Rating: Summary: Simply....The Best! Review: Of all the DVD burners out there, this is the best. Have burned over 60 DVD's without one coaster. Multiple format proves invaluable. Spend the extra $$$ you'll make it up in the end by not wasting time and ruined DVD software.
Rating: Summary: Nightmare off shore Review: The unit isn't bad. Worked well for 8 months before it died. That's when the trouble started. Sony service is a nightmare. After 4 transfers between off shore service tech sites (with the bad accents can hardly understand what they are saying)and 5-15 min holds at each I arrived at the supposed right place. I have a phone that keep track of call times and it reported a 83 minute hold time. I got the represenative, talked for two minutes, was placed on hold so tech could talk to his superviser and was hung up on. Called back, and again the transfers and an 80+ minute wait. Then I was transfered to another tech (the last hurtle). I ended up with a tech shop 100 miles from my home. After all of this the last insult was that I was required to pay shipping to the tech shop. I strongly suggest that you buy from a more reliable company.

Rating: Summary: Works as advertised... but get out your wallet! Review: This drive supports all 4 popular DVD formats:DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW It does not support DVD-RAM but trust me, you don't need that. With the DLA (Drive Letter Access) software that Sony gives you with the drive, DVD-RAM really isn't needed. Not to mention I know of zero standalone DVD players that support DVD-RAM. It comes with 1 DVD+RW disc which I doubt your standalone DVD player supports so pick up some -R or +R discs. WARNING!!!! NOT ALL DVD+R and DVD-R DISCS ARE CREATED EQUAL!!!! I purchased some Imation DVD+R discs with the drive and they did not work! Sony claims that some discs are of low quality and have a list that they support... Imation is not one of them. Try Sony or Verbatim discs... I can confirm they work. I believe TDK also works according to Sony. Make sure you upgrade your firmware when you install. The drive comes with Sonic MyDVD burning software which isn't bad. Nero is the best but MyDVD is fine if it's FREE! ;-) Anyway, it's a great drive... the only reason I give it 4 stars is price. I think it's a little slow compared to some -R drives but not by much. If you have the money, get this drive. For a cheaper solution, get the Pioneer A05. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Well worth the price...Has everything you need. Review: This DVD recorder is perfect simply because you can use any format. You don't need to worry about which "R" mode to use for recording and its a Sony, so you won't get stuck with a cheap "brand-X" DVD burner. I bought the DRU-510A model at a local computer convention recently and immediately began using it with the bundled software. You can't go wrong buying this one.
