Summary: Excellent value!
Review: I have never had so much improvement from a [price] upgrade. This is far more stable and far faster than the drive Dell supplied only a year ago. Even if you have a working CDR drive, buy this and you will be glad you did.

Summary: Updating firmware toasted the drive
Review: I recently tried to upgrade the firmware on this drive and now the drive is a retractable cupholder! I've got a LOT of experience with things like firmware upgrades and followed the instructions to the letter. The firmware update program said that it completed successfully and I figured I'd be off and burning again. Now the drive won't even recognize a commercial pressed CD. I tried installing the drive in another machine as a check and it was dead there too. Yamaha used to be "The Brand" and all I'd buy. Now I'm done with them.

Summary: Rough start with the software, but now working like a charm!
Review: I totally rely on amazon reviews and feedback for purchases, and this was no exception. Installation went amazingly well, considering I'd never installed an internal device before...don't be intimidated, you CAN do it!

Then, I had what seemed like tons of problems trying to get a CD burned. I'm not impressed with Nero, the included software. It would seem like it was burning, and then nothing would be on the CD. It turned out to be a *really* simple problem - which I figured out myself by messing around with it a lot, no thanks to Nero's subpar help files and FAQs (oh, and no phone support unless you live in Germany).

For me, the key was on the recorder menu "Choose Recorder" - where you have to pick the correct burner device. It had been recording to an "Image recorder." I certainly never set that up, so not sure how it got automatically configured that way. Before sending nasty notes to email support, you might double check that setting.

However - now it's working great! I blame the software - NOT the hardware, for my initial problems...

General note: This review and feedback system works if you work it! Thanks to all who helped me make my decision by taking the time to write detailed reviews...hopefully I can help with mine.

Summary: Simple, Simple, Simple
Review: I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for a cd-rw drive. I installed this drive into my home pc in about 10 minutes, maybe a little less. I was shocked to find it no where near as noisy as it is made out to be. I had no trouble installing the software and making copies of files. This is a great drive, I was a little leary about buying it when I read some of the reviews, but I have to say, it was well worth the purchase. ... You'll love it, new to cd-r or not, Yamaha has made it simple, with a great software bundle and simple instructions.

Summary: YAMAHA IS THE BEST!
Review: I'm so glad there are things that you can still count on....One is definately the Yamaha name. I had a receiver in 1972 and it lastest 22 years. Now, this is my very first CD-RW and I am so happy I made this choice. Largely due to the reviews that were given and then, of course when I did receive it and actually install it without having to take it to a shop. It was so easy and I actually burned my first CD. I was so proud. This is definately everything and more that it claims to be. Buy this one, you won't be sorry.

Summary: Near Perfect Unit
Review: I've burned several CDs with the unit now, and it is super fast. Works very well, and I only have one problem with it. It never burns at 24x, as it blames the media used. I have tried cds up to 32x, and it drops to 16x. That's still smokin' fast.

Summary: Cream Of The Crop
Review: If you are looking for satisfaction and performance, this is it! Yamaha has done it with the CDRW3200EX. Engineered to perform, and Nero is definitly a plus. I updated my CDRW with this product, and am loving it. Need I say more!

Summary: Worthless Piece of GARBAGE
Review: Initial reviews were great for this product, so I thought I made a good decision. My burner worked great for a few months ( I burned 5 or 6 CD's). Suddenly it is identified by Windows (98, ME, and 2000 Pro) but will not read ANY CD that is inserted. NO support from Yamaha. I might as well have paid $150.00 for a steaming pile of crap and shoved it in my computer. I paid about $25 a piece for each CD burned. I will never buy a Yamaha product ever again.

Summary: Positively Super!!
Review: Please keep in mind I'm a 50 year old woman who bought her first computer 2 years ago. I bought this burner because I'm very impressed with Yamaha electronics and I was not disappointed. It took my 24 year old niece and I about half an hour to install it (very carefully if you know any old ladies) and up came the cues and away I went. I have burned about a hundred discs and never had one problem. Yamaha is the best and Nero is the best. I can't tell the difference when I play them on my wall-vibrating stereo (Yamaha, of course). Buy it, you'll love it.
