Summary: Lot of hassle for a Mac user
Review: Software bundle is minimal - no OCR or graphics. OSX TWAIN driver has to be d/l from Epson website. Took hours of frustration to figure out why machine was so finicky - USB ports didn't always recognise scanner. In my case, on new eMac, you can not boot up with scanner ON & plugged in, or USB port won't work. Must start computer 1st, THEN plug 1260 in. Took LOTS of plug swapping & power cycling to come up with "proper" sequence. Bizarre!

Review: The scanner is not XP friendly.

Summary: Has limitations
Review: The scanning software is not intuitive to use, and it took forever to load up and process the scan on my Windows 98 computer. Instead of simply scanning and then deciding what to do with the scan, you have to make the decision up front based on around 10 predefined (and pre-hooked in to other software) choices. You can't put the scanner on its side - it freezes up. There is no off switch, so the scanner (and the bulb) is always on whenever your computer is on. Scans of pictures from books are streaky and off color. Even if I flatten the pages tight to the scanner, the results are still too poor to be acceptable. I tried this scanner with my new Mac OS X computer, and after downloading the driver, it worked (though not with the buttons, there was a very scaled down separate application that you had to open each time.) But I'm going to discard this scanner and get another scanner instead, because this one can't do scans from books. I believe the solution is to look for a scanner with CCD technology instead of CIS.

Summary: Everything I need
Review: This is the third scanner I have used. The first was a roll-through Microtek that has long since died. The second one being a UMax Astra 610P that was exceptionally noisy and very flaky. I am pleased to report that this Epson is quiet. I can't hear it warming up and the scanning is about as loud as the Astra was warming up! All the utilities (OCR, scanning, retouching, etc.) have worked great for me. OCR has come a long way since my last scanner. Photos and text scan equally well. I haven't tried negatives yet and I doubt I will.

Review: This scanner has wonderful resolution, and the price is also wonderful. You will be very happy with it. I am a computer expert, I work with computers all day, so I can tell you what's a good product, and what's a bad one, and this is definatly a GOOD PRODUCT. Have fun shopping!
