Rating: Summary: Sup-R-Adio Review: I've known about this radio since hearing ads ON the radio since 1998. For over 20 years my main AM radio has been a Radio Shack long-range TRF circuit portable. It's taken me all these years, but after buying 2 Sangean handheld radios, I decided to finally "splurge" and get the ultimate! I exepct alot from radios, and I'm extremely picky, but I'm not disappointed and it DOES out-perform the aforementioned Radio Shack. The overall performance is excellent. The sound quality is better than I expected for music and FM. The AM reception has lived up to its reputation, except for one thing... and this is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I live five (5) miles from a 50kw transmitter on AM-1540. That signal starts bleeding at 1490!!! and ends about 1570!! I have a 1kw 1490 tower about 12 miles away that is tricky to receive, due to the 1540 signal. My tiny Sangean 210, receives LESS bleed from 1540 than the CC Radio, and receives 1490 perfectly! Perhaps it's the power of the CC... and generally, its selectivity is excellent... but this particular scenario has me puzzled. I'm actually CLOSER to a 50kw signal on 810, which has far less bleed than 1540! This issue aside, the radio is great. It's easy to use and set-up. The controls are very functional, although I wish it had separate buttons for each band. The FM reception is very good, in addition to the WX band and TV audio. Bottom line; for the AM enthusiast, and for anyone who wants a quality radio....YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!
Rating: Summary: Good for AM DX Review: It pulls in AM radio almost as well as the famous Panasonic RF-2200 and Sony ICF-2010 shortwave radios. That's realy sayin' something.
If you are into tuning around the AM dial to see what you can pick up,or are looking to listen to something other than the standard
mindless propaganda that's on 75% of the dial now: This is the radio for you.The FM is ok.THe TV band dosen't have the nasty high pitched
ring that most radios do,a welcome change indeed.Another nice touch is the rod antenna. It's not the usuall
flop-over-have to-tighten -the screw-all-of-the-time type, insted it's the old pull-up type with the swivel on the end if you pull it all
the way out.The radio is very easy to operate for the blind, with very easy to find and use controls and different "beeps" for each band selected.
No more rude wake ups if you use it for an alarm clock. It dosn't blast you out of bed.How cool is that?! Nice slow build up of the alarm volume
is quite kind....It'can't all be good, can it?....well...no.I don't like the handle where it is (on the back of the radio). They could have used a better
fullrange speaker instead of the midrange one used for better voice reproduction. It has bass and treble controlls(YESSS!) that could have been used for
enhancing voice tones,so I don't understand why the midrange speaker was used.Don't get me wrong though: the sound is still good.I thik the G.E. "Superadio"
sounds better, though. It sounds downright awesome with a good set of 'phones( yes, it has FM stereo). All in all? The "best AM radio"? Not quite. How does it compaire to a GE Superadio?
It's a little bit better at pulling in weak stations than the first two Superadios ,but not quite as selective. Not the absolute best, but what it does it does very well...8)
Rating: Summary: Rip off Review: This radio is advertised as one of the best around. I fell for the hype and I want to warn you that it is full of flaws. 1) reception was no better than my small Sony radios. 2) The sound is supposedly balanced for talk radio. To me, it sounds muffled (as if everyone is talking out of a cave) with few highs. Yuck. 3) There is no handle, just a grab indentation. A radio this big is sure to drop with nothing to hold onto. Yes, they do sell a carry case - one that makes the whole thing as ugly as can be. 4) The buttons have to be pushed down hard to change. An individual defect on the one I got? Who knows? 5) This is very expensive for a whole lot of nothing. Don't be taken in. Get a Grundig field radio or a Sony instead. I regret my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Radio - Fast Delivery Review: Wow. What a radio !! Great sound and a little bigger that I thought. But the features make it an easy radio to operate and everything is clearly labeled. Amazon had it delivered in less than a week. Way to go Amazon.
