Summary: Rugged as they get!
Review: I have owned both this unit and Sony's equivalent. Panasonic blows Sony out of the water. Not only does this have 20 pre-sets, it has a bass boost that is outstanding, it's very small, and it is extremely rugged. One of the things that I hate are battery covers that are not secured to the unit. Sony has this, but Panasonic secures the cover, so no matter if it's on your arm or in a bag, you don't have to worry about the cover coming off. The Sony unit's cover is very susceptible to falling off. I thought the metal cover was just a [inexpensive] plate to make it look cool, but the unit is really very durable, in part because of this cover. Its reception is impeccable. The downside is, the armband is not quite large enough for some arms. The headphones are not the best... Sony vs. Panasonic? Panasonic wins by KO.

Summary: Great Portable Radio
Review: I just bought the Panasonic Shockwave to replace an Aiwa headphone-style digital AM/FM Stereo. Before the Aiwa I had a Koss brand. The Panasonic armband-style Shockwave is very superior to the two headphone-style units I've used. Specifically: 1) The fidelity is much greater - clean and powerful; 2) The unit stays in place, unlike the headphone-style, which always needs readjusting (during Sunday jogs); 3) The reception in obstructed areas is better - probably due to the much longer antenna (headphone cord vs. short, rigid antenna.

I chose this Panasonic over the ubiquitous Sony brand because it offers twice as many station presets. All in all, a high quality package that easily meets all the goals it sets out to achieve.

Summary: Great reception
Review: I live in a radio "dead zone" as far as reception goes, in northern NJ. I'm very impressed by the sensitivity of this radio, and selectivity is better than average for the price. AM reception is slightly better than my home stereo which has an external antenna, and FM reception rivals the same stereo which is connected to a TV antenna on the roof for FM. I receive most of the same NYC stations on the Panasonic as with the home stereo. It's a shame the headphones are so, well, painful, because they have decent sound and provide a good antenna match for the unit for FM.

I was looking for a radio to take to work that wouldn't be too obtrusive, and this one is perfect. I wasn't sold on the arm-band concept at first, but turns out it's great, you'll forget you're wearing it. Much better than a walkman with a belt clip. Highly recommended, but plan to replace the headphones.

Summary: Great Radio!
Review: I love this radio. It is great to use when working out, whether you actually use the arm band on your arm or to attach it to the machine you're using.

Positives: 10 FM Stations!!!! This was one of the few armband radios that I could actually find that would allow me to program more than 5 FM stations. It also allows for 10 AM stations, which I could never in a million years fill. Reception is good, features are good (Hold is feature that I like, that forces the radio to keep its settings no matter what buttons are pressed - keeps the radio from being accidentally turned on in a gym bag). The radio is lightweight and compact and batteries seem to last quite some time.

Negatives: Headphones are uncomfortable. No worries, I'll buy new ones. Reception is good but not great. If you're moving around, you sometimes lose reception a little too easily. Moving between preset bands (1 & 2) is a little difficult.

Summary: Not worth it.
Review: I thought it would be the perfect for the gym. Little did I know that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The arm piece broke the second day, the reception on the radio was not very good and the head set did not fit properly. It's a great looking radio and very light in weight, but what good is it if it doesn't work. I often found times when a little tap would turn it on or off. Don't waste your money on this. PLEASE!

Summary: Excercise buddy
Review: If you are a gym junkie and always in need of some tunes during the workout, then this bad boy is for you. Gets wonderful reception, long lasting on batteries, and fits snugly around your arm. A great item for the gym bag.
