Summary: Not for use with Panasonic DVD burners
Review: I bought these disks to use with my Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD recorder. Out of the first 17, only 5 burned correctly. About 6 of the first 17 were a total loss and on the other 6 I was able to use to record some VHS tapes. That is, I was able to record on them at 1x speed after the recorder failed to burn them correctly at 4x speed. I have used several other brands of DVDS with the Panasonic recorder and not had a single problem in roughly 40 DVDs.

Summary: Stay well away!
Review: I figured Memorex would be a safe choice for my first set of DVDs. Boy was I wrong. I have had nothing but trouble with these disks. One quarter of discs didn't even make it through writing the table of contents. I thought the rest of the discs were good, but couldn't figure out why the software DVD player would lock up when viewing scenes near the end of some of the discs. I then used the freeware program, Nero CDSpeed, to scan all my DVDs. It turned out that most of the last gigabyte of data of a quarter of the DVDs was unreadable. So half the discs are coasters and most of the ones that aren't didn't fill the disc so didn't have the problem with the outer part of the disc being unreadable. Memorex doesn't make their own discs, so you don't know what you'll get. The ones I got are made by CMC and they are junk. I've since bought a spindle of unbranded Ritek DVDs the first six have all burned perfectly. I've read the Memorex used to use Ritek discs, so that's probably were the good reviews are coming from. Stay away from Memorex, it's a crap shoot.

Summary: I Just Bought a Hundred More
Review: I've burned more than 50 of these media and only had one coaster. (Probably my fault)I'm using a Pioneer DVR_A06 with Firmware 1.07 RPC1. The movies I've backed-up are stable until the end.

Summary: Great for the price!
Review: I use a Lite-On DVDRW LDS-451S with DVD Shrink/Nero 6 to make perfect backups of DVD movies. So far I've made over 30 backups (all have been burned @ 4x) and they have all played flawlessly on my Panasonic RP-91 DVD player. I liked them so much I bought 4 more spindles!

Review: Great Buy, Good Price, Good quality No problems

Summary: Memorex 4X DVD-R bad, 4X DVD +R good.
Review: Memorex DVD-R disks are manufactured by a comany named CMC, which has a well-deserved reputation for making horrible blank DVD media. The Memorex ones are no exception. You will have fairly decent success burning these at 2X, but if you try to burn them at 4X, you will get many read errors created on your burned disks. If you are backing up a DVD movie, these errors will probably be ignored by most standalone DVD players, but if you want to make a copy of a copy, most of these read errors will result in the inability to make a copy or your copy.
The Memorex 4X DVD+R disks, on the other hand, are made by Ricoh, which makes very good disks. The Memorex 4x DVD +R disks are very good, and can be successfully burned at 4X.
I have heard rumors recently, however, that Memorex 4X DVD +R disks, are being manufactured by CMC, which means that neither Memorex 4X DVD+R nor DVD-R disks will be any good.
I would avoid the 4X DVD -R disks altogether, and be wary of the DVD +R disks.

Summary: Works great in Sony External 510UL burner
Review: I bought this spindle in December to make some home movies as Christmas presents. I had purchased the DVD+R spindle in November and found my cheapie Memorex DVD player couldn't read it. (Go to dvdrhelp.com and check the database on your player or burner to see what media works.)

As indicated, these Memorex DVD-R's worked flawlessy at 4X burns. I was able to view my home movies on all DVD players in the family whether brand new or 3-5 years old.

Amazon's price is good (a little better over Christmas) and definately better than what you find in local stores.

I'm saving my DVD-R spindle for burning movies and DVD+R for data/computer backups.
