Rating: Summary: A problem from the start Review: I will make this short and not very sweet. Avoid this machine for the following reasons:
Scan never worked
Cannot be fully accessed through network without HP proprietary wireless card.
HP claims that Belkin wifi ports are not compatable with this machine.
Online support is nil
Double feeds pages
Rating: Summary: Doesn't deserve 1 star Review: I've owned a HP 7110 for over six months. If I could give it a zero (or better yet a -10) I would do so. IT IS JUNK.
Daily problems include:
- Page feeder misses pages. Even with a 2 page document there is about a 60% chance that one won't come out. It's the same problem for printing and faxing, so imagine what a pain it is to fax stuff and then try to refax. (fax 10 pages, miss 4, fax 4, miss 2, fax 2, miss 1)
- Scanner failure. I'm not even sure what that is supposed to mean, but I get that message 1 to 8 times a day and the machine has to be shut down and restarted.
Recurring problems:
- Mysterious power losses. Every week or so it goes off and won't come back on. There is no obvious reason. Unplugging it and plugging it back in seems to be the way to fix it. I've never had equipment so tempermental.
- Ink low messages. Come on HP, it is obvious the cartidges are wired to start signalling low ink after about 30-50% use. It's ridiculous and a nuisance. When then low ink starts coming on, you have to press enter to keep going. Many times I have started a print job, left my desk expecting to come back to a finished document only to find it never started because a low ink message interrupted the job and I have to press enter to continue. There is no point to the low ink messages at all. You just have to print to depletion.
Other dissatisfaction:
- Noisy and shakes a lot.
- Never been able to get a decent document scan. I don't know if it is the machine or the software.
- Does not collate print jobs. That was a shock. It seems from the instruction manual that some models may have the function, mine doesn't. Sellers do a real injustice to their customers when they sell these without a big red sticker saying "DOES NOT COLLATE."
- Fax reports are unreliable. You can't depend on these to know whether a document or any part of it went through at all.
HP should recall these machines, refund our money or give us something solid and dependable. Until that happens, I won't buy another HP product.
Rating: Summary: People who send junk FAX love this machine Review: If you leave this machine unattended for a few days, you might come back to find that the memory is loaded with unwanted, junk FAXes that can ONLY be deleted by printing them. Hitting the stop button or even unplugging the machine will NOT erase the memory. In the day and age when junk FAXes are so prolific, one would think HP would have the foresight to offer a solution. (Keeping the machine connected to a computer and previewing every FAX is not a reasonable solution.)
Rating: Summary: Does what it says. Review: Just recently bought a competitive product, i.e. scanner copier and printer. I returned it the same day and bought the HP 7110. Happier than a clam. I've always had HP, but for the last few years, now I'm back. This is a great product. It's classic HP quality, (Weighs a ton) but has the quality in printing, scanning and copying. Even the Fax is simple to use. I like the stand alone fax and copy capabilities, makes life easier in the home office world. I use the machine for a combination of home office activity and personal use. I just scanned in a picture at the highest resolution and printed it at the same on HP photo paper. I'm hard pressed to find the difference in the scanned copy. If you have a home office or a small business buy this machine. You'll be happy you did. Don't waste your time with other equipment. CEO Carey Fiorina has done it again.
Rating: Summary: Mac Users Beware! Review: Okay. I've had this massive grey thing to the left of my desk for 7 months now. This is what I've learned.
1) It does make nice copies. It does make nice faxes. The scanner is pretty good.
2) It likes power. Do not plug this thing into a power strip. Plug it into it's own outlet. Why? I don't know. After 5 months, it suddenly didn't want to print in black. I ran through a few ink cartridges, talked to cust. service for a while, and finally they told me to plug it directly into the wall. Done. No problems.
3) It doesn't like or recognize or print from any Macintosh programs that operate pre-OSX. Oh, the HP website does give you some handy fun tips that you can use to get around this problem. But they're incredibly complicated and even by their own admission, the machine will lose it's ability to scan. Huh? However, I do have an old version of Photoshop and it reads the scans just fine. I just can't print from that same version of Photoshop.
4) On a lighter note, but important to some: it will make noises every now and then even when not in operation. If you leave it on overnight, it will grind its gears on occasion, and pretty loudly too, just to freak you out.
I've had this machine less than a year now. I'm morbidly curious now to see if it breaks down after the warranty has run out. Wish me luck.
Rating: Summary: Over rated Junk Review: Piece of junk. Returned it. Paper feeder mechanism does not work for any thing less than 4 papers-at-a-time. Carla Fiorina should be proud of this.
Rating: Summary: waste of money Review: Printheads went bad repeatedly. They replaced the printer for me. This was an entirely new system and it worked for a while and when it was time to replace the ink cartridges the printer would not recognize them. They were the correct ink cartridges. Now the printheads have gone bad again. It has been more than 90 days since I purchased the first one but only 1 month since the replacement arrived and they refuse to warranty it. The system has been down more than up. Find another brand.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy HP Review: This all in one in particular was a complete disaster. Form the get go I had problems with it. If the power fails, you have to reboot the machine, then it does an ink test when you reboot it. I could not find an option to turn this off. If you run out of color, you can't print black and white, not even if you set the print to grayscale. Don't try tech support, you can't understand them, they can't understand you, when the language barrier is finally cleared enough for you to start troubleshooting, they don't know what the problem is or it is your PC's fault. After 14 months, it finally died on me. Oddly enough when the warranty had just run out. A great excuse to purchase a new one. I believe HP is running a scam on these ink cartridges. They are the most expensive and last the least amount of time. I don't know where all of this ink goes, but it makes my wallet shrink far too often. I now have a Lexmark all in one and it seems like the ink has already lasted twice as long and I still have about 1/3 of my ink left!!! No more headaches and I don't need to keep a bunch of spare ink catridges.
Rating: Summary: Bye Bye HP! Review: This is my third hp multifunction. From day 1, I have not been able to copy or scan. Tech support said it was because the power was routed through a power strip, so we installed an outlet dedicated for it. Still did not work. I tried their next suggestion to reprogram the printer; still didn't work. I bought the multi-sided printing attachment soon after I purchased the printer; it never worked. Here I sit today at 5 AM with a (just shy of) 14-month-old printer that will not power on. As far as I am concerned, this has been a total waste of $300 + $100 for the attachment. Tech support's resolution? Send it back 1) at my cost; 2) be without a printer; 3) for an indefinite period of time; and then 4) pay for the repairs since it is newly out of warranty. Wait a second! That's not what I paid all that money for!
I have loved hp until this printer. Beyond the exceptional print quality, the one feature that has kept me coming back to hp is their OCR software and the ability to scan printed material and edit the text. Their G-series multifunctions were true workhorses with outstanding scan and print quality.
Not this time! If I have to buy a new printer 3 days before Christmas, I'm looking at a Cannon. Bye-bye hp. Anyone want to join me for a burial of an hp Officejet 7110? Just joking....
Rating: Summary: Do Not Buy! Review: This machine was issued to me by my company for use at home. I wish I could take it back, but unfortunately I have no choice.
first, this printer uses A LOT of ink. It also shakes wildly when it prints - almost I would invision a cartoon printer to print.
The fax machine has no quickscan feature and the autofeeder has to be babysat each and every fax.
The scanner is alright, but the software is not too user friendly.
Allaround, there are much better products out there. If your company doesn't decide for you, stay away from this one!
