me a few months ago and I live it. It was easy to install and the Plextor Software that comes with it works great. I haven't burned a coaster yet.

Summary: Fast burner, but not burn proof.
Review: I was able to burn an audio cd in 6 minutes at 12x using a Celeron 366!! 8 minutes for an audio cd on a CDRW at 10x. The burner is quiet too, unlike my sisters Yamaha CDRW. As for being burn-proof... while using the burn-proof technology, I thought I would be able to surf the net. I was wrong. My PC froze and therefore created an incomplete CD. This is the only reason why it did not get a 5 star rating. Also, I use Nero 5, not EZ CD Creator. I like it a lot better.

Summary: Excellent CD-RW
Review: This is the probaly the first best CD-RW i ever had, because i bought this product few months ago and it still havent have a problem with it. It burns my cd easy and quickly. The best thing that it support DMA (Direct Memory Access) means Computers with DMA channels can transfer data to and from devices much more quickly than those in which the data path goes through the computer's main processor.

Summary: Not Perfect, but Pretty Darn Close
Review: Let me start off with this: I've made probably about half a dozen coasters, maybe more. So yes, it's not perfect. But consider the circumstances in which those coasters were made: a disc-at-once 80-minute CD, for instance, burned at 12x while surfing the net or with Microsoft Word running. Or an especially CPU-intensive, 3d graphics-heavy screensaver accidentally coming on during the burning process. Otherwise I've experienced the blue screen of death a few times because other programs were running at the same time -- then I'd "press any key to return to Windows," and lo and behold, the PlexWriter would magically continue burning (and burn the CD successfully, at that). Now I usually turn off everything if I want to burn something at 12x, or reduce the burning speed to 8x if I want to, say, use Free Agent at the same time. It's a rock-solid drive, and I wish I bought it earlier (before I bought those two HPs).

Summary: Excellent. Buy. Immediately.
Review: Newbies be careful - CD burners can be tricky to use, and there is a lot of crud out there. It is not a foolproof (or smartyproof) process, like making a cassette tape. But I love my Plextor, because it works well. It is a beautiful Plextor. It is not very expensive, and it cranks out audio CDs at 4X like a charm. Don't be put off by the fact that it is an internal drive. Installation is actually a fairly simple process.

Summary: may not be the fastest, but the best
Review: I won't repeat other reviewer's words. so please go to www.cdrinfo.com to check it out. then you will know Plextor writer is always the best performance CDRW, if not the fastest. Yet for this 1210A model, you would want to avoid versions like TLA0101 and TLA03XX since they don't copy subchannel data.(This is not really that important unless you are going to make backup copies with SecuRom/SecuRom2 protection such as Startcraft/Diablo/Diablo2) But most 1210A TLA2XXX and all 1610A models work great.

Summary: Simple installation
Review: Very easy to install, even for me. I reveiwed the Yamaha and the newest Plextor and decided since my machine is a couple of years old to go with an older Plextor. I'm not a big user but I wanted something to send pictures to family and to back up files on. Very easy to use, I can drag and drop pictures with the software it came with. The documentation was wonderful too.

Summary: Why I chose the Plextor 12x10x32, and then returned it.
Review: I wanted the best CD burner I could get and it was the Plextor 12 speed. I installed the drive in my computer and then installed the software that came with the unit, Easy CD and Plextor Manager. I had been using Easy CD before this and was glad to have something familiar. I was not, however, pleased with the Plextor Manager aspect. Plextor want it's units to be set on the Master setting and any additional drives set to Slave. This was not how I was used to running my system and it was very difficult to get used to. As far as burning CD's the unit is flawless. It is true that you can run other applications and surf the web while burning, but what you are not told is the Plextor slows down to a crawl when you are doing this. You can forget playing music on your other drive becase the Plextor is your CD player now. If you are not concerned with speed and want to run other apps. while burning, then this is the CD-RW for you. If, on the other hand, you need speed and don't run other programs in the backgroud, either stick with what you have now, or find a burner that will allow you to set in on Slave. I would like to add that when I was copying from CD to CD, I didn't notice the 12x speed being any faster than my old 8x Sony, go figure.....

Summary: Get into the new era now!
Review: I had all the gadgets but hadn't bought a CD burner yet. So i bought this one and it is great! all my friends want to come over and use it and i have been buring like crazy too. Its very fast and reliable! and a great deal! CD-RW come in very handy. Nowadays everyone has one so buring a CD-RW and taking it with you is much better than an unreliable floppy and an outdated zip disk! and Plextor is a good one!
