Summary: watermark disks
Review: i have been using memorex 4x dvd-r's for several months. picked up the printable disks and not one out of the 100 could burn right on either my pioneer 106d w/ 1.7 firmwear or my tdk burner. the disks would come out watermarked. lighter on the inside and darker on the outside. when i tried to burn them at 1x the watermark would not be as noticabe but half the disk would come up unreadable.

Summary: Not compatible with Pioneer DVR's
Review: Unbeknownst to this purchaser when this spindle arrives, there is a little note on top saying the product may cause damage to certain models of Pioneer computer and component DVRs. A fix is available but even though my model was not listed and I CONFIRMED with Pioneer that they were to work on my model, no dice. It damaged the DVR recorder, thankfully not irreperably.

Buy TDK or Sony.

Summary: Problems at first and then issue resolved
Review: The first three I burnt ended up as coasters and I couldn't figure out what was going on as I had used Memorex 4x media in the past with no problem.\

After reading the review by "Darkman 1969", I also updated the firmware for my DVD burner (per his advice) and have had no problems since with this media.

Summary: Had Serious Problems
Review: I've been using Memorex 4x dvd-r for a month in my Sansui vcr/dvd combo recorder and had no problems. So when I found the spindle for the Memorex 4x dvd-r with the printable surface for a great deal I thought it was going to be perfect because my inkjet printer is set up to print on discs.

However I did not get a single one of these dvds to burn in my dvd recorder. I tried 7 times and made 7 coasters. It would record fine and then not read the disc after I pressed stop. I knew it couldn't be the speed of the disc because I haven't had any previous problems with any brands. I gave them to my friend to try in his burner on his computer and they worked fine for him - so that is why I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1. I called the help number that came with the discs because they mention a problem with Pioneer burners and these discs and I had heard a rumor that my Sansui actually had a Pioneer burner inside but the help person disagreed and couldn't help me out.

Everyone has agreed it has to do with the reflective surface and the fact that these are printable. I would not buy these discs even though they might be a great deal. Especially since you cannot return them. I have had no problems with any other disc from any brand including Memorex. Avoid the printable dvds in my opinion.

Summary: Pretty reliable media
Review: Well, I was 2 weeks into my burning with my new LiteOn DVD-RW drive when I came across these at my local store. I had been using Maxell DVD-R previous to these without any problems, and these came on a spindle and were a better value.

At first, I couldn't get anything to burn right on these things. My burning software (RecordNow)was having a heck of a time burning them correctly. I was about to give up when I was directed to a firmware update for my DVD drive. Once I flashed the drive, not a single bad disk has been wasted!

The key for me on this media is that if you are backing up your video's, they only work for me if I create an image (.iso) file first and then burn that file. For whatever reason, I can't get any of my DVD players to recognize the disk if I don't do it that way. Not a big deal really, and I wonder if it is more my drives issue rather than the media itself.

Overall, the price is good and I have not had a problem since I updated my firmware. If you do experience problems with them, be sure to check your firmware version first.

Summary: Ignore the reviews and try for yourself
Review: I got a spindle of these for movies, home and backups. Out of 10, about 5 were coasters. Not bad for less than $1 a piece.

I use a Sony DRU510UL external burner with an AMD laptop. Works fine most of the time.

I don't have a printer to do direct prints but appreciate the white space to make my homemade Sharpie markings.

Summary: Great Buy
Review: I can't figure out why everyone else is having such a hard time with these discs, I've ordered 400 memorex printable discs in the last 2 months and not a single coaster. Of course I'm, using a sony dru530 with updated firmware. I couldnt be happier with this media, i just hope memorex's 8x dvd-r are as good of quality

Summary: Best deal around !!
Review: Burned over 60 of these disc...every one worked fine. My Lite-on burns at 4x and Nec burns them at 6x without a coaster yet...

Rem: Your media is only as good as your hardware.

Summary: Good product, good service, but poor packaging
Review: The discs are in good quality and reliable. Shipping is quick. The whole transaction went smothly. My only displeasure is packaging. The spindle DVD disc pack was placed inside a carton box stuffed with airbags. Airbags deflated. Discs are thrown all over in the container. It happened two out of two shippings.

Summary: Works great for me
Review: I don't normally write reviews, but since so many people had trouble burning with these, I'll note that my Asus DRW-0402P has had no problem burning these at 4x. And the printed labels look quite nice, too (I use an Epson R200).
