Summary: Fair multifunction performance
Review: Performance from this multifunction Officejet is inconsistent. Maybe its just me but it tends to mangle envelopes when attempting to print, is a temperamental fax machine and it requires rebooting (shut down the unit, wait 10 seconds and boot back up)once or twice a month. Unit is also extremely noisy. On the upside, Unit prints and copies consistently well and the plug-in flash card feature for printing photos is quite handy. I suggest demoing competitive models before deciding on this Officejet model.

Summary: It worked for 60 days! >:-(
Review: Pros: Excellent features and physical layout. Cons: Software has strange quirks and it died after 60 days. Not happy! The Bottom Line: I would recommend this unit if HP stood behind it. Replacing it with a refurbished unit after 60 days of very light use is ludicrous. Recommended: No I bought this unit, the 250 sheet tray and a 3 year warranty which promised next day replacement if the unit failed. On the positive side, I was highly impressed with this all-in-one, the features and physical layout are excellent and it works well with my telephone system. On the down side; just short of 60 days of ownership and I come home to find every damn light on the thing blinking like crazy and it telling me to turn it off and then on. After reading all of HP's technical docs, I call them and in 5 minutes they arrange to replace it with a refurbished unit. Their excuse: the product is so new that's all they have and on top of that there's a backlog and I'll have to wait 7 days to get the replacement. Clearly they shipped a defective product and people are returning them like tickets to a bad movie. I'd wait a few months until they fix the bugs. I'm a very unhappy customer, too bad because my job requires me to purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars in IT hardware every year and I have an excellent memory.

Summary: A true workhorse inkjet multifunction ... finally.
Review: The d135, d145 and d155 share a common printing engine with Hewlett-Packard's high volume business inkjet series of printers, and yet this multifunction machine comes in at similar cost. The built-in card reader is only so-so, lacking the features to transfer any data but photos that a full-blown CF/SM/MS reader would carry, but it is convienient. What this does offer, and the reason this was purchased over the less pricy d135, is both full duplex printing and scanning and copying. For printing out documents several hundred pages in length, it's a great money saver to be able to do double sided. In addition, this printer is unique among all other standard sized inkjets available in that it uses the thermal self-cleaning inkjet technology, not utilized by Epson or Cannon, who use vacuum inkjet which is prone to clogging, that uses seperate ink cartridges and print heads. This lowers the overall cost of running the machine, as well as reducing or eleminating the color ink wastage usually assocated with multi-color cartriges. I've had this machine for six months, have already run over 5,000 pages in sharp inkjet with color graphics, and by now this machine has already paid for itself over doing a similar volume with any other inkjet printing engine available. While it's not a laser, in a small volume situation this could easily eleminate the need for a laser printer.

Summary: Not ready for Prime Time
Review: The HP d145 is a new product that I took a chance on. I had it for one evening most of which I spent on the computer with HP on-line support. There were problems initializing the machine after the printhead and print cartridges were installed which required a "secret code", only known by HP, to unlock The install documentation is abysmal. The final straw was when I finally got it hooked up and the FAX didn't work. After another hour on the support line, the tech support person said that I needed to make an appointment with an HP service person. I will be returning it to Staples tomorrow for a refund. My biggest concern is not these problems but the idea that my business would be without a copier, a printer, and a FAX if anything at all goes wrong with this kind of unit. Buyer beware. Certainly not worth the risk.

