Summary: Work like a charm
Review: The scanner works right away after I plug into my lab top running Windows XP. I especially like the landscape design which is the only one I can find. The only drawback I have found so far is the quality of the film scan is not good enough.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: While installing the PaperPort software included with the scanner the install program tried connecting to the Internet without my permission and asked that I register the software with ScanSoft (makers of PaperPort). When I tried skipping the registration process the software said it would remind me again in seven days. Seven days later it finally gave me the option to decline the registration process, but I did not appreciate being pressured into registering the software. Another troubling aspect of the registration process is that it subscribes you to spam lists and targeted internet ads unless you explicitly tell it not to do so.Another problem with this scanner is that the light that's used to scan 35mm slides and negatives will sometimes cast a rectangular shadow right smack in the middle of the page when scanning documents normally. This may be avoided by sticking several sheets of paper into the scanner, but it's very annoying. I originally intended to return the scanner to the store, but after going back and forth on the idea I've finally decided to keep it. It's an okay scanner, but flawed.
