Rating: Summary: Good media if it's from Ricoh Review: I've bought two of these packs in the past month. I didn't have one coaster from the first pack and have not made any yet from the second pack. I just got the second pack on march 15 and it's the same as the first. Rating: Summary: Buy TDK instead Review: For those who worry about the quality of Memorex DVD+Rs, buy TDK. I recently bought a 25-pack 4X and two 20-pack 4X TDK DVD+Rs. They are all made by Ricoh (based on DVD Identifier), and they are very good (no coasters so far). By the way, I had owned some Memorex CD-RW discs and they were bad too.
Rating: Summary: Don't be mislead by Memorex repackaging of bad media Review: Purchased this 25 spindle after many getting several high quality Memorex DVD+4 - 4 X media manufactured by Richoh (media id RICOHJPNR01) from Amazon at the lowest prices available anywhere. Unfortunately Amazon has no control on when Memorex sends them inferior bad media made by various sub contractors. Memorex merely puts their label on media mfg by their many subs. My Feb 2003 purchase of this item turned out to be badly made CMC MAG F01 and not Richoh. Most discs in lot I got have minute cracks, and you can see it was badly pressed all along the rims of the discs. Those CMC which did burn are so poorly manufactured that they can be expected to have very short life due to air and heat easily getting in and causing deterioration of dye. I might as well purchased 80 cent CMC from wholesalers if I wanted junk. Eight coasters out of 25 discs, whereas I have not had one coaster from the Amazon Richoh stuff out of hundreds burned. Moral, if you are going to buy repackaged DVD media from companies which only repackage media, buy small quantities, test and id media mfg of initial purchase with DVDINFOPRO or some other media identifier before you buy in quantity in any given Amazon lot.
Rating: Summary: hey Amazon Review: Hey, Amazon - Why was I "recommended" (on the front page of Amazon.com, once I logged in) such a poorly-reviewed product?
Rating: Summary: stay away Review: This used to be great media until Memorex decided to switch to CMC from Ricoh. Now they are horrible, you're lucky to get 20-30% success rate with these.
Rating: Summary: 50 % of the discs are good Review: Media looks great, but problems start if you want to record something. I just could not close more than 50% of discs. Since DVD recording is not very fast process, 50% of failures is a terrible waste of time. I will never buy any media of Memorex in feature.
Rating: Summary: No Problems Here Review: I have burned 75+ movie backups with these disks on an NEC 1100A using Nero 6 and CloneDVD with a good DVD ripper program which will go un-named to protect the persecuted. I have experienced a Nero glitch which was fixed by reloading the program which was not their fault and an entire package of 2.4x labeled as 4X which was a Memorex fault. They play perfect on our Koss, Samsung, and older Norcent players. These are a great bargain, but as with all bargains you are taking a gamble. If you want the best, get Verbatim and pay more, otherwise these will do. And definately check for compatibility and make sure you and your system can handle the project. Happy Burning.
Rating: Summary: Once were wonderful Review: ...but as another reviewer pointed out, Memorex dumped Ricoh and went to CMC. The Ricoh discs had been top-shelf stuff, I only hope that I have enough of them left to hold me over until the dual-layer and 16x drives come out this summer!
Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware Review: I have a Pioneer DVR106 and burned my first original 50pack spindle with no problems at all. However, it is true that Memorex changed suppliers from Ricoh (quality) to CMC (cheap). My first spindle was Ricoh and not one error. I bought my 2nd spindle from best buy and noticed that the DVDR's had a pinkish metallic color and were a bit thinner than the ones I had before. I used DVD Identifier (which is free, google it) and found them to be the CMC DVDR's. I took them back to best buy (to originally return it) but decided to try exchanging it for another spindle I had saw that had a SLIGHT difference in labeling and a thinner base, but still the same exact "Memorex DVD+R" product. Both the spindles had a black base, but my new spindle's base was not as thick. I thought that maybe, just maybe, it would be the Ricoh made discs. I was right. It seems that the slight difference in packaging (label and base) could clue you into which spindle to buy. Buying from the internet, you'll probably not know which you're going to get. The 100pack spindle that Amazon offers (that says they're Printable) were Ricoh when I bought them last month (january). Don't know if they still are, but probably. The discs have an all white surface, with no lines to write anything. I just draw lines with a pencil and ruler very lightly. *** For the RICOH discs, they're excellent and I have not lost one yet. Very quality DVDR's. I burn at 4x with a Pioneer DVR106. *** For the CMC discs, I cannot really say because not much testing was done with them. I only tried one which proved successful (burned at 4x). It burned fine and played fine. However, rather then face problems that MAY arise, I exchanged them. For all I know they might have been fine, but I am not one for cheap quality. CONCLUSION: I still recommend Memorex, but I give 3stars because of the supplier change (I think that both suppliers are supplying Memorex; you just need to know which to get). RICOH or CMC? Ricoh. Also, I think most users experience difficulty because of not upgrading firmware, computer is not capable of processing the job, trying to do multiple things while a burn is being done, or incorrect configuration. I hope this review helps someone.. -robbie@ evildonut.com
Rating: Summary: Awful discs Review: Don't waste your money on these like I did. I've burned 3 discs so far. They barely play on my dvd player - some of the titles of the dvd are missing. They are unreadable on my computer's dvd drive.
