Review: Any Mustek Scanner i have owned has been easy, and great fun to use. You get a lot for your money. The scanning quality is fantastic and unmatched. The apps that come with it make using this scanner so easy and child can use it. This scanner can be fun for the entire family because it's ease of use. Summary: Non functional
Review: Before purchasing this scanner, realize that it is totally non functional for any modern computer. Out of the box it only has drivers for Windows 95. It will not run on XP, Win2000 or what not. The website does have a section where drivers are allegedly available but THEY WILL NOT DOWNLOAD. It just says "page not found".
I purchased two of these as gifts and now they are just large paperweights (humiliating to me as the gift giver).
My advice..try to download the drivers BEFORE you purchase this.

Summary: Allright but problems
Review: I bought this as a gift for my fiance's X-mas Gift(he is a computer technician) and he somewhat liked it but hated the fact that it was hard to change the language from french to english and get it to set up. So far he has only used it once because it takes up so much space on his computer but overall it is ok

Summary: Great Scanner .....Great Price
Review: I have to admit, my uses for a flatbed scanner are limited, but what a marvelous piece this is! It operates flawlessly, the software is easy to use (it has to be because the manual is almost useless) and the quality of the scans is great. I compared the quality of pictures that I scanned with the Bearpaw and the quality of the same picture scanned through my H/P Photo Smart scanner and it's tough to tell them apart. The difference is not having the editing capabilities in the Bearpaw that are in the H/P. But that doesn't matter to me, since I didn't get this scanner for scanning pictures. I got this scanner mainly just because I wanted a flatbed scanner. It was about the only piece of hardware I didn't have connected to my computer. I use it mostly for scanning pictures that are too large to fit into the H/P and for scanning documents into Word or Excel and here's where the problem lies. The Text Bridge and OCR software that comes bundled with the scanner leaves a lot to be desired. The Text Bridge program is basically a trial version and isn't very accurate. It fails to recognize a lot of the text, so a lot of time is spent fixing the document once it's scanned. That promted me to install Pagis Pro which has a full version of Text Bridge on it (along with some other applications). That was to no avail as well. The scanner wouldn't scan a document at all..text, picture, or anything else. So I then downloaded a differnet driver for the scanner from Mustek which made the scanner work in the Text Bridge function, but the image functions disappeared. So after uninstalling EVERYTHING, I started over with reinstalling the scanner software and Text Bridge Pro (not the Pagis version with all the other fluff). Now everything works and I'm a happy camper!

For the money, this baby's a great buy. Scanning times are relatively fast, you can fax, copy, and e-mail right from the scanner using the scanner controls. One button operation most of the way. For less than a hudred bucks, this is a super deal.

Summary: Nice Concept - Negative Results
Review: I saw this product on one of the home shopping networks and was impressed with what I saw, but once I actually got it home, I was very disappointed. Although it's hook-up is suppose to be very easy, it turned out to be a nightmare. After you install the driver, and restart your computer, you have to plug the cord into the USB port, then plug the power cord into the scanner, then into the wall. It does not work with Adobe software, or any other applications, just the software they provide with it. I was never able to get this scanner going correctly, I suspect it does not run well with Windows 2000, even with a new downloaded driver off their site. Technical support at Mustek is next to none. My advice - do not buy it!

Summary: Truly the Yugo of scanners
Review: It looks pretty, little bear paws on the cover. The installation disk aborts immediately when you try to install it under WinXP. There are new drivers available on their website, but you have to call tech support on your own dime to figure out how to install them (i.e. the scanner must be off, download all 14 driver files at 1.2meg each, run the web.exe first, when it says to reboot don't, run the uplib.exe next, ignore the error messages about not being compatible, ok now reboot, now you can turn on your scanner) When none of the instructions work, they email you stuff to read and hang up on you. You read the stuff they sent and that doesn't help either, so you call them back, they repeat the process and email you different stuff. After 4 hours of trying to install it and 4 separate tech support calls, I give up.
