Summary: Terrible with Win2000/XP
Review: 1- Doesn't work with Win2000/XP
2- Umax tells you to BUY (!) their driver for Win2000/XP (not downloadable)
3- Even with the appropriate driver, the Umax 2200 still doesn't work.
... Very frustrating. Terrible support/brand. Do not touch UMAX with a 10 foot poll!

Summary: Good photo scanner-bad with negatives
Review: Bought it 2 years ago. Good with photos & slides, terrible with negatives. Tendency to freeze computer up for no apparent reason.Very frustrating. Incompatible with new PC that has Windows 2000, in spite of claims to the contrary:downloaded drivers from Umax's page but still can't get it to work.Online support didn't help either: suggested I buy their CD for $40 to fix the problem. Shopping for new scanner now, obviously not from Umax.

Summary: buy something else
Review: Bought it at a rummage sale for $15. Another $15 for the CD from Umax w/ the Windows XP drivers. Once the CD arrived, I installed everything and had it up and running (with only minor hiccups) on my Win XP Pro system in about a half-hour. Not the best scanner, but quite acceptable for what I need now, and quite a deal at a total of $30.

Summary: Umax [is bad]for customer service
Review: Buy Umax only if you will never upgrade your software. If you plan on upgrading your operating system in the future Umax is not the way to go. Any time you need to upgrade drivers for say a new operating system or if you lost yours, unlike most other computer manufacturers, Umax will not let you download drivers for the upgrade. Instead they will mail you the drivers for just [money amount]. Real customer service.

Summary: Umax does not support
Review: I bought the $15.00 upgrade CD from Umax when I moved it to a XP system, but it did not work. I attempted to call them for service they want to charge another $25.00 for the phone call. They simply don't work with XP systems.

Summary: great scanner
Review: I bought this one new last year and it works just great with Word and Adobe. Then I changed operating systems to Windows ME and ME does not support it. Neither does XP. However, XP does not support Norton either so it is not the fault of UMAX that the scanner does not work.

Summary: Really Bad Scanner
Review: I have one of these scanners and thank goodness I didn't pay for it. I wouldn't give you a dime for a truck load of them. All of the software will not load and then the scanner locks up and looses it's self. When this happenes, you have to close all software, unplug the power cable and then tell it to find/refresh it's self. I have had to try to scan one page 6 times to get it to scan. I will be getting a HP asap and even sooner if possible. I hate this scanner...do not buy one!!

Summary: Easy to Use
Review: I purchased the scanner with the intent to use it with my pc. I used it in that capacity for about 9 months. I then purchased a Mac and thought that i would end-up having to buy a new scanner, not so. The Umax 2200 adjusted swimmingly and seems to be even easier to use with an Apple. It is really great at scanning negs and slides. One huge bonus is the software that you receive with it. Photoshop LE!!! Ya-Hoo for Umax!

Summary: buy something else
Review: This scanner is garbage. Why?

- Umax claims that it can scan negatives & slides. It does a horrible job, as it does not have the true resolution to scan media so small, and the color/contrast is awful when scanning these transparent media.

- Umax claims (now) that this scanner will work with Windows XP with new drivers. It does not. It may work once in a while, but frequently crashes/locks up the scanner software and becomes useless.

- Umax support is awful. They charge you for updated drivers, when they finally get around to updating them. Then you find out that the new drivers are still broken.

- Not only should you not buy this scanner, you should NEVER buy a Umax scanner. Period.