Summary: It really should get 4 1/2 Stars in my book (updated)
Review: The Officejet d145 is the second multifunction HP I've had, the first being a g85 series. Having it all together is a great feature, and the d145 has one over my previous multifunction in that it has slots for my digital camera memory cards (thin, thick and even the memory stick). And, what's terrific is that when you insert your camera's memory card into the d145, it asks you if you want to upload the pictures. When you press "1" for yes, it creates a folder in "My Pictures" for the particular months the pictures were taken and uploads them. The print quality is as good as my photosmart printers, which is terrific! Faxing and copying are effortless, with fax numbers taken from Outlook and other address books. The d145 would have gotten a 5 Star rating from me had the scanning software been as easy to use as what came with the g-series multifunction I had. When you scanned with the other, it asked you what you wanted to send the scanned article to (Word, Wordperfect, PaintShop Pro, etc.), with the d145 you have to establish the applications that it will scan to. This may not be a problem with other buyers, and once I learned I needed to do it, it presented no problem. One last item, I have an unbelievable number of items hooked-up to the computer that has the d145, so many that I use two USB routers to expand the number of USB ports. I've noticed that some items, such as my PDA desktop cradle, caused my d145 to go slightly haywire with the LED's flashing. Making sure both did not share the same USB expansion router solved the problem. Overall, the d145 is the best multifunction printer, copier, fax, scanner, I've every had, and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting the best of all worlds. UPDATE: I recently purchased an HP Camera for my Step-Daughter (Photosmart 720) and one for myself (Photosmart 850). Both use the little SD memory cards. The d145 I purchased only a couple of months ago does not have an SD slot. So make sure your camera's memory is compatible with the slots on the d145.

Summary: No 800 Phone support
Review: The other reviews did not mention these problems. There is no 800 Phone support from HP. After being left on hold for over 30 minutes it became obvious that HP was not going to support help me on the instalation problem I was having, the Ink Carriage would not center for loading of ink. Three hours to install a printer! There was no documentation that stated that you cannot write to the Memory Card. To get high quality scans you must run a seperatre program. Both were key reasons for buying this product. Also, to network this printer or to use parallal cable requires very expesive attachment. Still looking at the other features work, but will probably return this by the end of the week.

Summary: Works wonderfully with XP!
Review: This all-in-one has definitely met my expectations in all 4 of its functions. It does exactly what it says its going to do and fits very nicely in a home office environment. I think that maybe some of the negative reviews here may have been due to the customers expecting a machine that will run copies, fax documents, print photos, and scan as fast as their nearest Kinko's Copies. If that is what you are expecting, then go to Kinko's Copies (or to your office job) to get your print/fax/copy/scan job done. As far as I'm concerned, the resolution on this machine is fabulous-even in "normal" mode, and it does a lot for such a compact piece of equipment. You can use the HP's software or Xp's "camera & scanner wizard" to scan documents and images. It does it all very cleanly and intuitively. Oh, and it does automatic double-sided printing if you set it to do so (i.e. go to "File" in toolbar, scroll to "Print",click on "preferences", click on "features" tab, check "double-sided printing" box), which is a great (and hassle-free) way to save paper! It also beats having to drive to Kinko's or go to work when I need access to a fax machine or scanner. This is my first HP as well as "all-in-one" purchase, and I am impressed.

Summary: HP d145 just in and great
Review: This hard to find new all-in-one printer scanner fax copier meets all my needs and has one benifet over the Canon F50. I reviewed and looked over both. The Canon F50 is a bit more attactive but even though it has a wide flat bed scanner it will only scan letter size flat bed documents. The HP d145 has a legal size flat bed scanner. I need the legal size copier for real estate work so I went with the HP. They will both copy or fax legal through the automatic feed tray. The paper feeder wheels are wider on the HP. Reviews indicate the HP software does not dominate the operating system software as much as the Canon does. I like that. If more attractive and not such a dark color it would get five stars from me. The HP d145 installation CD should be Version 3.0 not Version 1.0 as was packed with some units.

Summary: danger will robinson!!!!
Review: this is a terrible machine. it is the noisiest piece of equipment we have ever purchased. it eats toner. it feeds paper 2, 3, 4 or more pieces at a time, especially if copying on reverse side. it goes thru so many motions to print one copy that you almost forget what you were there for. when working from computer it reduces copy to one tiny corner of paper for no reason, in the middle of a run. it is a piece of junk and we will replace it as soon as we can get over the 500 bucks we were ripped off. the only guarantee we can give is that we will NEVER buy an hp item again!

Summary: The First Truly Great Multifunction Printer
Review: This is the second MF printer I have owned, and it supassed my wildest dreams. The printing quality is very high in both color and B&W. The copier and fax capabilites are very simple to use. And the HP software is very easy to scan in pictures. Even the ink cartridges are reasonably prices ... Setup was a breeze with the USB connection. I set it up in under 15 minutes. I would highly recommend this printer for some one looking for a all-in one machine. While it might be a little expensive, the quality is very high.
