Summary: Tecsun BCL/2000 and Grundig s350
Review: Don't believe the reviewer above. This radio is nearly identical, to the Tecsun BCL/2000. Tecsun has revised the design in the last few months. Tweaked it and removed all the bugs. It is now just as good if not better than the s350. You'll love either radio. My Tecsun is actually a little more sensitive than my Grundig s350....but it may be unit to unit variations. In any case you'll love which ever model you buy. They are both fantastic radios. And I am comparing it to say a Grundig YB400 fully modded, DX-394 fully modded, and DX-160 modded. For a broadcast Shortwave receiver its tops in its price class under either name.

Summary: A strong caution
Review: Don't let aesthetics fool you. Whether you're new to shortwave or a veteran listener, avoid this radio. I liken it to a moderately attractive girl who turns out be insipid the moment she opens her mouth. This radio has none of the features normally associated with modern shortwave radios (e.g., memory presets) and I experienced annoying signal drift that required me to continually re-tune the radio (what you'd expect if you put a digital tuner on an analog tuned radio.) If you're looking for a great shortwave in this price range, check out the Grundig 400. See . . . I'm not prejudiced against Grundig, just against the radio that turned out to be such a tremendous disappointment last Christmas morning after weeks of anticipation.

Summary: Great Radio
Review: First I will say that I am new to all this radio stuff. I am kind of a "Techno Geek" and I heard a report on NPR about the Shortwave Number Stations a few months back. My wife asked what I wanted for Christmas and I gave her a short list with a shortwave radio on the list. Well Christmas morning I opend up a new Grundig S350 from Radio Shack and boy am I happy. It's a recent build with the defeat for the 90 minute sleep timer. The radio is very easy to operate and the manual is very simple and informative. There is an RF Gain control that comes in very handy with AM and Shortwave reception and the narrow / wide switch also helps finding weak stations. The AM & FM reception are excellent. The radio pulls in distant AM stations clearly and the sound on FM with the mono speaker is very good that will fill a room and there are Stereo Line Out RCA Jacks to connect to your high powered stereo. The Shortwave reception is everything I wanted. The second Channel I tuned in was a Spanish Language Number Station. I have listened to all the big SW Stations (VOA, BBC, Radio Havana etc)and 100's of smaller ones. After 3 weeks of listening I now have the hang of shortwave listening. The tuner does "drift" just a little on Shortwave and AM but after about 15 or 20 minutes of operation it all but goes away. After 50+ hours of operation the battery indicator is still on full. The radio comes with an AC Adapter but I haven't even plugged it in yet and I may not ever use it. I don't have experience with other brands but if you want an excellent all around AM/FM radio with the added bonus of SW and an easy to use analog tuner with digital readout the Grundig S350 is well worth a look.

Summary: Excellent Value
Review: For the price this is one of the best - if not the best - AM/FM Portable Radios I have ever owned. Excellent sound quality. Will pull in weak stations very well. Very user friendly. Knobs well placed and easy to use. Digital tuning format is excellent.

I run it on batteries which allow me to move the radio to where I need to to get a better signal. Works very well. Long battery life.

Summary: What a surprise ! Nice radio from Grundig
Review: Hello everyone its Vince the radio man. I have been a radio buff for many many years . I have a vast collection a ndlove to do compares . Grundigs quality and ideas has been less than good in the past many years . HOWEVER , I was shocked and surprised when I purchased this radio . First of all the price is fabulous . Can't understand how they are making money on this , the design and the concept is wonderful . Its the Grundig "Field" radio . It is an analog radio with a digital read out . Built very solidly for the outdoorsman . It has a great built in speaker with separate bass and treble controls . It has a low noise filter and other controls that make DXing a pleasure . I have gotten Europe ( Deutchevelle ) on 855kh AM with this radio and the Terk AM advantage antenna from my home in N.Y.C. ..... I have only been able to do that with professional rigs . This is the best radio that Grundig has on the market today . The only knock and the reason for not giving this 5 stars is that , believe it or not , the FM section of all things is a little weak. For AM Dxers this is the HOLY GRAIL OF RADIOS . BUY IT !

Summary: Great Radio except for sleep timer function
Review: I bought this radio a couple of months ago to use on job sites. I'm often in areas where I find it difficult to receive my favortite FM (or AM) stations. The S350 is a terrific radio in this regard. It has great reception, very good sound and is easy on batteries -- I haven't had to change them in 3 months.

HOWEVER. This radio has a "sleep timer" function which seems to be impossible to override. When the radio is turned on, it will only STAY on for a maximum of 90 minutes. So, in the middle of an interesting interview, or when I am up on a ladder, it will turn itself off. There seems to be no way to keep this radio on until you want to turn it off. VERY annoying. What were the designers thinking?

**Update 4/27/04: Grundig Radio informs me that S350 models produced after serial #S35030415423 will bypass the sleep timer if the power button is held down for 3 seconds when turning the radio on.

Summary: Pleased
Review: I bought this radio hoping I'd get better AM reception at my workplace (very bad listening conditions). It was a slight improvement over the GE Super radio III, under poor listening conditions. Under normal listening conditions I definately see much better reception of weaker signals. I'm pleased with its performance. It seems to be a little more delicate than the GE, so I will keep this baby at home and the GE at work.

Summary: Great radio!
Review: I love this radio. I fell in love with it because of the unique retro-military analog design - all of those analog dials! The sound is big and full. Am reception is strong - I could detect no difference between this and the GE Superadio. Shortwave: I only bother with BBC and Voice of America (VOA), and Radio Canada and they all come in great. If you are a shortwave fanatic who tries to get third world countries in, I have no idea how it will do as I have no interest in that. FM is very good. It has a sleep timer, alarm, clock, BIG numeric LCD display and bright back light.. The handle is comfortable. I also have a Yacht Boy from Grundig but that is only because this is too big to slip into my briefcase. If I could, I would take this with me everywhere! My favorite radio!

Summary: great AM reception
Review: I needed a radio with good AM reception for my office and this radio has worked great. The reception is better than I got with my Sony receiver and external loop antenna. Station presets would be nice, but the tuner is very easy to adjust.

Summary: Great radio, great reception!
Review: I received the S350 as a Christmas present and I love it. I am new to shortwave and I am really impressed. The reception is excellent. Living in the Northeast, I have been able to receive stations from places like China, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and even Cuba. There are so many interesting stations to listen to, I haven't had time to try them all.

The display is large and crisp. The ability to control bass/treble separately is a nice touch. One of my favorite aspects of this model is the look and feel. It's got that old school, WWII look (digital display aside) and it feels like it's very well made.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone seeking a quality, portable shortwave.
