Summary: OK model - small problem
Review: I purchased this model even after reading the review by daes2001 regarding the sound distortion. I didn't notice anything, and then a couple of days after I purchased the unit, the AVLS accidentally got turned on. Yikes! It sounded like the unit was being played underwater. The distortion is terrible! My advice is to buy this model if you are not concerned about the volume limiting feature; otherwise, I found it to be very well designed.

Summary: d-fs601 shuts off all by itself even the radio
Review: I would not recommend this cd player to anyone. Towards the end of the 90 day warranty the player began to turn itself off, all by itself when jogging. This happens with the cd player or the radio. The Sony product support was no help. They suggested the anti-skip setting should be changed but how does that effect the radio? They finally agreed to look at it if I sent it to them at my cost. The next day I could not reproduce the problem. However, every 2-3 months the problem returns for a few days and then stops. I have had other much less expensive players from other manufacturers that performed much better. Also, the buttons to adjust the tuner are very difficult to use while jogging.

Summary: Best discman I've owned.
Review: I've always been fond of Sony's discmen in comparison to similar products made by other companies, and this particular one has been the best I've used by far.

The sound quality is great, with plenty of bass boost (two levels). The radio, weatherbands and TV bands also sound great (when reception is good, of course, as with any radio device) - this discman seems to pick up reception a bit better than other devices I've owned in the past. The only problem I've ever had with sound is with certain CD-R's - I haven't narrowed it down to a brand, but sometimes a CD-R will start sounding fuzzy or muddy. The problem clears up once I stop the cd and resume play - my only negative comment for this discman.

Aside from sound, I LOVE the ergonomics of this discman. I love the thumb control; when used in conjunction with the hand strap, it works beautifully for single-handed control of the discman, for both volume and CD control (i.e. stopping, track FF, etc). the hand strap is also better designed than in previous models so the whole thing fits in your hand better and is a lot easier to adjust since it's made of a fabric rather than rubber.

One thing some folks may not like is the lack of a pause button seperate from the stop button. The stop function acts as a pause in that the discman remembers your place in the middle of a song, so it shuts down the discman, saving battery life, and as long as you don't open the discman, will resume playing right where you left off. But if you're pausing a lot and resuming play, it takes a second to start back up once you've stopped rather than continuing immediately. Me, I don't mind, but I suppose it could be annoying to some people.

Lastly, the skip protection - I nearly forgot about it because it seems skipping CDs have become a thing of the past, including with this discman.

Summary: So different, yet so cool!
Review: If you're a person of style, you will absolutely adore this CD player! It comes with so many features worth every single penny. First, it has FM/AM radio, Weatherband, and TV channels. The design is impeccable, but it is a smidge confusing to figure out all the controls at first. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to go on to the next song. (There is a stick in the top right hand corner that you flick that changes the songs) The headphones are a little small and they fall off very easily, but replacing them doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The CD player is also very lightweight and perfect for the active teenagers/adults always on the go with their music. It comes with a wristband and it doesn't eat batteries!

Summary: Great product
Review: Put simply, this CD player is the [greatest] . The anti-skip protection on this product is CHOICE, if I may say so. I am not partial to the included headphones, so I ran out and got the Sony ones that go behind your head, and the earphone part is that big silver disk.. you know what I mean.

Truth be told, this CD player is a little big. What with tiny little MP3 players out and such, this gadget just seems out-of-date, despite its cool outter appearance. I'm willing to accept its girth and roll with it, because in the end it's very well-worth your hard-earned cashola. The sound is great, never skips, etc etc.

BUY IT

Review: Stopped working within days. SONY product support is useless. It's now an expensive paper weight. Buy something else.

Summary: Good walkman, earphones not the greatest
Review: The Sony D-FS601 is a good walkman. It's a really durable. I'm a klutz and I've dropped it and such and it still works fine. The radio receoption is great and you can program your favorite radio stations. CDs play great on this walkman. The controls are all really great to use. The only problem is that of the earphones. They're sort of oddly shapped and feel somewhat akward in you ears. Other then that, it's great.

Summary: I'm a Klutz
Review: This CD player is nearly indestructible. I am a major klutz, and have broken several portable CD players because I tend to drop them while exercising, or even just sitting down somewhere listening to music. Even though I have dropped this a few times already, it is still flawless. The hand band velcros to secure tightly to my hand, while my fingers are still in the right places to change the CD track and volume.

The radio works great. The TV channels work as well as would be expected from a portable CD player. I tried listening to TV in a Bally's, and it didn't work. But the channels usually work in the car. I have yet to get the weather band to work, but that is not a reason that I bought the CD player, so it doesn't bother me.

Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!!
Review: This is the ultimate portable CD player. Genius design.

For CD play, this gadget uses G-Protection anti-skip technology. I have yet to hear a skip while doing any activity. There are two settings: Low for better sound and high for better skip protection. Personally, I cannot detect a difference.

This thing even has FM and AM! And it works as well as I anticipated it should. Presets galore.

Going beyond radio, Sony stuffed in weather band. Just hit the WB button and you have 7 channels of weather band. This is great for traveling.

Going beyond weather band, TV signals can be picked up with this thing! Just hit the TV button and you can hear 12 channels (2-13) of television! Now you can hear the audio of your favorite show from anywhere.

Sony combines a CD player, AM FM receiver, weather band, and television audio receiver all in one. If you were to purchase all these devices separately, you would pay hundreds!

Included is the usual features such as the hold switch, volume, headphone jack, etc...
No line-out port, but those are unnecessary anyway.

But Sony didn't stop there. This bad boy is water resistant - having a rubber seal going all around. Combined with the metal latch, this is perfect for jogging. The lid is not going to open accidentally like with other players. All the openings (phone jack and power) have rubber coverings, making it completely sealed.

This thing kicks out major bass. With 3 settings, it's more intense than with other players I've owned.

Probably the best thing I like about this is the hand strap on the back. You can slip your hand in and go for a walk without worrying about it falling out of your pocket.

While it's on your hand, your thumb is right next to the joystick, which can be easily moved to change tracks or turn on/off the unit.

Now you may notice the absence of a "resume" setting. This unit has an automatic resume feature. Turn it off and it starts right where you ended when turned on, unless, of course, you open it.

Included are small headphones that fit right in the ear. I don't like them. I don't know why Sony put them in. They have ok sound, and they don't stay on the head very well. But you will never buy a CD player that comes with decent headphones. It's like the law of electronics. Buy the S2 headphones that go behind your head. The style matches the player and they sound great.

This is also great for the kids for those long trips. With so many features and receiving capabilities, it will keep them occupied for hours. Battery life is very long and the unit is built with sturdy construction.

It may be a bit pricey, but who cares. Buy it. I love it, you will too.
