TDK AID+840 DVD Internal 8X Multi Format Drive

Review: I bought this product because of it's full features and good reviews. It is well built and came with Roxio software. It performed all functions well, but one. It wouldn't read various DVDs. It didn't matter whether they were commercial movies or made by me in any format. I dealt with TDK free support on numerous occasions. They were very patient, but ultimately felt it was obviously some problem with my end, not theirs. Out of frustration I bought an I/O Magic drive with substantially the same specs as the TDK, but MUCH less expensive and probably not quite as well built. However, ALL features in this unit worked perfectly right out of the box. It uses the same basic software as the TDK. I feel very disappointed and don't feel I got much satisfaction from TDK, to say nothing of the money wasted.

Summary: Great burner with the right software
Review: This is my 1st review and 1st dvd burner. I have done alot of reseaching and pricing and I'm a novice at the PC. This dvd burner makes excellent dvd and plays all dvd. First you need the right software and I have purchased the Roxio Easy creator platimum 6 for $40.00 at Best Buy. The TDK Burner and my Dell pc has the Roxio easy creator basic, therefore I know the both system are compatible. The set up was a breeze for both burner and software. The most important thing to do to make sure that you will make a playable dvd is the read, read, read both manuals for TDK burner and Roxio.I have removed any previous Roxio software from my pc and only use the platimum 6 version (with update drivers) with the burner. You might also want to have a video card that allows you to hook up a dvd or vcr player to your pc. I have the Radeon All-In-Wonder 8500dv that allows me to hook up a dvd/vcr player or camera to the video card and record the video to file. My first dvd burned from the Tdk burner was a region 2 concert that was played on a multi- region dvd player, the first one was a coaster then I re-read the manuals and after that all burned dvds are playable on 3 different dvd players with quality sound and video (minus the menus and chapters). I have not tried the dvd copier because of the restriction of commercial dvd copying , but I will give that a try next time. TDK AID+840 burner together with Roxio Platimum are a winning hand. Remenber you need a large hard drive with plenty of memory and all programs and the screen saver turned "off" and learn as much as you can before you make your first dvd. I am very happy with TDK burner and would highly recommend this to anyone.
