Summary: This Scanner is Junk
Review: I am on my second Onetouch 8650. I had to ship the first one back because no matter how careful I was with positioning and making sure that the proper paper was used, the ADF would jam up about every other page. I was then shipped a new one. It doesn't jam quite as often as the first, but the ADF is essentially useless unless you are just using copy paper. If you use any standard weight correspondence paper, it will jam the ADF. If I scan without using the ADF, there are all sorts of weird marks that show up on the scan that then need to be erased. This also occurred on the first machine which I shipped back. I used to use the Visioneer Strobe Pro, but that scanner won't work with Windows XP.

Summary: Good scanner, but watch out for feeder jams
Review: I really have no complaints about this scanner. It if very fast, the quality of scans is equal to or better than the quality of the original, but watch out for the feeder. If the paper setting is wrong, it can jam easily. But that is not really a problem unless the paper is purposely shoved in en-masse or the paper is not of specified stock for flawless feeding.

My recommendation: buy it!

Summary: Install headache and OCR problems
Review: The quality of the scanned product is very good once you have the scanner correctly installed. Beware though if you already have a different Visioneer scanner and a number of other peripherals as installation becomes a nightmare. We had to install, re-install the product 3 times. The support could be better also. The installation guide that comes with the scanner doesn't give much information when you are having difficulty with the auto document feeder and file conversions. If you want your OCR documents to reflect your original document you will also need to upgrade to Paperport Deluxe (at additional cost to you), otherwise your documents have additional characters added and the editing process becomes far too lengthy. Basically this is a good scanner, but you need to be familiar with scanner capabilities or it can be a real headache.

Summary: I got exactly what I wanted.
Review: This is a great scanner for the small office with not-too-heavy scanning needs. As a small law office, we scan about 3-5 documents a day, with page length varying from about 2 to 30 pages per document. We use Adobe almost exclusively, since we convert most of our documents into .PDF format. Thus, little in the way of OCR. (We have another scanner/printer/fax on which we use Pagis software for our limited OCR work.) At 300 dpi the document feeder will do about 4 pages per minute. The resolution is more than we need. For setup, tech support was more than adequate and quite friendly. Having had the scanner for about eight months now, I can say that it has been (knock on wood) dependable for the most part. Some software issues required a bit of expert help, but were overcome.

Review: Works just fine. Scans are great, document feeder rarely jams, PaperPort software is terrific. Nothing as good in its price range.
