Summary: Canon N122OU Scanner Gets High Marks!
Review: I have to admit that I was skeptical about buying a small, USB scanner of any type. I have always had SCSI-driven scanners in the past. I was amazed at this Canon scanner. The speed is more than adequate for average person. In fact, I had an old, very large, legal-sized SCSI flatbed by a well-established manufacturer that actually scanned slower than this compact unit. The quality of the scans is impressive and scanning text takes only a few seconds. Setting up the scanner was painless. In less than 10 minutes after opening the box the scanner was up and running and I scanned a photo that looked as good as the original! The package of software is also impressive: Adobe Photoshop LE and OmniPage Pro Version 9 are included (along with a variety other photo-related software). I have to admit that I am impressed and would highly recommend this scanner. It is a great value for the price.

Summary: WOW! Very easy to use.
Review: I just got it (from Amazon... at a very good price, BTW), and I REALLY like it. I had a scanner from another manufacturer that just wasn't doing it (it was very buggy... the software wasn't communicating with the hardware, and it was noisy, slow, and complicated besides). So I researched what was out there and ordered the CanoScan, and I couldn't be happier. The size is incredible! Less than half the bulk of my old one. And after a very easy software load-up, I put a picture on the glass and pushed the single button on the unit. A very intuitive menu of icons popped up on the screen, and I clicked an icon that said "Save". The scanner ran (quickly and quietly) and that was IT! There was the picture in the file with no further tweeking needed. (I did end up tweeking the settings - very easy to figure out - so it would save as a JPG, and I specified another file for the pictures to go to). Haven't tried the OCR yet, but if it's as simple as scanning pictures, I'll be a very happy buyer indeed. So far, I'd say this is the best you can do in easy, reasonable-cost, ultra-SMALL scanners.

Summary: I can't believe it
Review: I just got this scanner a few hours ago and have scanned several images since I got it out of the box. I just had to stop scanning and write a review.First of all, I was surprised when I saw the box, the box which the Canon N1220U arrived in is smaller then the Canon scanner I replaced. The only reason I replaced the other Canon scanner is because I purchased a new computer and the older scanner wouldn't connect to my new computer. This scanner is small, hardly no larger than the scanning area (8.5" x 11.7"). It is also thin (about an inch and a quarter high) and looks quite nice next to the new G4 PowerMac. It really makes the older scanner look like a dinosaur and the older scanner is just a little more than a year old. Secondly, this scanner was so easy to set up, it virtually did it itself. All I had to do was to plug in the USB cable while the computer was on, there is no power cord to plug in, the power is actually supplied by the USB cable. Then I had to insert the CD which contained the set up software and click a few buttons, that was it. I was off and scanning in no time, maybe ten minutes tops. The first scan took a little extra time because the scanner had to calibrate itself, but it only does this once and you can re-calibrate the scanner anytime you want to. The scanner is quite fast, faster than the one I replaced. The software supplied to operate the scanner is fairly easy to use and understand. The scans turn out great, better than the original image it seems. I did have to adjust the way I place the image on the flatbed, the image should be placed upside down not rightside up. My first scan came out upside down. To sum up, the scanner looks great, doesn't take up much space on the desk, doesn't add to my power cord clutter behind my desk, it is pretty fast, easy to set up and use, and comes with useful third party software: PhotoShop 5.0 LE ( I use this program often), ArcSoft Photo Studio, ArcSoft PhotoBase, and ScanSoft Omni Page. I would recommend this scanner, even to my best friends.

Review: I just purchased this scanner and it exceeds my expectaions. Comes with a great software bundle, compact and dependable. I saw this scanner on sale at Circuit City for 199.99 and i was surprised to see it here for 156. If you need a scanner hurry up and get this one before it is sold out.

Summary: Excellent Scanner for under ...
Review: I love this scanner. I went from a SCSI that was 3ft long, 8 inches deep, and 2 feet wide, to this laptop sized USB scanner and haven't looked back. It opened up so much space on my desk, I added a TV! My only two issues (both minor)are with the scanning DPI and the page size supported. The DPI is locked at multiples of 75, which I found interesting when trying to do scans of halftones. The only other issue is that it is limited to 8 1/2 x 11 inch originals. I would have loved to seen it able to take legal size.
It would be 5 star if these items we added. The exposure is perfect from edge to edge, software works great. It took me longer to get it out of the packaging than to set up. A friend need to scan some photos and I sat him down (he's computer illiterate) and within minutes he was scanning like a pro.

Summary: trouble installing the scanner driver
Review: I run windows ME (DELL Dimension 4100). I have spent 10 hrs trying to install this scanner. I have spoken to Canon respresentatives as well. I am not sure if its my USB port. But, the port works fine with a printer or a cable modem. May be it requires more current. I am almost giving up. May be I'll try getting a powered USB hub and see if it will work. Actually, I like the scanner. It looks cool and would love to see it work. Who knows, may be one of you might help me out. Note: I have tried 3 different scanners from 2 different manufacturers. None of them install under ME.

Summary: Easy to use, easy to store
Review: I thoroughly researched scanners before I selected the CanoScan N122OU. Several brands and models included the high resolution output which I need for my photography hobby work, but the deciding factors for this model for me were: 1) It is very thin and lightweight -- PLUS it stores vertically on my desk.
(My older scanner was heavy, big, and took up LOTS of room.)
2) I had confidence in the Canon brand - and still do. Having made the choice, I have had no regrets. It has been easy to set up and use (I can even use it while it is in its vertical position - quite a handy feature that I didn't realize it offered when I was making my selection.) I am pleased and would recommend this to anyone needing a high quality, easy-to-use and easy-to-store scanner.

Summary: This scanner rocks!!
Review: I'm not graphics artist, just a systems engineer who appreicates things that work, don't require much time, and are simple. This scanner fits the bill. The one cable hookup is awesome, though make sure you have a powered hub if you have more than two USB devices. I recently took this on a trip, and it fit in my laptop bag easily. You can simply toss a photo on the glass and scan, and it'll automatically adjust and trim it for you...this is by far the best scanner I've ever owned (out of six or so). Also, it comes with some decent software... I've used this on Win98 and Windows 2000, and recently upgraded my Win98 box to WinME and it worked flawlessly.

Summary: Great, easy to use and SO compact!
Review: I've used several scanners, at work and at home, and this is by far the easiest and best of them, including our old SCSI "professional" model Umax. The primary reason we bought this scanner was its ability to be used with both PCs and Macs - we have both in our house and we really don't need two scanners. My son (who is a professional scanner-user and loves this one) packs it up with his IBook and carries it all over the place - anywhere the laptop can go, it goes. And setting it up on my desk again is a piece of cake. The scan quality is excellent as well. ... Buy it!

Summary: Great scanner for average user!
Review: If you can get past the installation problems that may crop up, this is one great scanner for the average person. It's easy to use and the resolution is excellent for what I intend to use it for. The biggest pluses are the small size and the absence of a separate power cord. The bundled software is easy to use and fairly intuitive. For most photos and documents, the resolution is excellent. On the negative side, I did have some problems during installation. The initial surge draws so much power from my standalone USB port, that it shut it down. I got around that by plugging the scanner in after booting up the port rather than leave the scanner plugged in. The installation documentation is also a bit sketchy and assumes that everything goes smoothly. If it doesn't, you're out of luck and left to trial and error. The website isn't much more help either.
