Rating: Summary: Don't know if the problem is the media, software, hardware.. Review: I'm giving this a very avergae 3 stars because honestly i don't know whether the problems i am having are a result of the media, the hardware, or the software. I am using these Memorex 4x DVD+R discs with my Dell PC which has an NEC ND-1100A burner. The software is DVD X Copy Xpress. I have been successful about 80% of the time, and I can't figure out what's going wrong the other 20% of the time. Usually the software will finish the copy, say "burn successful", and the disc will pop out of the burner ready to go. I think "great, it worked!", but then I try to play it in my DVD player (which has never had a problem reading anything) and the player cannot read the disc. Not even my PC's DVD-ROM drive can read it.So, in summary I don't know which piece of the puzzle is not working. Is it really possible for one brand of DVD+R (Memorex) to work better or worse then another (Fuji or TDK), even if they are the same speed? Too confusing, I tell you. What does one have to do to avoid wasting time and money? Oy vey... If anyone has any tips or pointers feel free to email me at digs5446@hotmail.com. Thanks!
Rating: Summary: Finally, DVD media I can trust and afford. Review: I've owned burners for years and years, and I'm well-acquainted with coasters and bad media and bad drives. My latest incarnation of a Frankenmachine has a Sony internal DVD read/CD burner and an external Sony DRX-500ULX DVD/CD burner. I kicked Roxio's s/w to the curb awhile back and now use Nero's suite of tools almost exclusively. I turned to dvdrhelp.com for some DVD media advice, which led me to some generic DVD-R Optodiscs. Wow, huge waste of money despite reviews saying they burn at 4x with my burner. So, after that spindle of coasters was burnt, I looked again at media, this time for a name brand. Memorex had a run of cheap CDRWs a year ago that were 50% awful, 50% fast. I was reluctant to try them again, but Amazon had a great deal on DVD+Rs and the return policy is generous. Plus, I heard +Rs were generally more compatible... so I ordered the 25-pack. I was burning at 4x, and every disc played in every DVD reader in the house (all Sony equipment). I can safely recommend this media to anyone with Sony equipment, at the very least. It's a joy to be able to burn DVDs at 4x, and not make coasters. Best of all, nobody sells these cheaper than Amazon. A terrific deal. Fred
Rating: Summary: works great- no coasters! Review: this is my 5th stack of these memorex discs. i cant help myself! i have not had a single coaster yet (all burns went well at 4x). i'm using an nec 1100A burner with nero 6.3 and the latest firmware. the media plays in both my set-top players, an old samsung dvd player and a pioneer dv-353. i highly recommend this media.
Rating: Summary: No Longer Good Review: Memorex used to use Ricoh Japan's fine dvd media. It would get absolutely no coasters. Now they switched to CMC, whose dvds retain data almost as well as pancakes would. I suggest you no longer buy their product, for its quality went from flawless to lower than the Maria trench.
Rating: Summary: Unreliable Review: I bought two packs of these, and for some reason, about half of them or maybe one third don't come out well. When you burn it looks like everything went well, and your computer tells you that the burn was successful, but when you play it, the beginning of the film or whatever you are burning comes out good, but about half way through, the dvd player starts jamming up, and I've tried them in other dvd players, not just my Sony, and the same happens. I've tried with different software too, I've had better results with Nero Express, but the same problem occurs. These problems don't happen with HP discs I bought or Verbatim, so the problem must be these discs. I'm just putting this down so as to warn people out there.
Rating: Summary: DVD's so Useless it's Better to Throw Money Away. Buy TDK!! Review: I brought these Memorex DVD's and they are RIPE STINKERS OF THE FIRST ORDER! These DVD's are worthless. I averaged 3 coasters out of 25 disks. TDK Disks are MUCH MUCH BETTER! I genrally like most of the things Amazon sells but AMAZON should be ashamed to offer these nasty crummy useless DVD disks for sale. Worst is that Amazon makes TDK +R disks harder to buy as they did not sell them directly at the time of my last purchase. These disks are just worthless as media intended to preserve your DVD data or images. Words just can not say how bad I think these disks are. If you never listen to another peice of online advice here me now. Save your hard earned money for some really good DVD media Memorex DVD +R disks are not worth the money at any cost. Sometimes dirt cheap is that way for good reasons. These are nasty leave them on the shelf.
Rating: Summary: Great Disks at a Great Price Review: I don't know what planet this guy came from - "Poor quality of Memorex DVD+R, May 12, 2004 Reviewer: An electronics fan from Murfreesboro, TN USA" How can anyone complain about a disk not playing in EVERY player known to man? That review is a joke. I had some Phillips DVDs that did not do well at all in my burner. In fact, I made quite a few coasters with them. Did I bash Phillips? No. I said that it probably had something to do with my machine. Not every disk, burner, and/or player is going to be compatible. I presently have a Kypermedia 8X (Cyberdrive) and Memorex works flawlessly with my machine. The only coasters that I have made with these Memorex 4X dvd+r disks was my fault. I made a few coasters because my software (Nero) defaulted to record at 8X and I did not change it. If reviewers would be honest and not bash the hell out of a product just because it does not suit THEM, we would be much more informed. If you want to bash something, at least let the rest of us know what you are trying to record with - Software, Processor, Burner, etc. As for Memorex, I have no complaints at all. I hope that the quality of disks I have used so far is an indication of future performance. The only worry I have is the dreaded "disk rot". When DVD recording first came about, all we heard was about how long these things were going to last. Now we are starting to see problems with disk rot. I have not noticed any problems with the media that I have used so far. If anyone has a problem, please let the rest of us know - without bashing the hell out of the product if possible (You may have just bought into a bad batch).
Rating: Summary: Poor quality of Memorex DVD+R Review: These blank DVD's by Memorex are not compatiable with all brands of DVD burners. I spent many hours in determing that my problem was not with the hardware or software but with the Memorex DVD disk itself. I now have 25 blank DVDs of no use to me.
Rating: Summary: A Gamble Review: No compatability problems using an NEC 1100A with the latest firmware , but I notice that only the ones that come in the gray colored spindle burn at 4X. I have received two 25 pack spindles that came in a black base spindle and all of the disks burned at 2.4X even though they are labeled as 4X. Memorex must know about this because they are obviously color coded. So the score is 3 stars for the three grey spindles I have purchased that burned at 4X, and no stars for the 2 black spindles that only burned at 2.4X. Do you feel lucky?
Rating: Summary: Very Good. Review: I have been using this media for last one month. So far I dont have any problem in writing. and Plyabak also very good.I would say Memorax DVD+R is worth buying.
