Summary: Installation Nightmare
Review: Short Version:
This looks like a really nice piece of hardware ruined by poor software and installation procedures. I say "looks like" because, after three hours, I gave up on trying to get it set up and returned it. If you get lucky on the initial install, congratulations; otherwise, don't fight it, just return the scanner.

Long Version:
I am not a computer novice, which worked against me in this case. Rather than install the drivers from the provided CD, I immediately went to the Visioneer website and got the latest drivers. I installed them and hooked up the scanner. None of the buttons on the scanner or in the included software worked although I was able to scan from another image handling program I have. I tried uninstalling and then installing from the CD. This failed miserably (error messages on the install and no longer able to scan from anywhere) so I checked out their online support. I found a "clean uninstall" utility (shouldn't the standard uninstall be clean, I wondered) which I tried out but still couldn't re-install. I finally found a manual procedure for the "clean (not) uninstall" which I followed (open registry, wreak various forms of mayhem, cross fingers, reinstall) with no better result. Finally, I decided this was not worth the pain. There are plenty of good scanners out there with software that actually installs. Maybe next time they will spend more than 5 minutes on their installer.
