Summary: At first, the price of the drive sucked me in. . .
Review: but then, I recieved it in the mail and it was not what i bargained for. I thought I might be able to say it was great for the price, but there are a few catches. If you read the editor's review, you would find out that the drive doesn't even come close to the claimed speed of 7.2 mps. When the review also says that the drive's tray is flimsy, it's not joking. The tray was extremely flimsy. In fact, it bent severely every time I reached to put in or take out a cd. Also, after reading reviews for other Digital Research products, I found that Digital Reasearch takes an extremely long time to return the mail in rebate check, if at all. I don't know if this pertained just to the drive I received, but the dial in the front of the drive for volume control scraped against the edges when I turned it. I have since returned the drive because i don't think the mail in rebate was worth all the problems I encountered with the drive. Still, it's not a bad drive if you are extremely patient, in a tight jam for money, and dont mind certain disadvantages.

Review: Drive arrived after being shipped to WA, very quick though as I was living in GA not so useful :-) 2nd attempt drive arrived installed 1st time, and so far I have had no problems. It reads CD-RW / CD-R with less errors than the drive that's burning the disks. Noise on full spin is intrusive but music cd's play with no more noise than my other drives. ( If you need hi-fi a cd-rom and speakers aren't the way to go anyway :-) Only complaint is the frail tray mechanism. 4 stars with a rebate, 3 without.

Summary: Don't you dare buy this piece of #$!@!
Review: I am a computer engineer, but even I couldn't get the piece of horsesh!t to work. I went through 3 drives and countless hours of tech support, but it was totally hopeless. At least i get to keep the rebate.

Summary: Very poor service
Review: I bought the above product locally. Setup was easy except if you do not have windows. They supplied a setup disk that was faulty. I tried numerous times to get a replacement disk from their office in Texas. You cannot speak directly to a rep, you must leave a message and they will get back to you at their own leisure. I waited over two months for the disk. IT NEVER CAME. This was after I was told it was on its way three times. I never recieved the rebate either. I finally returned it to the local store and got my money back. My advice, don't have any dealings with this company, they will just rip you off.

Summary: Digital Research rebate never arrives
Review: I purchased a Digital Research CDROM drive in March of this year. I mailed the rebate coupon, my receipt and the UPC code from the box and I never received the rebate.

Don't count on receiving rebates from Digital Research.

Summary: Do not buy this of #$#@#!
Review: My friend bought this thing and wanted me to come check it out. I did. It doesn't even get close to 48x (7.2 mb/sec). Then the tray BENT whenever I put a cd in or took one out. That really was not good since I am worried for my PC game loving friend that his CD drive is gonna go kapoot on him. Also, the CD's get really HOT in there. This doesn't have advanced reading technology or anything, it just spins faster. This is REALLY bad for a CD because the heat (I almost burned myself on a CD) can cause the data area to become warped and you will lose your software/audio cd that is in the drive. Look elsewhere for a CD drive!
