Review: I am totally impresed with this scanner. I was scanning 35mm film with an Epson 2450. What a difference! More latitude in the tonal range. Very sharp, Scanner has auto and manual focus. Professional driver software. Images consistant in color from scan to scan.
Have not used the dust remove feature yet. So far all my negs and trans are flawless. Even thou it is only 3200 dpi, if you know photoshop, the quality of the scans are so good I have no problems enlarging to 36x24 poster. I did a test and enalrged in the computer to 100 inches and just checking it out on the monitor it still held together NO PROBLEMS!
Have had the scanner for about a month and use it everyday and have had no start up problems or any other sort of problems, yet. But then again I use a MAC. Read the instruction manual before you do anything!
Anyway, well worth the $270 I spent !

Summary: Didn't work
Review: I believe that the scanner that I received was defective. The software that shipped with the device wouldn't recognize it. It also seems like the scanner would lock up during set up, then power itself down and would not come back on without unplugging/replugging.
Returning for replacement/refulnd.

Summary: Only scanner I've used but very happy for the price
Review: I bought this scanner for my photography projects. I just installed it yesterday and the B&W negatives I scanned were great quality and everything went quickly. I had no problems installing it. The color negatives however will need lots of adjustments it looks like. I only scanned one and it was really bad...I haven't installed any additional software yet to make adjustments.

Summary: might want to consider Minolat 5400 instead
Review: I got mine yesterday. I made a few scans. The biggest concern I have is that they are not really sharp. I think the 5400 focus button is of great value here, and seems like a fast solution to get scans in focus. I decided against the 5400 because I read so much about the "green lines" problem and the higher price tag. Now my unit is defect as well. 2/3 of the slide is in normal color while 1/3 of the same slide is in different color ( this was for all slides and all scans ). So I am going to return it and try the 5400. Finally about the comments below with the blinking green light. I cannot say for sure but this might be an operator error. The scanner needs to be booted like a computer. It boots when you start the scan utility and only then you can scan. That being said mine is defective as well so it might not be the best model on the market. There was a time when people did QA.......

Summary: Dead on arrival
Review: I had high hopes for this unit. I received it, set it up, then realized it was a dying unit. It gave up the ghost after barely making one scan. (would no longer power on).I am going to take a gamble on it and have it exchanged. I'll write back again with my impressions of the second one. But my impression of my *first* Dual Scan IV are obviously poor.

Summary: No problems with Windows XP - Works Great!
Review: I installed this scanner with Windows XP - I have scanned several hundred slides with NO PROBLEM! It works great! Great value - though would be nice to have a second cartridge for slides as to have one already 'loaded' to speed up conversion time.

Review: I made my first scans with this scanner and I'm very satisfied.
Quality of scans is very good (if you used good film).
Negative and slide film scans very good.
Kodachrome tends to scan a little bit dark, and when using exposure compesation you loose a little bit of detail (I just took a couple of rolls of Kodachrome, so this is no problem for me)
Resolution should be enough for most applications. Beyond this you will most likely start to notice film grain.
Great value for the price.

Summary: Superb scanner at great price!
Review: I shopped for a film/slide scanner at a reasonable price, comparing online and magazine reviews of several available. On balance, this scanner had the best features, specs, price and good performance history (prior versions II and III). I am advanced amateur photo enthusiast needing to convert slides to digital images. I have an Epson 3170 flatbed, which is great for old print photos but doesn't produce good images on slides despite some hyping in a couple of reviews that it does. The Minolta Dual Scan IV looks professional, feels substantial, is easy to set up, its software is easy to follow (more advanced components require spending some time learning the subtleties), and the slide and film holders are well made and engage in the travel mechanism very well. Images produced are outstanding - easily allowing you make 8.5 x 11 high quality prints (I use a Canon i960 printer). I am very impressed and totally satisfied. Some improvements were made in model IV, that take care of a few criticisms made about model III. USB 2 connect makes data transfer fast. This is great performance and value for the money.

Summary: Great Product for the Price
Review: I was looking for a slide scanner that would allow me to put 20 years worth of slides into a digital format with little loss of image quality. The DiMage IV delivers. The Dimage IV comes with its own scanning software, a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and uses a USB connection to connect to the computer. Of particular interest for me was the 4 slide batch feeder. When used in combination with the applicable piece of software, it's fairly easy to load four slides, start the software and do something else while the scanner is processing the slides. I'm running Windows XP and encountered absolutely no technical problems with this scanner, despite also having a flatbed scanner and printer installed.
The image quality is far superior to that available using a slide adaptor on a flatbed document scanner and Photoshop Elements is really helpful in cleaning up lighting and color problems which appeared on the original slide. On a couple of my slides which had heavy shadows, I was able to pick out details that I didn't know were there when I used Photoshop Elements to adjust color and contrast. A great buy for the non-professional looking for a way to transition a slide collection to a digital medium.
